You've brought up an interesting point about the subtle difference. The vowel does have a tongue position between /e/ and /i/, and we can say it's a separate vowel with /r/ coloring.

Thanks for your confirmation. Sometimes I am not sure if I catch English sounds precisely, so I would like to check with folks here. I know some of them are very good at it.
