/ d6 z; K r8 JImmigrant women and their families can now access a “household toolkit” crafted by a local service group for new immigrant families, through real estate agents.

In the tool kit are 75 common hand tools – like a hammer and screwdriver – as well a book on how to buy a home, a home maintenance schedule and other items.

& ?. E9 u$ K0 t' Q0 P& j“The tools are a symbol of hope for people trying to build new lives in Edmonton,” said Madeline Sarafinchan, president of the Edmonton Real Estate Board. 2 ~9 m7 P; k, N

The program was announced by a group called Changing Together… A Centre for Immigrant Women.

$ h" C& N c% q# ^& p! k* B" NJosephine Pallard, the group’s executive director, said Alberta’s economic boom has caused a housing shortage that makes it more difficult for immigrants to find a place to live and integrate into Canadian society.
