bring 12 (per intake) at-risk youth together into a unique 20 week group-based& b- |9 U* m2 @8 H& X+ {
employability skills program entitled “The VERTO Project”; 16 weeks of day6 T+ R# `$ O# h- Z: a" N
program and 4 weeks of employment exposure. YOUCAN is an acronym that
3 L, {* }5 x9 t/ W, ]stands for Youth Organizing to Understand Conflict and Advocate Non-Violence.$ L$ a, t' _4 R9 c" U8 B8 W
YOUCAN has served youth in the Edmonton area for almost six years and our0 p& Z# q" ~4 B
mission is to equip youth to engage and inspire others to peacefully resolve
! E. {8 O2 ]: X* u0 {; k1 Econflicts and develop healthy relationships in their communities. The goal of the' \9 o3 b/ ?1 ^1 |& t9 U( y
VERTO Program is to assist participants in obtaining and maintaining the skills* W" l6 |' r, a" l+ s
necessary to bring success into their lives. The program is designed to serve+ ]8 p" J% c9 c, L O
youth who have been involved in the justice system. The program will expose% n! P7 y. v2 p) n" I
participants to a wide range of components focusing on: employment
+ k' H! ^. ]7 E% udevelopment, personal wellness, technology learning, conflict resolution and
& c4 S7 G+ y; [, @" v, A* bexposure courses. Additionally, we will incorporate topics around health and* K* I: c& o7 j' j$ ?; j
wellness, volunteerism and leadership courses. The youth will be provided with a! j7 s$ M% X9 b [' [
6-month employment follow-up once the program is completed.
- a9 V U3 ]+ UThe project will run from 9:30-4:00 p.m., Monday through Friday at the Central, g, B8 Z; X, E6 @8 Y
YOUCAN office, located at 8718-112 Avenue in Edmonton, Alberta.

+ B. R% D5 r% U/ m( z) B% Ecommunity to partner with YOUCAN to ensure there are employers that are

• Ensure the youth action plans are reflecting the employment goals as
) M+ T7 e, s1 `+ v* k/ d; ^being realistic to each youth participant
4 q- A5 O4 l' |! X# ?# m! d6 r4 m3 p, ^• Work with the youth to find the appropriate training needed to equip the
, \* J* G" P; `) fyouth with the necessary skills needed to find the employment suitable to. I z4 A* n7 z' B3 E- H! O

• Assist youth with employment development including the development of5 m& t! A/ F' m9 J' L
cover letters and resumes etc.
. `/ J; u$ a# j- Q6 w/ @: [• Coordinate the employment exposure component and on site work8 F6 r' x- b9 E3 O F; L! e$ V
experience of the project, and monitor the progress of each youth at the
' X) k4 D- j. K3 e4 L$ e# |placements
- W5 E( o) ?0 L3 |, u+ z• Conduct the 6 month follow up process for each of the youth, evaluating$ W3 \3 j; x3 r( ]" m3 [
the process, and supporting the youth where needed# j( |# r5 A/ m% H/ G) n( w
• Work closely with staff of the Verto Project to ensure the holistic approach
1 x& o' e" V6 X# L9 {is being fulfilled for each youth* W$ {+ \: q% j. g' j ^2 Z- J2 q7 ~
• Administrative tasks, such as phone, fax, filing, copying, etc. that are( s7 K8 k3 z8 [$ e- t+ F
related to YOUCAN’s Verto Project9 s! q' F! O* J4 j. F3 F9 e; S f
• Other tasks as they arise within the position9 ?' \& L% ^: H# i: [ t/ v
Experience Required: Employment Developer) z, Q$ Q1 G2 [5 E: |
 Post-secondary education or 3 years related experience accepted+ d. n+ E/ D6 Q1 H2 N& e
 A minimum of three years relevant experience is required.
