/ i( Z4 r; k. e% [: _/ vEdmonton Transit is currently seeking applications for the challenging position of Conventional Transit Operator — for positions starting in Summer 2007. This is a long term posting with the successful applicants being called to fill positions on an ‘as-required’ basis.

•        Transport passengers to and from destinations on prescribed scheduled routes.
$ e% W- h. N0 X4 S) K0 F5 {•        Collect proper fare, issue transfers.
•        Respond to customer queries concerning transit information.
•        Operate a Transit diesel bus and/or trolley coach, on a day, night or split shift under varying weather

•        Obey and follow defensive driving guidelines, local traffic laws and Transit system regulations.

" B+ J( j+ h1 p8 b! JJOB REQUIREMENTS:
- A2 O/ y" _$ d; P9 X* b9 s) z# m•        Grade eleven (11) or an equivalent educational level is required. Formal training in driving or public relations will be considered an asset.
•        Proven ability to deal directly with the public, with well-developed customer service skills; the ability
( I3 F) \. B5 _$ i: F% [to be diplomatic and courteous in dealing with the public, from the first passenger to the last passenger
of the day.
( O% B4 Y% G0 k8 W6 b- k•        Ability to meet the physical requirements of the job (operate bus controls, re-set trolley poles, provide passengers with assistance i.e. strollers, wheelchairs etc.).
# q% F3 T8 Z4 g1 ~•        Applicant must possess a valid class 5 Alberta Motor Vehicle Operator's license (non-probationary and non-graduated) and must have held a valid operator's license for (3) consecutive years.
! |5 X# M' o8 G: S$ o; L% i•        Selected applicants must pass the Alberta Motor Vehicle Operator's class 2 written test, at their own expense, prior to training.
•        Applicant must provide a current driver's abstract (obtained within 14 days of the video test date)
showing no suspensions and no more than 3 demerits recorded over the previous 2 year period.
•        Ability to pass a written English comprehension test, a public relations video-test, a driving skill
video-test, a Functional Abilities Recruitment Evaluation (F.A.R.E.) test, a pre-employment City medical examination and a Police Security clearance (at their own expense, prior to training).
•        Successful completion of the ETS Training Program.
•        Internal ETS applicants must have completed all mandatory in-house training.

% W' M; n; s; G5 ?HOURS OF WORK:
Various hours of shift work (straight or split shift), any time of the day, any 5 days of the week
1st year:  Guaranteed minimum 67.4 hours bi-weekly
Thereafter:  Guaranteed minimum 74 hours biweekly

. K- _7 S. }) ^, USALARY RANGE:  401, Salary Grade: 004
1 l+ T- U  G: [8 l) O% XTraining Rate:  $16.56 Hourly
Post Training Rate:  $20.36 - $25.45 Hourly
The rates quoted are in accordance with a collective agreement between the Union and the City of Edmonton.
