T.A.N.G. Youth Program is an educational and activity-based program aiming to equip % Q0 t  e! P3 Q  s( Z+ \
Asian youth to make healthy and safe choice. Recreational challenges, volunteering ! a! Q3 P% a9 e: h
opportunities, leadership training, as well as educational sessions on
7 W' x9 P; b% [9 V6 iinterpersonal skills, anger management, personal development, ' A0 I) F0 W0 K  w! Z- {
and  Canadian-Asian culture are some of the ways in which this goal is achieved." T5 P- U% j- u" `% ^

What will take place in the sessions?
. K! ~1 H9 y- D- g; \& dEach session presents concepts through interactive activities that encourage active discussion and participation.

& b  `$ G  Y' @. @These activities will enable youth to:. g: w. W( W- w  p' S
 Explore personal interests in arts and recreation
& X& _$ Q( p6 r9 l7 A# r+ \ Learn how to access community services and programs
$ R1 J5 R- I( o& p: D Develop self-confidence and problem solving skills) i, i# l7 P9 y- i: J
 Identify personal leadership strengths …

Program Schedule:
: T5 ]0 Q. d1 U  ]# ^7 J) }Regular Spring and Fall Group Sessions: runs on alternate Saturday afternoon from 2 to 5 p.m.
7 E$ w9 e, j7 r7 {/ Q0 l0 RSummer Group Sessions: 2 consecutive weeks in July from 9 to 5 p.m. daily- [: F/ V9 E6 ?" ]  d5 p2 q
                              2 consecutive weeks in August from 9 to 5 p.m. daily
* B6 U" {+ q/ E/ U) y% u1 y$ [- L. j' s
# m* R" c  G" T, @/ w/ GWho can participate?
- }; L. U  h# P. Z0 R7 U/ iAsian youth aged 11 to 15, who are new immigrants or locally born Asian living in Edmonton or surrounding area.

, |& n; Z! w3 d9 y! Z+ S) s& w  IWhat is the cost of joining the T.A.N.G. program?
1 e& v* ~( k3 v2 SIt is FREE and space is limited to 15 to 20 participants per group.

0 k7 f5 j/ a9 q3 qVolunteer’s Duties:
* G, g2 v: j+ Z4 c0 E  e' ]. S1 P% `( E" j( y  @% l' B, Q. }
 Distribute promotional flyers to schools, churches, communities and social services agencies
6 G) Z1 |% u  A. r" A  I; g Facilitate and/or coordinate   activity-based function such as to host a gym day or sport tournaments or workshop on personal growth development
0 q0 P% a, c5 n2 M1 K Facilitate or assist in ice-breakers and/or other activities
$ {' Y& w! \6 M+ Y$ q- X+ _& G Facilitate or assist in small group discussions
- ^4 c5 o" \$ D6 n Research activities related to the sessions’ topic
, l$ X/ ~3 H+ `, q, T, j Enforce safety rules during program sessions and fieldtrips
; o; I" y# }/ _5 ?8 A. Q Assist in program planning
: D- U& P% H; G* F9 ? Be a role model  @. k- [  l/ h6 G4 V
: H) w, Z% d) {2 {8 s4 v
Volunteer Commitment:
, x) X3 Z# C: P4 h! w7 w2 ~ * v- ?# ^9 E2 }8 }+ P
 On-going volunteers (we have volunteers dedicated themselves to the program for almost 4 years)' ~3 T6 J4 s4 \' n8 D+ M
 One time volunteers:  minimum commitment is one seasonal session, i.e. 8 – 10 sessions in Spring, Fall or Summer' h* D" K$ a# p& |# T

* O. H$ Z! ]. m" `8 v2 rAttitude/Skills Requirements:
" r# p+ x. l- z) W/ O6 H
+ [. E# P4 H1 z! q; b* H Mature, patient, organized, willing to take and follow instruction from Program Coordinator4 a5 I2 m8 ~2 u# y) E# H3 d
 Open and willing to initiate and maintain a positive relationship with youth in the program
% \+ g1 [1 t2 F8 X- b1 w* C% ` A team player) }$ L; T1 h/ t. e' v& \
 Able to work independently with minimum supervision
& g/ N1 Y2 @/ ?3 E1 A Value the building on strengths of  children, youth and families
  M4 }7 g7 b5 y) s/ v& S Willing to work with youth including youth at risk, D; @" [) b5 D  T
. X- d, w2 n  G$ O% @+ X
