& p0 {* ?4 V/ m* yEdmonton Transit is currently seeking applications for the challenging position of Conventional Transit Operator — for positions starting in Summer 2007. This is a long term posting with the successful applicants being called to fill positions on an ‘as-required’ basis.

9 k" X  u7 N5 D9 sFUNCTIONS:
•        Transport passengers to and from destinations on prescribed scheduled routes.
1 V0 N9 g! S. `# W. x$ \3 c& A•        Collect proper fare, issue transfers.
•        Respond to customer queries concerning transit information.
•        Operate a Transit diesel bus and/or trolley coach, on a day, night or split shift under varying weather

# j* Q$ @" V) h1 R•        Adhere to schedules.
•        Obey and follow defensive driving guidelines, local traffic laws and Transit system regulations.
•        Ensure the safety of all passengers.

•        Communicate effectively in a variety of situations.
•        Provide excellent customer service.

$ o, V" u, R. I1 s: c0 A! hJOB REQUIREMENTS:
! q6 P" K: ]: J' J7 ^; }* x•        Grade eleven (11) or an equivalent educational level is required. Formal training in driving or public relations will be considered an asset.
: K9 a( e# L) Y- c, o- _•        Proven ability to deal directly with the public, with well-developed customer service skills; the ability
to be diplomatic and courteous in dealing with the public, from the first passenger to the last passenger
of the day.
- O( ]6 J( s7 D+ s0 c6 g0 ^  k5 L•        Ability to meet the physical requirements of the job (operate bus controls, re-set trolley poles, provide passengers with assistance i.e. strollers, wheelchairs etc.).
•        Applicant must possess a valid class 5 Alberta Motor Vehicle Operator's license (non-probationary and non-graduated) and must have held a valid operator's license for (3) consecutive years.
•        Selected applicants must pass the Alberta Motor Vehicle Operator's class 2 written test, at their own expense, prior to training.
•        Applicant must provide a current driver's abstract (obtained within 14 days of the video test date)
showing no suspensions and no more than 3 demerits recorded over the previous 2 year period.

video-test, a Functional Abilities Recruitment Evaluation (F.A.R.E.) test, a pre-employment City medical examination and a Police Security clearance (at their own expense, prior to training).
•        Successful completion of the ETS Training Program.
" S8 u( z9 N( S, r•        Internal ETS applicants must have completed all mandatory in-house training.

' l0 l! \: E1 ]HOURS OF WORK:
Various hours of shift work (straight or split shift), any time of the day, any 5 days of the week
: a5 v: T3 |% V& v( A& c& S1st year:  Guaranteed minimum 67.4 hours bi-weekly
Thereafter:  Guaranteed minimum 74 hours biweekly

SALARY RANGE:  401, Salary Grade: 004
Training Rate:  $16.56 Hourly
Post Training Rate:  $20.36 - $25.45 Hourly
The rates quoted are in accordance with a collective agreement between the Union and the City of Edmonton.
