　　North country scene:
                                                                                               
　　A hundred leagues locked in ice,

( w- @1 {8 `4 I7 m, @　　A thousand leagues of whirling snow.

　　Both sides of the Great Wall

　　One single white immensity.

+ p1 Y5 m; H  d6 K　　The Yellow River"s swift current
& ~7 ]! F# g/ |, i
　　Is stilled from end to end.

1 O7 i4 z, ]( E3 b& u　　The mountains dance like silver snakes
4 G, m& f4 x7 t5 Y- t, L
$ B! ~# ~) `& F& X; \. E- [( F　　And the highlands* charge like wax-hued elephants,

　　Vying with heaven in stature.

) A9 e* D3 a4 O; a) X2 O　　On a fine day, the land,

: X3 u/ ]5 a9 F  X. ~　　Clad in white, adorned in red,

: _+ X1 l% i3 u/ c  ]　　Grows more enchanting.

　　But alas! Chin Shih-huang and Han Wu-ti

　　Were lacking in literary grace,

. f. {" S' {4 j. w  j% c2 l　　And Tang Tai-tsung and Sung Tai-tsu

　　Had little poetry in their souls;
　　And Genghis Khan,

　　Proud Son of Heaven for a day,

　　Knew only shooting eagles, bow outstretched
' h: m; {! K0 f
* x' I/ V6 H# G$ N4 J　　All are past and gone!

　　Look to this age alone.
