The YOUCAN VERTO Project is a Government of Canada funded project that will) I- a1 U3 i" {
bring 12 (per intake) at-risk youth together into a unique 20 week group-based
/ P, X5 P7 h7 Z0 w5 w2 nemployability skills program entitled “The VERTO Project”; 16 weeks of day6 ^" ?& h7 y1 g- P! |
program and 4 weeks of employment exposure. YOUCAN is an acronym that4 _& W$ a& W1 a& j Q
stands for Youth Organizing to Understand Conflict and Advocate Non-Violence.
& Q2 Z7 y0 \$ @. w4 u& R$ v5 DYOUCAN has served youth in the Edmonton area for almost six years and our/ L2 P& r2 J- s i$ }
mission is to equip youth to engage and inspire others to peacefully resolve
/ v1 n m) h. k5 Y5 j! N' E4 ?conflicts and develop healthy relationships in their communities. The goal of the
3 g( l3 j9 f |8 h$ a: oVERTO Program is to assist participants in obtaining and maintaining the skills
0 K! u$ R$ U# z4 l+ v) y- Wnecessary to bring success into their lives. The program is designed to serve
4 b4 ?9 `( ]$ Z! I* X; Tyouth who have been involved in the justice system. The program will expose
% d7 K, n: ]; B' T7 a, Eparticipants to a wide range of components focusing on: employment c' B/ I2 q9 ] }9 n5 U M
development, personal wellness, technology learning, conflict resolution and
! K3 w1 ], M' e* ^5 x/ N. W9 rexposure courses. Additionally, we will incorporate topics around health and
6 F# b. S) R6 O: H/ Bwellness, volunteerism and leadership courses. The youth will be provided with a* o+ Q9 F8 B( Q# L' m7 @
6-month employment follow-up once the program is completed.7 M2 e% U/ z* V8 ]. b; o, K
The project will run from 9:30-4:00 p.m., Monday through Friday at the Central
- l' m! A. |7 F! C+ P3 OYOUCAN office, located at 8718-112 Avenue in Edmonton, Alberta.
% o; V* k, \# } `; cThe following position is a one-year contract with the possibility of: H3 V, P5 j& o! `9 @4 {; A0 M- W

! R0 i& @# D1 d6 x& DEmployment Developer: 1 Full-Time Position (40hrs/week)8 t* l) t# J; s8 v9 ` c4 h( y
• Responsible for building relationships with employers within the
( r- O, \ w5 k1 V; }community to partner with YOUCAN to ensure there are employers that are
% a" T. N" [( v0 F% [" \willing to expose youth to the current employment opportunities+ R* m L% g, L, b4 \ ~7 B6 u
• Ensure the youth action plans are reflecting the employment goals as' O( ? I' ~' k2 a
being realistic to each youth participant
5 i( G0 t8 k: ^; F' t. }• Work with the youth to find the appropriate training needed to equip the
+ S- }5 c2 }7 J5 J7 E3 Ayouth with the necessary skills needed to find the employment suitable to
0 J/ E4 { x* ]each participant
- q ] @) Q* o• Assist youth with employment development including the development of- c* A4 D6 ~$ \+ l9 o
cover letters and resumes etc.4 M; }. p5 U$ E) D2 v2 n
• Coordinate the employment exposure component and on site work
* ?( j; K) R2 u4 g. N: F8 V2 `experience of the project, and monitor the progress of each youth at the
3 f% s( g2 u& hplacements% f; l) @% D+ d5 D$ P
• Conduct the 6 month follow up process for each of the youth, evaluating
% v9 n: E. r/ \0 \0 [# c9 pthe process, and supporting the youth where needed3 n/ w) t0 f: U+ _* U. Z3 b; @ _
• Work closely with staff of the Verto Project to ensure the holistic approach" i [( H2 c7 e8 n/ i! F- j
is being fulfilled for each youth5 W1 h( D! R' L, [& F% m
• Administrative tasks, such as phone, fax, filing, copying, etc. that are P' a# v' }/ J" R6 k5 `
related to YOUCAN’s Verto Project' W/ E/ B$ x+ v+ Z1 r* j
• Other tasks as they arise within the position

8 l. }, `9 M7 O( D1 V Post-secondary education or 3 years related experience accepted
4 `+ Y5 x7 U: x A minimum of three years relevant experience is required.
! C) S1 h( o2 H8 m3 H6 G7 k Enthusiastic and energetic innovator who is process-oriented and committed

 Strong interpersonal and leadership skills.

 Experience working with youth at risk, and able to assess the needs of youth

1 {5 ?0 u8 [% m, j0 ] Skilled in software applications, computers and other office equipment

 Ability to motivate youth
