As part of the City of Edmonton's Newcomer Internship Program, we are seeking a highly motivated internationally trained Accountant to work as an intern for a period of 11 months.  The objective of this program is to provide foreign trained professionals with meaningful Canadian work experience related to their qualifications, skills and experience.

9 g; f/ g8 L, f5 N7 C- ^, r0 jReporting to the Manager of Corporate Accountants Payable and Receivable, you will perform professional/senior technical accounting work involving control over processing and maintenance of complex and diverse accounts receivable and billing financial systems and records.  This may include:
: Z& m+ v0 k, e& Q8 N•        Assisting in reviewing the overall accounting system and inter-related financial processes within a diversified accounting environment& \: Z) Z0 h* Y5 t: W0 t' `
•        Developing performance reports, including monthly billing and collection activity, customer profile, and specialized reports including year end financial statements$ z2 P! X2 V, Z
•        Providing technical and professional advice and assistance to business are officials in matters of financial policies and procedures under the shared services delivery module
& G2 b1 n/ T# E, u/ x9 s* O9 b4 w•        Performing complex trend analysis, transactional analysis and reconciliation's
6 P$ O4 U8 A3 J* z2 D( D•        Applying a high level of analysis in providing value added AP/AR services and recommendations to customers

•        University degree obtained outside of Canada (bachelor or applied) in an accounting-related discipline: V5 }/ k- I/ m. B! A
•        Working towards a Canadian accounting designation (CGA, CMA, CA) would be considered an asset
- d* Y/ g# S. e% h& y9 U8 R# f7 O•        Three (3) years of progressively responsible international accounting experience5 B( o, i5 H! n- X5 b
•        A basic working knowledge of Corporate Financial Systems
( J  w8 c8 F/ q  h# n•        Demonstrated competency in the use of Microsoft Office applications and spreadsheets
* W- E/ k9 \5 A1 c•        Demonstrated ability to deal courteously with the public and make decisions within established policies
) K+ c2 n) e  C. h/ p) R) |•        A basic knowledge of accounting, administrative procedures and regulations including GAAP and GST0 h( Q, u! F1 l. @; u& e
•        Excellent verbal and written communication skills$ S0 v9 D$ b/ a
Hours of Work:  33.75 hours per week, Monday - Friday. , j) B% A: m; R8 ]5 A) X) X
Hours of work may be subject to the terms and conditions of a variable hours of work program.! q& G, y2 T7 E2 G9 B# q, w" L  Z
Salary:  $27.00 hourly
