The Advanced Materials business unit seeks a Safety Assistant to assist the business unit over the summer months.

% w- P) [+ I- u: q5 q' r! m# R1. Chemical list and Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS’s)( V/ W3 Y& |, d5 r; z
• help complete up-to-date chemical lists for all laboratories within the department* v% \0 ~( t' N; f, A# W
• collect and obtain MSDS’s for all chemicals
4 ?" b) h+ @0 @$ _7 s+ \• make sure all chemicals are properly labelled and stored6 `# ~5 Q0 g0 V
• proper disposal of all unwanted chemicals) }; x. W7 X& d' c# G
• finalize chemical lists and then duplicate and label all MSDS’s for distribution to OH&S for the MSDS on line system.

/ g/ U, s' r8 j9 [2. Standard Operation Procedures (SOP’s) and Hazard Assessments (HA’s). a, x: Q7 J7 E8 w, e: ]
• help update the department SOP’s and HA’s. This will include verification of existing SOP’s and HA’s and tracking any that are needed.

3. Tracking System
' q/ h) Q3 T2 k/ ?: P4 I0 t• help develop a tracking system for adding or removal of chemicals as well as continual updating and verification of SOP’s and HA’s

4 D M; @9 D( ^; t7 \4 K6 yCandidates should be inquisitive, thorough, and willing to learn. Some education and/or experience in safety is preferred. Strong communication and interpersonal skills and the ability to work independently as well as in a team environment are required.

This is a two-month summer position, preferably commencing the middle of June, which will pay an hourly wage commensurate with education and experience. Final candidates will be asked to undergo a security screening.; ~7 A: @6 ~. {7 q! M
