: f0 Z6 d s% |" f! |! {Edmonton Transit is currently seeking applications for the challenging position of Conventional Transit Operator — for positions starting in Summer 2007. This is a long term posting with the successful applicants being called to fill positions on an ‘as-required’ basis.

FUNCTIONS:. M! m- `) O2 z
• Transport passengers to and from destinations on prescribed scheduled routes.
" i) x+ m/ ?7 S6 e. s( ~• Collect proper fare, issue transfers.7 M- G/ m6 l0 M# R
• Respond to customer queries concerning transit information.# d' Y& v6 N* i+ F4 ~9 Y. p
• Operate a Transit diesel bus and/or trolley coach, on a day, night or split shift under varying weather

• Obey and follow defensive driving guidelines, local traffic laws and Transit system regulations.

• Handle diverse and challenging situations.

JOB REQUIREMENTS:
9 @4 _4 t. h8 U4 C1 X* i• Grade eleven (11) or an equivalent educational level is required. Formal training in driving or public relations will be considered an asset.; n' b% V1 L. @( W* K$ n" P4 n
• Proven ability to deal directly with the public, with well-developed customer service skills; the ability

• Ability to meet the physical requirements of the job (operate bus controls, re-set trolley poles, provide passengers with assistance i.e. strollers, wheelchairs etc.).
# C5 y: L. ?% C: B$ O• Applicant must possess a valid class 5 Alberta Motor Vehicle Operator's license (non-probationary and non-graduated) and must have held a valid operator's license for (3) consecutive years.. q! s l4 q B( r2 T2 B% U _
• Selected applicants must pass the Alberta Motor Vehicle Operator's class 2 written test, at their own expense, prior to training.
& I$ L/ F; x8 l: T" Y• Applicant must provide a current driver's abstract (obtained within 14 days of the video test date) % _ S! r! v5 J. P6 c% T) C [
showing no suspensions and no more than 3 demerits recorded over the previous 2 year period.
$ d( Y* J6 D9 o- ]9 X- N• Ability to pass a written English comprehension test, a public relations video-test, a driving skill 6 `( f i. a* ?2 J, d- t
video-test, a Functional Abilities Recruitment Evaluation (F.A.R.E.) test, a pre-employment City medical examination and a Police Security clearance (at their own expense, prior to training).$ ^' E0 p2 q) z1 \
• Successful completion of the ETS Training Program.- C$ [* j. w0 p- X) ~
• Internal ETS applicants must have completed all mandatory in-house training.+ a3 V4 F: o/ F" z4 C3 \2 ]

; w0 d7 C8 I0 y* n2 tVarious hours of shift work (straight or split shift), any time of the day, any 5 days of the week % k! ~; ]* Z# _9 F% Y4 n* O9 @
1st year: Guaranteed minimum 67.4 hours bi-weekly
' K b7 @( @" J7 uThereafter: Guaranteed minimum 74 hours biweekly

Post Training Rate: $20.36 - $25.45 Hourly# g# u9 i, E8 H6 o0 B- m. q
The rates quoted are in accordance with a collective agreement between the Union and the City of Edmonton.
