Position Profile Heavy Duty Mechanics inspect, service, and maintain diesel locomotives in accordance with federal and company regulations.

7 {, M9 W& j; o3 x' x+ P; AThey are also responsible for other important tasks, including:

Diagnosing diesel engine malfunctions and making indicated repairs
Operating machinery in a safe and effective manner
Providing daily locomotive maintenance that includes changing oil or repairing, replacing, cleaning and adjusting parts
Assembling and starting engines
/ d( j2 [3 ], d( EDiagnosing locomotive component malfunctions
Preparing inspection, work and maintenance reports
) {% W( O/ V& f1 RPerforming other functions as assigned

Physical work, sometimes outdoors in extreme weather conditions

Basic technical knowledge of diesel

3 h- W5 |/ C3 E# G$ mVisual acuity and hearing threshold tests are required for this position. Written pre-employment tests to become a Machinist Apprentice are required for this position. Completion of 3-year apprenticeship is required to become a Journeyman Machinist. This position is subject to night, weekend and holiday work hours when needed.
