Responsibilities and Tasks

- Connect piping systems to water mains, supply tanks, pumps, compressors and control equipment 9 Z7 P" Q* w6 E- }* W
- Read and interpret drawings, blueprints and specifications furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form to determine layout requirements) X1 S3 \0 \/ v0 ~, W5 }
- Cut openings for pipe in walls, floors and ceilings using hand or power tools or machines
& a1 x5 ~% s8 D1 l5 o- Z- Select type and size of pipe required* n1 a9 W* |+ M) P# `7 [- d/ I$ {
- Measure, cut, thread and bend pipe to required shape using hand and power tools+ G! g# M1 D3 I7 P4 r" j4 i
- Weld, braze, cement, solder and thread joints to join pipes and fabricate sections of piping system
# ^8 t- p# r9 | k& s- Install supports, valves, piping and control systems
3 @* ^* v2 O( ^- Test system for leaks using testing equipment
% v' e. J% S. G+ J: L- Clean and maintain pipe units and fittings and flush system+ S: c% \- W/ f; J( @0 w+ f
- Remove and replace worn components and reactivate system

- Other tasks related to pipefitting as may be required during the course of business' B! e+ I4 r, Y' f

- Completion of secondary school: h( i% q4 N' |( f# y p9 v
- Completion of formal Apprenticeship Program of four- to five-years or a combination of over five years of work experience in the trade and some high school, college or industry courses in pipefitting system installation E; G. |. ?' p# A& ^4 @
- Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals
