The VERTO Project
The YOUCAN VERTO Project is a Government of Canada funded project that will
bring 12 (per intake) at-risk youth together into a unique 20 week group-based
+ h  H0 n6 c+ `- ?6 u) T& aemployability skills program entitled “The VERTO Project”; 16 weeks of day
program and 4 weeks of employment exposure. YOUCAN is an acronym that
5 B5 W" m" h3 kstands for Youth Organizing to Understand Conflict and Advocate Non-Violence.
" d( n7 W. Z* P- |* o: E0 G& c3 MYOUCAN has served youth in the Edmonton area for almost six years and our
/ }$ h3 U/ k7 [: r& ymission is to equip youth to engage and inspire others to peacefully resolve
conflicts and develop healthy relationships in their communities. The goal of the
$ n% `( K( ?2 f, N: [0 S2 L- {VERTO Program is to assist participants in obtaining and maintaining the skills
9 u/ I$ Y) J* q1 P, hnecessary to bring success into their lives. The program is designed to serve
youth who have been involved in the justice system. The program will expose
% Y" X2 X' t+ `: Q$ q0 ]participants to a wide range of components focusing on: employment
0 M; H  H: Y) q6 H& o% ?development, personal wellness, technology learning, conflict resolution and
exposure courses. Additionally, we will incorporate topics around health and
" u. V6 \) O9 Zwellness, volunteerism and leadership courses. The youth will be provided with a
6-month employment follow-up once the program is completed.
The project will run from 9:30-4:00 p.m., Monday through Friday at the Central
YOUCAN office, located at 8718-112 Avenue in Edmonton, Alberta.
The following position is a one-year contract with the possibility of

  c$ Z! z8 l, q! {& k1 }& d( Scommunity to partner with YOUCAN to ensure there are employers that are
* W5 e  f  H- h5 F1 c( {willing to expose youth to the current employment opportunities
• Ensure the youth action plans are reflecting the employment goals as
2 [& \0 l* T3 [being realistic to each youth participant
• Work with the youth to find the appropriate training needed to equip the
youth with the necessary skills needed to find the employment suitable to
9 U- S2 e1 m1 E7 a! }( j: leach participant
• Assist youth with employment development including the development of
' t' X! S" _" @9 T* {" M0 O& a$ rcover letters and resumes etc.
• Coordinate the employment exposure component and on site work
experience of the project, and monitor the progress of each youth at the
placements
" ^2 O' C. J7 N$ x' t$ O• Conduct the 6 month follow up process for each of the youth, evaluating
1 t* z- t: ^$ |$ n0 Uthe process, and supporting the youth where needed
• Work closely with staff of the Verto Project to ensure the holistic approach
7 v2 `% j& G' c0 r7 Z# D. a% Ris being fulfilled for each youth
; g) Q$ L7 s7 n8 D• Administrative tasks, such as phone, fax, filing, copying, etc. that are
, F$ ~% ^1 `2 mrelated to YOUCAN’s Verto Project

 Post-secondary education or 3 years related experience accepted
 A minimum of three years relevant experience is required.

at risk as it pertains to employment
