7 z# c/ B: ?! G# o9 t0 u+ oEdmonton Transit is currently seeking applications for the challenging position of Conventional Transit Operator — for positions starting in Summer 2007. This is a long term posting with the successful applicants being called to fill positions on an ‘as-required’ basis.

3 w% E7 G+ |6 D' w6 dFUNCTIONS:
* S4 `2 W$ |/ M! h•        Transport passengers to and from destinations on prescribed scheduled routes.
•        Collect proper fare, issue transfers.
7 O3 G$ @  B5 R" D- t/ i•        Respond to customer queries concerning transit information.
•        Operate a Transit diesel bus and/or trolley coach, on a day, night or split shift under varying weather
+ v4 z: M8 y+ A7 h! Hand traffic conditions.
+ @5 P. t8 n1 T! ]3 K8 R" \•        Adhere to schedules.
8 W; b) x; N% v, a! _•        Obey and follow defensive driving guidelines, local traffic laws and Transit system regulations.
•        Ensure the safety of all passengers.
•        Handle diverse and challenging situations.

•        Provide excellent customer service.

) J5 |2 D  ]( V/ [7 eJOB REQUIREMENTS:
•        Grade eleven (11) or an equivalent educational level is required. Formal training in driving or public relations will be considered an asset.
) \, b/ r* ]( p  K: S# e$ g•        Proven ability to deal directly with the public, with well-developed customer service skills; the ability
( H& |7 G; J' k+ ]$ B2 }6 lto be diplomatic and courteous in dealing with the public, from the first passenger to the last passenger
  A8 N7 w& s. t  Aof the day.
. V; i% `/ e* r# D: C& H9 {•        Ability to meet the physical requirements of the job (operate bus controls, re-set trolley poles, provide passengers with assistance i.e. strollers, wheelchairs etc.).
•        Applicant must possess a valid class 5 Alberta Motor Vehicle Operator's license (non-probationary and non-graduated) and must have held a valid operator's license for (3) consecutive years.
/ D3 j; C3 t( O- p# e* @$ `! Y: ~•        Selected applicants must pass the Alberta Motor Vehicle Operator's class 2 written test, at their own expense, prior to training.
•        Applicant must provide a current driver's abstract (obtained within 14 days of the video test date)
- K  q1 O9 J! u! r7 n' o" y% ashowing no suspensions and no more than 3 demerits recorded over the previous 2 year period.
•        Ability to pass a written English comprehension test, a public relations video-test, a driving skill
" Q, J( N7 M# Dvideo-test, a Functional Abilities Recruitment Evaluation (F.A.R.E.) test, a pre-employment City medical examination and a Police Security clearance (at their own expense, prior to training).
* [* t* @7 u+ B4 ~9 _" m6 v, M! K0 o•        Successful completion of the ETS Training Program.
•        Internal ETS applicants must have completed all mandatory in-house training.

6 y5 L4 s( d4 g" b9 UHOURS OF WORK:
! d) L( D8 i( N; S  @Various hours of shift work (straight or split shift), any time of the day, any 5 days of the week
1st year:  Guaranteed minimum 67.4 hours bi-weekly
Thereafter:  Guaranteed minimum 74 hours biweekly

SALARY RANGE:  401, Salary Grade: 004
) a0 |1 q: `" P" B3 _Training Rate:  $16.56 Hourly
3 E0 z- k( w# R( u% TPost Training Rate:  $20.36 - $25.45 Hourly
The rates quoted are in accordance with a collective agreement between the Union and the City of Edmonton.
