The Coordinator of the Multicultural Coalition" L7 S+ A+ d) p
Roles and Functions
% e; A9 ?8 |% @; ?9 E ~The Coordinator is responsible for the over-all management and operations of the+ Y( ?6 k- n: ?- r% Z
organization. The Coordinator defines the objectives, policies and goals for the0 k& j& x9 Z6 p0 ?3 e
operations of the organization staff within the general board policies. He/she has
' ?+ H: J- M [6 L9 ithe important responsibility of accurately reporting on financial progress,
9 J' e h2 l1 ] Goperational concerns, organizational problems and accomplishments at regular- T; ?2 x! j$ I* W' A& P
board meetings. Short-range planning is the responsibility of the Coordinator and is
$ _5 t, m0 ?3 I- l) m$ L$ V. W0 jconducted within the policy guidelines of the board. The Coordinator is an& E+ ~, n1 V- u0 H) @
employee of the board and therefore should not be part of the board which hires
3 [9 `! Y" Z9 v8 Q0 j) U8 istaff and sets their salaries. However, the Coordinator should be required to attend0 e, ~9 n. } U7 [: ^
all board meetings and be an active, nonvoting participant.

Functions and responsibilities:( @! M# g% h' R6 g* Z, X2 p
The specific functions of the coordinator include the following:
" W1 i5 h1 m8 H9 W' J& J! f4 K1. Provides over-all coordination of Coalition activities in consultation with the

2. Builds and sustain relationships and partnerships with ethnocultural/ k/ B' G$ a8 `- j d+ g
organizations, immigrant and refugee communities, voluntary organizations
& k J$ H" [7 S+ p3 d) r0 tand public institutions6 y; E% y8 r D. `0 C; H+ N
3. Seeks opportunities to ensure sustainability of the organization through5 W3 ]$ c4 {# ^% O9 g# s
funding opportunities and maintaining initiatives
% X: |) J! i5 @4. Liaise with funders, public and non-profit organizations and community
: ]1 g" i. R: |9 N9 P) y9 F1 }organizations as well as the media and build strategic relationships with$ m! u4 D+ f2 r) L

participation of ethnocultural communities with the larger Canadian society

with groups and communities with culturally, ethnically and linguistically ?( Z( H2 Q- T) v7 Y6 p% O* T

1. Maintain an adequate bookkeeping and accounting system; provide for its, z: L. }7 @$ f
regular examination by competent outside auditors, selected by the board of7 R0 u5 R& V# k) H
directors, and at the regular annual meeting, present a statement to the
! B* @6 [* O3 Y9 g- D) b, qmembers of the Coalition’s financial condition.
& s4 y9 c/ V. T9 M- p4 o2. Recruits and hires staff for programs and other initiatives of the! t* ~& ^8 D t& c6 k

Relationship of the Coordinator to the Board
+ J8 r* j9 |, [$ F* v: gAll operating decisions, employing and supervising personnel, choosing ways to
& J, O8 c8 ]/ qimplement policies, planning the Coalition’s day-to-day activities, and coordinating
! U. q3 w/ t8 a0 A7 i$ M3 eoperations are a part of the Coordinator’s responsibility.# f" b& F( E% e7 ?* `, W [
The Coordinator shares some responsibilities jointly with the board, such as longrange planning. The Coordinator usually provides the initiative and then assists the board in decision-making. The purpose, future directions, broad basic policies, and
, F+ p! Z' f4 y5 |! Daims and objectives of the organizations are decided upon by this process. It should! S8 ]1 z) @5 q A
be noted that the board members make the policy decisions guided by membership+ F% C/ v: D N
participation and the Coordinator should confine his or her activities to helping and3 h0 i# r: D% Z @) N
facilitating this process with the Board. The Coordinator attends all board of2 U3 r7 a' u) g
directors' meetings and make available a business report and a monthly financial3 Q- W9 b7 I9 C; P
statement as a minimum requirement. She/he brings to the board's attention all5 m# J% y0 Y2 i3 `' y
matters requiring board consideration and action. She/he confers with the board of
9 H3 O3 I) F4 a; z8 C- y* ydirectors on the development of new policies and appraises the effectiveness of

Pay Range & Terms
