T.A.N.G. Youth Program is an educational and activity-based program aiming to equip
$ w3 ]. a9 p' z9 rAsian youth to make healthy and safe choice. Recreational challenges, volunteering " ]; x- i  {/ X' v; i
opportunities, leadership training, as well as educational sessions on ; f: q% f* E* @2 c; L( H, ]
interpersonal skills, anger management, personal development,
3 y% y, i0 o7 g% y4 B$ y- E8 Wand  Canadian-Asian culture are some of the ways in which this goal is achieved.% l* k) ~& c5 }

, T7 u- E/ n! EWhat will take place in the sessions?" D& ^) ?9 S; \6 a  x# d; Q
Each session presents concepts through interactive activities that encourage active discussion and participation.

These activities will enable youth to:+ C+ z9 V1 o; L; D
 Explore personal interests in arts and recreation
# u# d! O: T0 Q3 u+ v9 e( P+ D Learn how to access community services and programs& s. n" @2 N  A+ t$ R
 Develop self-confidence and problem solving skills/ }# ?5 G1 {6 H! [( d( y" n
 Identify personal leadership strengths …

Regular Spring and Fall Group Sessions: runs on alternate Saturday afternoon from 2 to 5 p.m.5 m, L$ o# v% B
Summer Group Sessions: 2 consecutive weeks in July from 9 to 5 p.m. daily
: G) e+ Z" x* L7 V4 |$ s                              2 consecutive weeks in August from 9 to 5 p.m. daily

9 m4 k: }9 v/ r9 iWho can participate?$ k! \, W! p  o/ q8 R! o
Asian youth aged 11 to 15, who are new immigrants or locally born Asian living in Edmonton or surrounding area.

: \3 y6 v' p9 R! u0 W1 X! {# yWhat is the cost of joining the T.A.N.G. program?  X: j1 c5 D; m3 k
It is FREE and space is limited to 15 to 20 participants per group.

Volunteer’s Duties:
! d/ n! }2 ^2 w! I7 ^" f+ o; l7 E/ @# G$ j4 m; |/ V0 s1 H
 Distribute promotional flyers to schools, churches, communities and social services agencies
( q$ M. y4 l5 z7 F7 c Facilitate and/or coordinate   activity-based function such as to host a gym day or sport tournaments or workshop on personal growth development
2 S3 h- D( V/ `: X2 D. o Facilitate or assist in ice-breakers and/or other activities8 R4 q2 A) C6 I- Z% O& b
 Facilitate or assist in small group discussions' I2 H( T( ]% Q; ~  ~3 H
 Research activities related to the sessions’ topic
% C! x. w# p3 ~" j! \: Z2 g' n Enforce safety rules during program sessions and fieldtrips
* g( N: b0 d( e& R" h3 d Assist in program planning8 F( E, {4 O8 M: \* d3 m
 Be a role model
3 W5 E  S/ P) y5 J9 C  T/ `1 U8 V5 R7 d4 M3 Z6 [
Volunteer Commitment:
3 }0 V6 c$ f% [ ! A. B) k" z, B5 A  G' ?
 On-going volunteers (we have volunteers dedicated themselves to the program for almost 4 years)
* k) w) ?- s; @1 ~5 B- M+ { One time volunteers:  minimum commitment is one seasonal session, i.e. 8 – 10 sessions in Spring, Fall or Summer
* _0 z' k' l: G2 Z6 U" \  j/ A' y. ~
Attitude/Skills Requirements:7 O. x; h+ D: n! i

 Mature, patient, organized, willing to take and follow instruction from Program Coordinator/ O, w( t; _& |: t$ a& Z2 J% X0 i
 Open and willing to initiate and maintain a positive relationship with youth in the program. L; t! a- O* u& [3 Y8 ]) I7 y" U, F
 A team player
4 o& u  L$ Z% D8 K Able to work independently with minimum supervision
" \2 x6 G) d6 b! f1 ]' k Value the building on strengths of  children, youth and families) C4 d1 O8 W7 j1 i& b( d8 J8 ]
 Willing to work with youth including youth at risk
5 g# m' g' H6 H4 {1 R5 V& s5 H; L' k
