  z, t9 ^: `7 r5 ]' cThe Advanced Materials business unit seeks a Safety Assistant to assist the business unit over the summer months.

& j" q5 S( G/ |: _5 u6 I+ m- Y" lResponsibilities include:

1. Chemical list and Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS’s)
• help complete up-to-date chemical lists for all laboratories within the department
  t4 P' b& |  H6 B; w6 p• collect and obtain MSDS’s for all chemicals
• make sure all chemicals are properly labelled and stored
• proper disposal of all unwanted chemicals
• finalize chemical lists and then duplicate and label all MSDS’s for distribution to OH&S for the MSDS on line system.

2. Standard Operation Procedures (SOP’s) and Hazard Assessments (HA’s)
* F' V3 s" c. \• help update the department SOP’s and HA’s. This will include verification of existing SOP’s and HA’s and tracking any that are needed.

3. Tracking System
• help develop a tracking system for adding or removal of chemicals as well as continual updating and verification of SOP’s and HA’s

2 l1 q' v0 H, o6 ~/ ZCandidates should be inquisitive, thorough, and willing to learn. Some education and/or experience in safety is preferred. Strong communication and interpersonal skills and the ability to work independently as well as in a team environment are required.

This is a two-month summer position, preferably commencing the middle of June, which will pay an hourly wage commensurate with education and experience. Final candidates will be asked to undergo a security screening.
