I'd like to invite people to join our new Community Dialogue project.$ @" g. n. ]4 D; b% ?
In phase 1 we have a couple of extra spots available for Community z9 C& J" w% ~: e/ x: ~. Q" d
Engagement Training./ J+ }' ?3 {* S) R2 _- U
3 ?: K1 y2 K1 g7 |3 X, cWe can accept a few people to join us this Friday (3~6 p.m.)and Saturday, W+ r8 ^+ j7 R
(9~3 p.m. ) to improve skills in building multicultural neighbourhood [! k5 S- q$ l9 U+ @, v# r
groups. We're especially focused on developing groups that can work: D$ ~* z" k$ ?9 a- ~
together across cultures to create community projects and Action for Healthy' q R6 [" r5 O& t* u) E) b/ b2 Z& e
Communities can often support these projects with funding of up to $1,000.

Pacific, "Bougainville Sky" is the story of how music helped overcome years5 q3 |( U6 @& X' ] T( ~1 `
of fear and distrust to rebuild peace in a war torn society. When bitter5 H3 d; h* T- \% a
conflict on Bougainville Island ended in 1997, the combatants invited the" |1 w* L7 K) ^* [1 G
international community to send in a Peacekeeping force on one condition:; E- T9 i* r/ W# X5 x
they come unarmed. Amongst the Peacekeepers was young Australian songwriter
" x) {) R! ^: ^5 L4 e2 wIain Campbell Smith, whose music and radio program became a legend on the( n$ {/ o" P9 |/ y7 }" n; w1 \
island and contributed to the success of the world¹s first unarmed* A7 q) M+ a# S8 E/ i1 |6 w
international peacekeeping operation.
" H$ i+ @/ F# v" C% l
$ _5 s% I4 w% [This beautifully shot film allows the Bougainvillean people to tell their

screens are filled with images from the interventions in Iraq and) _. K( N8 U; \. v% N* J% I
Afghanistan, the success story of the Bougainville peace process seems8 Q0 v% z4 C) T5 I
improbable: an unarmed international intervention fostering local customs
. w& M9 y3 V, ]: |# qand music to strengthen an indigenous-run peace process < and it worked!/ e) p4 e' c3 \2 r

According to Smith "the fact that we were unarmed was critical to the
$ Q! o3 L# ?0 m8 X, Dsuccess of the peace process in Bougainville. It set the tone for the whole
2 L1 X! d' A* \9 w9 P$ S9 V' Hprocess, and put responsibility for the safety of the Peacekeepers in the
6 k4 \7 ?$ ~" X1 fhands of the militants and the people, rather than the other way around.: E; S8 j2 [/ {. [* T4 N6 `# ^
Also, because we were unarmed we couldn't scare anyone into doing anything,
