This is a temporary position for approximately 11 months.  Applicants must be eligible to work in Canada at the time of their application.

; r7 {- t/ W* N/ L8 H7 t8 Q# ]As part of the City of Edmonton's Newcomer Internship Program, we are seeking a highly motivated internationally trained Accountant to work as an intern for a period of 11 months.  The objective of this program is to provide foreign trained professionals with meaningful Canadian work experience related to their qualifications, skills and experience. . E1 u. P% t( g

I8 S3 C2 h) \9 BReporting to the Manager of Corporate Accountants Payable and Receivable, you will perform professional/senior technical accounting work involving control over processing and maintenance of complex and diverse accounts receivable and billing financial systems and records.  This may include:) _4 j8 E9 I9 _" L
•        Assisting in reviewing the overall accounting system and inter-related financial processes within a diversified accounting environment8 f/ R, M! U4 ^* `# E
•        Developing performance reports, including monthly billing and collection activity, customer profile, and specialized reports including year end financial statements8 v  v# x+ A" P6 C5 c/ o, d: N' d
•        Providing technical and professional advice and assistance to business are officials in matters of financial policies and procedures under the shared services delivery module
: w" Y3 {! R0 W6 J8 h•        Performing complex trend analysis, transactional analysis and reconciliation's
) |0 w( l7 Z0 V" P) v$ U! I) ]( L•        Applying a high level of analysis in providing value added AP/AR services and recommendations to customers 6 m1 Y% ~. r2 G4 }% T) e( C
Job Requirements:  
) T. G" t1 q$ m: d+ n/ i& p•        University degree obtained outside of Canada (bachelor or applied) in an accounting-related discipline* B$ z& F" n9 V4 L  J
•        Working towards a Canadian accounting designation (CGA, CMA, CA) would be considered an asset
: U! [* Z# D6 [8 p7 b9 p; d•        Three (3) years of progressively responsible international accounting experience
! j3 V( X: e* g5 r+ {' r•        A basic working knowledge of Corporate Financial Systems
; Z& F7 s( ?' t. Y/ r•        Demonstrated competency in the use of Microsoft Office applications and spreadsheets  D* O& h+ _0 R( L& r- I; G6 u; f
•        Demonstrated ability to deal courteously with the public and make decisions within established policies: q/ a4 b% g) |! j
•        A basic knowledge of accounting, administrative procedures and regulations including GAAP and GST
* F: H9 A  @( H+ L0 a•        Excellent verbal and written communication skills
4 m; n3 ?" X. lHours of Work:  33.75 hours per week, Monday - Friday.
& u  D* o6 ~+ ?6 _4 t1 w3 S% yHours of work may be subject to the terms and conditions of a variable hours of work program.
