1 ^3 c) p8 W; {' w5 ?As part of the City of Edmonton's Newcomer Internship Program, we are seeking a highly motivated internationally trained Accountant to work as an intern for a period of 11 months.  The objective of this program is to provide foreign trained professionals with meaningful Canadian work experience related to their qualifications, skills and experience. * ^& ?+ y2 Q0 K4 j

M& n, z- u5 X& OReporting to the Manager of Corporate Accountants Payable and Receivable, you will perform professional/senior technical accounting work involving control over processing and maintenance of complex and diverse accounts receivable and billing financial systems and records.  This may include:
4 q  j# }; C+ O# F+ |3 U•        Assisting in reviewing the overall accounting system and inter-related financial processes within a diversified accounting environment
/ @1 R8 x- r- T•        Developing performance reports, including monthly billing and collection activity, customer profile, and specialized reports including year end financial statements
$ a- }, v5 e, H2 X0 @* t) M/ u8 t•        Providing technical and professional advice and assistance to business are officials in matters of financial policies and procedures under the shared services delivery module
6 T8 ~% p/ q1 Q$ A7 \9 O& D% R! l•        Performing complex trend analysis, transactional analysis and reconciliation's
5 u# i( ?4 _4 Z$ v( Q$ R' k# v/ i4 _•        Applying a high level of analysis in providing value added AP/AR services and recommendations to customers * |- j' O7 I1 |/ F0 i9 Z- t0 L+ `
Job Requirements:  
5 a0 A2 ^) y# o3 G0 k•        University degree obtained outside of Canada (bachelor or applied) in an accounting-related discipline/ Y9 B) C# Q$ J
•        Working towards a Canadian accounting designation (CGA, CMA, CA) would be considered an asset. D: o0 s' M, Q0 G7 u4 H. Q
•        Three (3) years of progressively responsible international accounting experience
: A6 A% R  X2 N, ^; s•        A basic working knowledge of Corporate Financial Systems
9 M7 U8 O0 \% i2 G6 ^•        Demonstrated competency in the use of Microsoft Office applications and spreadsheets
! p% S: ]4 A2 W/ o( j•        Demonstrated ability to deal courteously with the public and make decisions within established policies* }; H$ {4 Q- h: `0 N/ k8 g
•        A basic knowledge of accounting, administrative procedures and regulations including GAAP and GST; Q, z/ f2 ^  w. g5 T  O
•        Excellent verbal and written communication skills- i( P4 [+ t2 ^# w
Hours of Work:  33.75 hours per week, Monday - Friday. 5 u0 U" q6 f% ]% x
Hours of work may be subject to the terms and conditions of a variable hours of work program./ A9 X- \3 a- M, c( r' w
Salary:  $27.00 hourly! J- O- b, r: O& b1 g" b+ P$ N
