As a result, immigration and controversial laws around citizenship are coming up a bit more often on the doors, say candidates.; l" ?/ X+ i4 I% D1 ~
Conservative candidate Tim Uppal said his party has an excellent record on welcoming newcomers.

Uppal also defends bill C-24, legislation that allows the government to strip citizenship from dual citizens convicted of terrorism or treason. He said when someone has been convicted and served their time of a charge as serious as terrorism it’s common sense to deport them.

“It will not make us safe,” he said. “Every Canadian should be treated the same, you can’t have different punishments for the same crime.”

NDP candidate Jasvir Deol said the bill has many immigrant communities worried.
