Primary purpose: The Social Worker works in partnership with settlement workers or . _9 H. e7 b. ]. U* N1 Z1 j
community cultural brokers from New Canadian Health Network partner organizations to # `4 b9 A) c0 `6 N* S
provide supplemental support to newcomers who have complex needs. 0 e" N0 p c9 B: x: P! I
2 t& V5 Y8 F8 L Nature of Work: The Social Worker will report to the manager of mental health services.
. O0 U. t2 `% T: J5 u0 l' e- a; SThe position builds working relationships with New Canadian Health Network partners’ staff,
6 j/ C$ u' t. Onewcomers accessing these services and other institutions and service providers. The Social C, X+ Y) s0 O1 C4 V
Worker will assist in case planning, conferencing and providing support and advocacy as 3 Q: `1 V: P! F6 }$ R5 A+ _+ _: V v) z
needed. As required, the Social Worker will assist in accessing community supports for
4 q9 u S% t: p: N+ anewcomers and their families. The Social Worker provides holistic and flexible initial ! ]- R) W7 h. i: T, L, |
assessment of life circumstances, needs, goals and aspirations and adheres to the client-

Providing holistic information or advocacy services for immigrants and refugees served. 1 k: \- H4 I! m) K7 O
Developing of social networks and community supports for newcomer families. 5 i) _5 f7 M) N$ d6 |
Provide intake, needs assessment, referral, case plans and action plans to support + W& p0 M9 V/ S# A- n8 z6 R {. m+ w
newcomers in settling and fully participating in community. 4 _% }7 N8 B) J* {) n& ?# h
Work in partnership with settlement workers or cultural brokers to provide supplemental

Advocate on newcomers’ behalf to programs, institutions and service providers.

Qualification 4 F6 T, `+ V! F5 z6 R
( g" F% K G, ^$ v0 Y
Relevant undergraduate degree or diploma, or equivalent combination of education and 1 U" C( H* L( Z, g( r& w* n
experience in Social Work or related human service fields. 0 v& z% m4 \, Y; z6 M7 n
Extensive knowledge of community resources, including in depth understanding of family
# M& F" o* S7 c) {$ Dsupport needs ) ?& M3 C- H4 i$ M: |6 o
Experience/facility with MS Office computer applications 2 j3 V" k# s) `$ Y3 R+ f
Proficiency in both official languages is an asset, as is fluency in other languages 8 t2 n. t% J. ?5 _* L, Z
Possess a valid class 5 driver’s license and own a reliable vehicle with appropriate - N# Z4 v* G) `+ w4 d' Y
insurance coverage for work ( w2 g/ n" t# F% h1 F$ b. Q) c

Experience: Minimum of 3 years experience working in a related field 9 f) E- g) N. o8 M! R' q! P
