& M+ |3 W( B0 T% \# rbring 12 (per intake) at-risk youth together into a unique 20 week group-based
: @ Y0 i7 s& R# K3 y; X: _: Nemployability skills program entitled “The VERTO Project”; 16 weeks of day( G% o# M. u/ b- _" _3 \
program and 4 weeks of employment exposure. YOUCAN is an acronym that
& z4 p8 W7 r( N. m: E0 cstands for Youth Organizing to Understand Conflict and Advocate Non-Violence.
& n" o/ I+ n2 S/ X9 R: d2 |YOUCAN has served youth in the Edmonton area for almost six years and our- [; M6 s1 x: n1 H& G! \ S
mission is to equip youth to engage and inspire others to peacefully resolve
. e/ A& X2 m1 jconflicts and develop healthy relationships in their communities. The goal of the4 y: B% f4 G! q; e% m0 j; u
VERTO Program is to assist participants in obtaining and maintaining the skills' ^/ U' J3 ], Q D
necessary to bring success into their lives. The program is designed to serve, e6 Y6 L2 f# h
youth who have been involved in the justice system. The program will expose
/ ]2 B t1 [3 x! W8 J- _9 H5 g; Dparticipants to a wide range of components focusing on: employment
; p9 [# {0 _0 A' y$ hdevelopment, personal wellness, technology learning, conflict resolution and5 S- \! D4 F; J& d3 f) S
exposure courses. Additionally, we will incorporate topics around health and, ?, Z9 Q# [) a- _8 o* }! H5 [
wellness, volunteerism and leadership courses. The youth will be provided with a
; U, v; o7 \* |; v, S9 _! }8 `6-month employment follow-up once the program is completed.6 q/ H( `% o3 ]( m z; S t+ ^
The project will run from 9:30-4:00 p.m., Monday through Friday at the Central
. ^3 }# P# O0 D+ ]# z# PYOUCAN office, located at 8718-112 Avenue in Edmonton, Alberta.' A G& m2 N3 _. f# u
The following position is a one-year contract with the possibility of

• Responsible for building relationships with employers within the" v. J/ y6 D( l1 {2 L
community to partner with YOUCAN to ensure there are employers that are
( Z8 E h2 o5 }) h H2 Zwilling to expose youth to the current employment opportunities
$ a s$ ~: F* i5 H P- z# s• Ensure the youth action plans are reflecting the employment goals as4 R) a6 A( b- N* l% K5 o
being realistic to each youth participant
9 t* z u0 O* y4 s• Work with the youth to find the appropriate training needed to equip the- Z# t8 v6 r7 m f1 D1 {; o
youth with the necessary skills needed to find the employment suitable to f: u S/ o3 N9 j$ C5 C
each participant6 s A; K( V* S l
• Assist youth with employment development including the development of1 a- c# B; n) |$ K
cover letters and resumes etc.
2 }1 e" ^1 ]/ v9 |1 ]5 w: I• Coordinate the employment exposure component and on site work# ^# s" Q% j0 f) q: P
experience of the project, and monitor the progress of each youth at the
% N$ H# p$ P3 f4 X, w( oplacements4 _1 l+ `6 E6 J: a" s3 Q0 w! W
• Conduct the 6 month follow up process for each of the youth, evaluating& h) T/ L x" m' B0 F
the process, and supporting the youth where needed7 _( D2 {8 T; k2 Z7 x2 X
• Work closely with staff of the Verto Project to ensure the holistic approach
% {" }! Y* a% S9 mis being fulfilled for each youth
5 L/ t. r) j1 w+ ?: p• Administrative tasks, such as phone, fax, filing, copying, etc. that are8 i' R) w" H ~4 m
related to YOUCAN’s Verto Project) q& M# m. i. ]: ^2 E
• Other tasks as they arise within the position

 Post-secondary education or 3 years related experience accepted: q# I v- c3 ^2 p6 L6 [
 A minimum of three years relevant experience is required.+ e [* X; R' a1 R& |0 R' M6 O* E
 Enthusiastic and energetic innovator who is process-oriented and committed

 Experience working with youth at risk, and able to assess the needs of youth
