Edmonton Transit is currently seeking applications for the challenging position of Conventional Transit Operator — for positions starting in Summer 2007. This is a long term posting with the successful applicants being called to fill positions on an ‘as-required’ basis.( t9 K( p/ D$ @

, [) v* I( ]6 E& l• Transport passengers to and from destinations on prescribed scheduled routes.: v8 H2 `$ u9 E& j4 @! j; e$ W) T
• Collect proper fare, issue transfers.! Q0 O9 z7 ^. i: z7 Z' q8 i
• Respond to customer queries concerning transit information.
9 \. P: N6 N% R) D0 @/ @• Operate a Transit diesel bus and/or trolley coach, on a day, night or split shift under varying weather

• Grade eleven (11) or an equivalent educational level is required. Formal training in driving or public relations will be considered an asset.7 K1 a& b, h- M* p
• Proven ability to deal directly with the public, with well-developed customer service skills; the ability 5 D/ \: K3 X( E
to be diplomatic and courteous in dealing with the public, from the first passenger to the last passenger ; h( r; u" `+ z6 j9 w

• Ability to meet the physical requirements of the job (operate bus controls, re-set trolley poles, provide passengers with assistance i.e. strollers, wheelchairs etc.).
C0 D3 g3 G* r5 ] {* m• Applicant must possess a valid class 5 Alberta Motor Vehicle Operator's license (non-probationary and non-graduated) and must have held a valid operator's license for (3) consecutive years.
+ l# V# ]1 y# N0 D7 u) U• Selected applicants must pass the Alberta Motor Vehicle Operator's class 2 written test, at their own expense, prior to training.* D& {- U J' ~) ~1 G
• Applicant must provide a current driver's abstract (obtained within 14 days of the video test date) " P; c+ l/ I, @
showing no suspensions and no more than 3 demerits recorded over the previous 2 year period.
$ s! Y2 g7 N9 m6 g* ], v• Ability to pass a written English comprehension test, a public relations video-test, a driving skill
6 o+ D5 V9 P7 ^$ g% p+ Svideo-test, a Functional Abilities Recruitment Evaluation (F.A.R.E.) test, a pre-employment City medical examination and a Police Security clearance (at their own expense, prior to training).

9 l; x( t. R! N* I• Internal ETS applicants must have completed all mandatory in-house training.

Various hours of shift work (straight or split shift), any time of the day, any 5 days of the week ' \$ n: `* s! X0 l
1st year: Guaranteed minimum 67.4 hours bi-weekly
