As part of the City of Edmonton's Newcomer Internship Program, we are seeking a highly motivated internationally trained Accountant to work as an intern for a period of 11 months. The objective of this program is to provide foreign trained professionals with meaningful Canadian work experience related to their qualifications, skills and experience. 0 d: V+ Y1 x& X* g3 ]. K8 M

Reporting to the Manager of Corporate Accountants Payable and Receivable, you will perform professional/senior technical accounting work involving control over processing and maintenance of complex and diverse accounts receivable and billing financial systems and records. This may include:' z) R/ k0 b. a, A: K- t' k2 J1 i* n
• Assisting in reviewing the overall accounting system and inter-related financial processes within a diversified accounting environment
3 O0 r0 ?& k! @. e. ]9 K3 b5 d0 N9 h• Developing performance reports, including monthly billing and collection activity, customer profile, and specialized reports including year end financial statements
6 B% b2 p0 F; _- S# _• Providing technical and professional advice and assistance to business are officials in matters of financial policies and procedures under the shared services delivery module! d/ B: {/ Y' |7 [1 N+ C
• Performing complex trend analysis, transactional analysis and reconciliation's" `1 v1 N' s, v0 K
• Applying a high level of analysis in providing value added AP/AR services and recommendations to customers + ^9 H' n4 [: ?3 [3 A: v! F7 _
Job Requirements:
6 P: i% H% O- H4 P4 i• University degree obtained outside of Canada (bachelor or applied) in an accounting-related discipline
3 U) f7 S S* U! x$ M# E• Working towards a Canadian accounting designation (CGA, CMA, CA) would be considered an asset1 z4 y+ B& \, z$ r' S- j; t
• Three (3) years of progressively responsible international accounting experience4 Z, U) f9 _+ A
• A basic working knowledge of Corporate Financial Systems
2 Q# f; l' q. y5 q, h• Demonstrated competency in the use of Microsoft Office applications and spreadsheets7 j' L1 u$ I% Y9 s! y6 g+ f
• Demonstrated ability to deal courteously with the public and make decisions within established policies
, y1 N# d- v! h; x4 [• A basic knowledge of accounting, administrative procedures and regulations including GAAP and GST5 K2 |; u! w2 @# S5 R
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills3 p4 t* }1 v4 i* l9 x
Hours of Work: 33.75 hours per week, Monday - Friday.
