(a) drive a motor vehicle on a highway unless the motor. y+ v, R6 J* Q# P
vehicle is an insured motor vehicle;

vehicle is an insured motor vehicle;
4 q& j& C/ }) G2 r) m(c) where a person is the registered owner of a motor vehicle,8 S" n: U$ X6 `! G# I9 ?
permit another person
, y8 ~& l/ V ]$ u' X1 S0 i* A(i) to drive the motor vehicle on a highway, or
6 P3 q" ]1 q. p- o. B. z) u: c(ii) to have the motor vehicle on a highway,7 P9 `" a! U! _7 l6 \; x
unless the motor vehicle is an insured motor vehicle;) `; ^+ S0 }: Z2 t5 \
(d) give or lend a financial J+ C1 T f$ y$ M. A
responsibility card or a copy of it

If a person drives or has a motor vehicle on a highway2 `+ Z7 T) o- I" r% ^( T
without the expressed or implied consent of the registered owner of3 A ?+ d/ v5 S" u* Q: [
the vehicle, that person is deemed for the purposes of subsection, }. z% ?) U. k( A3 t
(1)(a) or (b) to drive or have on a highway a motor vehicle that is
+ `7 e) z6 |3 P, B2 H" B6 W2 @not an insured motor vehicle.

If the registration of a motor vehicle is suspended under this
4 @2 `& n+ s+ jAct, the motor vehicle is still registered for the purposes of this3 x' J7 ^3 M" O' J
section.

Subsection (1)(a) and (b) do not apply to a person to whom a
0 Z% U9 S& o. L) a3 O% V7 ?9 d% ^' Kfinancial responsibility card has been issued pursuant to the
) N. [. E6 E i% FInsurance Act
' l9 M2 z7 F7 X5 h* Uby an insurer who has issued an owner’s policy
! _. w; b% [% Doutside Alberta.
/ T7 D3 I4 Y$ S# J5 j(4)9 K: }$ ~3 A2 A# b& z; r E; @) @; l
A person, other than a corporation, who contravenes subsection
0 R, D4 M4 q7 F5 j1 h# \(1) or section 52(1)(h) or 167(8) is liable," A7 Q6 c: S( W4 q* U& F! r9 b
(a) for the first contravention, to a fine of not less than $25009 a2 T& l1 [( ]+ j2 @* a7 u
and not more than $10 000 and in default of payment to
; y* c1 U: G" S% D, aimprisonment for a term of not less than 45 days and not$ h9 @# T. K8 D1 I' ]% A$ w& U% ?
more than 6 months
