The Advanced Materials business unit seeks a Safety Assistant to assist the business unit over the summer months.

1. Chemical list and Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS’s)
. Y- R- {9 S( p• help complete up-to-date chemical lists for all laboratories within the department! a( [; c- J N+ U$ v" H% |
• collect and obtain MSDS’s for all chemicals
8 l) V7 _8 M) x9 T$ q& i5 S, Z• make sure all chemicals are properly labelled and stored
/ H/ E" V( D: F( T1 u, R• proper disposal of all unwanted chemicals9 q# {9 F0 J7 a# t! R$ V
• finalize chemical lists and then duplicate and label all MSDS’s for distribution to OH&S for the MSDS on line system.# t0 Z2 N' I- k4 M* G( }2 n5 ]

2. Standard Operation Procedures (SOP’s) and Hazard Assessments (HA’s)! H2 T/ ?/ g+ x M: o! `
• help update the department SOP’s and HA’s. This will include verification of existing SOP’s and HA’s and tracking any that are needed.6 b% l7 H; g# g6 `2 k0 W; a8 w! o

3. Tracking System
/ L' w; |: Q N K6 c g• help develop a tracking system for adding or removal of chemicals as well as continual updating and verification of SOP’s and HA’s

: e! I7 |; c4 h. y( y: e( U- u% T9 PCandidates should be inquisitive, thorough, and willing to learn. Some education and/or experience in safety is preferred. Strong communication and interpersonal skills and the ability to work independently as well as in a team environment are required. ! }/ P7 F( M% u9 q' `. C

This is a two-month summer position, preferably commencing the middle of June, which will pay an hourly wage commensurate with education and experience. Final candidates will be asked to undergo a security screening.
