it all depand on what you want. a diamond ring can be broken down into the following 4 categories:
" D# g l: o+ w- ` z7 q4 H$ f* b! i: T8 V+ e! d3 h5 P
size
$ K: B1 r: n6 }/ r% pcolour' w# l6 _% m+ A5 R [# c
clarity
9 \" n1 g* `9 {- b- z) tcut! J0 X n$ ]; x) y- x3 Y
- ~3 t7 X4 P% O0 a2 d* E
if you want a very high clarity and colour, then $10K CAD may only get you a 0.5 ct diamond if you don't care as much about colour and clarity, then you can easily get a 1.0 ct or bigger ring. typically, girls care more about the clarity and size.

the cutting of the diamond is also very important. a well cut 0.5 ct diamond may look as big or maybe even bigger on surface than a 1.0 ct diamond if it wasn't cut properly.
3 M- P# @6 I# `& ?4 ?+ P6 d! w$ @+ A1 f7 e: J) F$ g
the solitary princess diamond is the most popular style for an engagement ring. solitaty means a single large diamond (not a whole bunch of small diamonds or dusts but with the total weight added to a 1.0 ct) and princess means it's cut into a round shape on top (not square or oval shape)) i. F, Z9 A" b
3 z; \/ r2 o# V8 x* wthe band (ring itself) can be found in white gold 14K or 18K. typically, the better the diamond, the better band it comes with. ie <$5000 ring usually comes with a 14K band but >$5000 ring will come with a 18K band.

if i remember correctly, last year, I saw a diamond ring at costco with 0.75 ct, E (colour), VVS2 (clarity), very well cut cost around $12K CAD. comes with a canadian certifiation. |
