The Advanced Materials business unit seeks a Safety Assistant to assist the business unit over the summer months.

Responsibilities include:
3 s* L; U7 Z& b, k! a; V
1. Chemical list and Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS’s)
: X: D0 k* X* a1 k) Y• help complete up-to-date chemical lists for all laboratories within the department
• collect and obtain MSDS’s for all chemicals
& o& G3 `4 A- P0 [6 ^• make sure all chemicals are properly labelled and stored
• proper disposal of all unwanted chemicals
' E  @: Q4 i" C8 n• finalize chemical lists and then duplicate and label all MSDS’s for distribution to OH&S for the MSDS on line system.

2. Standard Operation Procedures (SOP’s) and Hazard Assessments (HA’s)
• help update the department SOP’s and HA’s. This will include verification of existing SOP’s and HA’s and tracking any that are needed.

: ]7 |: O+ m8 ~• help develop a tracking system for adding or removal of chemicals as well as continual updating and verification of SOP’s and HA’s

" I) I% `4 ]3 g6 w7 cCandidates should be inquisitive, thorough, and willing to learn. Some education and/or experience in safety is preferred. Strong communication and interpersonal skills and the ability to work independently as well as in a team environment are required.

- P2 ~* F/ ?3 P, o2 |This is a two-month summer position, preferably commencing the middle of June, which will pay an hourly wage commensurate with education and experience. Final candidates will be asked to undergo a security screening.
