The Advanced Materials business unit seeks a Safety Assistant to assist the business unit over the summer months. ; [; g6 k" C9 V' w1 Y

Responsibilities include:

1. Chemical list and Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS’s)
4 a9 M! j& t) B& ^• help complete up-to-date chemical lists for all laboratories within the department
3 o+ J ]: X: }- s. B, O" X• collect and obtain MSDS’s for all chemicals0 K! r t+ J2 g5 V c5 ^/ j! h
• make sure all chemicals are properly labelled and stored* J( F" E; I3 W
• proper disposal of all unwanted chemicals4 X$ x: G1 ?6 }: \% P- |
• finalize chemical lists and then duplicate and label all MSDS’s for distribution to OH&S for the MSDS on line system.

2. Standard Operation Procedures (SOP’s) and Hazard Assessments (HA’s)
1 o, V; a- U! h6 C0 E5 L n) l• help update the department SOP’s and HA’s. This will include verification of existing SOP’s and HA’s and tracking any that are needed.

• help develop a tracking system for adding or removal of chemicals as well as continual updating and verification of SOP’s and HA’s + G9 ?) t9 G& f; e

Candidates should be inquisitive, thorough, and willing to learn. Some education and/or experience in safety is preferred. Strong communication and interpersonal skills and the ability to work independently as well as in a team environment are required. : T8 p9 _: Z' Z' a0 P: _, \7 D
( \3 m3 R1 ~- l0 S. VThis is a two-month summer position, preferably commencing the middle of June, which will pay an hourly wage commensurate with education and experience. Final candidates will be asked to undergo a security screening.2 l0 S7 \- g) g
