The YOUCAN VERTO Project is a Government of Canada funded project that will
# n# j7 ^+ [+ v0 D" ^/ ]7 ~bring 12 (per intake) at-risk youth together into a unique 20 week group-based
' ^1 `+ f B3 i+ e- ], Wemployability skills program entitled “The VERTO Project”; 16 weeks of day' L" @' Y) m; a; o! j3 y
program and 4 weeks of employment exposure. YOUCAN is an acronym that
$ Q) H: t5 d7 Cstands for Youth Organizing to Understand Conflict and Advocate Non-Violence.
8 z: c' z/ Z6 wYOUCAN has served youth in the Edmonton area for almost six years and our$ P( a; y; c% P% C# v3 I
mission is to equip youth to engage and inspire others to peacefully resolve
2 S7 u) |$ m) D+ D) cconflicts and develop healthy relationships in their communities. The goal of the" t9 m0 \4 P) O' b
VERTO Program is to assist participants in obtaining and maintaining the skills+ j' a4 f2 W* N. _2 v
necessary to bring success into their lives. The program is designed to serve# O8 L: F$ b/ o7 R, L! C
youth who have been involved in the justice system. The program will expose
9 M+ g& n7 h! U. M# S6 ?, [" xparticipants to a wide range of components focusing on: employment
* l& J) m9 |( K; Mdevelopment, personal wellness, technology learning, conflict resolution and
) l0 R, P) i3 K: E4 z! pexposure courses. Additionally, we will incorporate topics around health and
9 ^$ ]) ] ]9 i9 d% }8 L: ]wellness, volunteerism and leadership courses. The youth will be provided with a
" c8 G" m8 M+ I: z* }9 R% @6-month employment follow-up once the program is completed.
: w7 Q: G9 B2 v5 `The project will run from 9:30-4:00 p.m., Monday through Friday at the Central1 w7 u0 ], h( G( a/ U7 V7 ~/ M4 n
YOUCAN office, located at 8718-112 Avenue in Edmonton, Alberta.* u" ^* O2 }' V2 Z
The following position is a one-year contract with the possibility of/ ~1 J3 E$ }% R. A1 F

Employment Developer: 1 Full-Time Position (40hrs/week)
: ~; X3 x% ]3 I• Responsible for building relationships with employers within the' h+ S2 L6 ?: }9 ?2 t
community to partner with YOUCAN to ensure there are employers that are1 F# G4 I R5 P" M" r9 X
willing to expose youth to the current employment opportunities
5 o5 _2 O8 I+ O& s• Ensure the youth action plans are reflecting the employment goals as. _) o( r$ P! u2 @
being realistic to each youth participant, o Z7 H) K# l Y1 w% m) h: q. J
• Work with the youth to find the appropriate training needed to equip the
! A q8 k# {6 M0 Myouth with the necessary skills needed to find the employment suitable to- w$ F2 F1 [ J8 ?% F: j
each participant
T! u* b' n# n! Z: P% |8 @• Assist youth with employment development including the development of
" E2 p {! b/ _cover letters and resumes etc.& ]2 D' {9 W+ Q u4 U7 b5 a+ K
• Coordinate the employment exposure component and on site work
% f) h/ s3 J; I- T1 w, o* c$ }7 qexperience of the project, and monitor the progress of each youth at the! ~0 ~- `, X0 u1 T
placements
! A2 x% M2 G; U$ y5 R4 B# Y7 s3 i2 z• Conduct the 6 month follow up process for each of the youth, evaluating
# ~4 c% }, `4 E9 n+ C5 R8 mthe process, and supporting the youth where needed8 Q! |7 c4 M* T+ X) F
• Work closely with staff of the Verto Project to ensure the holistic approach6 b' w* _3 n+ G- [2 b5 @, B- x- D
is being fulfilled for each youth
E7 r9 P9 N! A' V7 z4 N5 ?• Administrative tasks, such as phone, fax, filing, copying, etc. that are4 }! {# ~5 E$ D2 e$ x8 k
related to YOUCAN’s Verto Project

Experience Required: Employment Developer" Y, x6 {$ d! |2 x' K# I
 Post-secondary education or 3 years related experience accepted7 N: _7 W3 B/ D0 P* K" O' R1 b
 A minimum of three years relevant experience is required.
