As part of the City of Edmonton's Newcomer Internship Program, we are seeking a highly motivated internationally trained Accountant to work as an intern for a period of 11 months. The objective of this program is to provide foreign trained professionals with meaningful Canadian work experience related to their qualifications, skills and experience. $ I; i+ Y8 u* J: h% k4 ~2 \0 _+ t

Reporting to the Manager of Corporate Accountants Payable and Receivable, you will perform professional/senior technical accounting work involving control over processing and maintenance of complex and diverse accounts receivable and billing financial systems and records. This may include:
$ f' U+ I9 t% L& |: |1 Z2 o• Assisting in reviewing the overall accounting system and inter-related financial processes within a diversified accounting environment) S' v& O6 B5 M" g9 u0 ^
• Developing performance reports, including monthly billing and collection activity, customer profile, and specialized reports including year end financial statements' _! i+ x. x. I- d- d
• Providing technical and professional advice and assistance to business are officials in matters of financial policies and procedures under the shared services delivery module

• Applying a high level of analysis in providing value added AP/AR services and recommendations to customers - W8 `+ P7 J) \. Y6 m
Job Requirements: 5 {( [! `, r" B. l, x9 x
• University degree obtained outside of Canada (bachelor or applied) in an accounting-related discipline" O9 z4 y+ o9 a# \; Y. \
• Working towards a Canadian accounting designation (CGA, CMA, CA) would be considered an asset1 v# v3 n& i/ M; o
• Three (3) years of progressively responsible international accounting experience
% y1 U' V# E1 @+ u8 w5 q• A basic working knowledge of Corporate Financial Systems' z! u4 x9 J2 s0 @8 Y( n6 U# e/ P
• Demonstrated competency in the use of Microsoft Office applications and spreadsheets% ^$ A2 X4 G% V+ `6 d+ d1 d
• Demonstrated ability to deal courteously with the public and make decisions within established policies
) N. B- J8 q4 S• A basic knowledge of accounting, administrative procedures and regulations including GAAP and GST
