Speed and power, without compromise. That’s how I’d sum up my impression

within a body that boasts revolutionary technological advances. The 3D color- i; _/ o$ ^1 z! B2 [8 _
matrix metering III, wide dynamic range and the improved AF performance9 _, Q- R0 Q% z, d
in low light are just a few features that are glaring improvements. The D800; \+ K9 u; H4 k+ v0 ~ m! {
allows me to concentrate on the light, the composition and my subject
. h4 H0 h8 Q7 k0 b Y$ F/ xwithout having to think about much else. In years past, wedding photography0 z9 j8 \! @) q h
was traditionally captured with medium-format equipment for maximum
4 M# G: D/ ~7 [. rimage quality. When the 35mm format was adopted within the genre, it was* J4 x# q" a- ?2 f/ S" t+ ^! z3 O
widely accepted that image quality was compromised in lieu of speed and& t. J* _# U" ?3 n4 z0 r2 E: Q
convenience. Now, my wedding portraiture will have a depth it’s never shown
' K1 D# G2 C c) ^% vbefore, and my style of shooting will be enhanced rather than compromised,
) T! @* F1 ?8 |' r, gthanks to the D800.
+ p8 [. d$ F% g5 PWhen I’m shooting beauty and jewelry in the studio or fashion on location,
: }% C; d6 P% Z* C36.3 megapixels changes the industry standard: in image quality, dynamic- \8 p9 Y' F, E7 s( r! h% ^ b6 f
range, color rendering and the final print. The detail from the D800 produces

D-SLR. The improvements in rendering skin tone and specular highlights, as/ @2 x; g' K' F" Q% {# T0 h( Y* D
well as fabric and hair detail are superior to anything that has come before.
" Z1 T) j8 W8 ?Autofocus quickly tracks models in motion. Nikon’s 91K-pixel RGB sensor
/ S; m `) {7 m! |% Y% qhas noticeable improvements in metering accuracy, while the larger LCD is0 L! l) j# r5 \* f4 b
easier to read. The camera body feels solid and ergonomically simple, while
' y B g+ E1 D, Y; V* Oalso feeling lighter and smaller than previous high-resolution Nikons. New+ e- S* b0 E' ^ Z
cameras always inspire me to test and explore, and all the useful features
5 c7 ~) y- p% _ N% zin such a compact package will open huge creative possibilities for my highquality
/ R0 b& f: x; {6 }prints and video.
! L6 e( l: z/ @8 NTo me, cameras are more like paintbrushes than technology. The goal is9 [2 f3 A/ c/ W8 \* z# b
not megapixels or technique but the image, and while camera models4 ?0 }% @& t, p$ W3 a# Q
are important, they are not the be-all or end-all. But after a lifetime using
/ w% d6 x: R7 v1 K7 D; Gcountless cameras, I have found a new best friend. It was not love at first m& o+ K& ?( U
sight. The sharpness and detail were initially intimidating, exposing my flaws
; X; I/ i; P+ E9 h0 Alike never before. Subtle camera movements showed and differences of. {/ Q/ c) | p6 n' ?; S
acuity between aperture choices on various lenses were apparent. But now I

though they were made with a 4x5 view camera! Special features like timelapse& q' o1 R2 n# B# u2 R0 F/ b! e
photography and the improved HD video quality and flexibility also add
* r" C7 Q' s; ~0 V2 [tremendously to the camera’s personality. After spending a month with the
# l' v+ y+ v$ r& x0 C+ UD800, I’ll never be the same again. Perhaps the best compliment I can express
