Primary purpose: The Social Worker works in partnership with settlement workers or ! }/ D/ G4 ~5 {
community cultural brokers from New Canadian Health Network partner organizations to ! U$ O% e l/ O
provide supplemental support to newcomers who have complex needs. / S" B, e. z, }' X' C9 c+ f
3 C+ ~3 O" s; s2 }& z Nature of Work: The Social Worker will report to the manager of mental health services. $ i8 p0 o5 H$ _5 V
The position builds working relationships with New Canadian Health Network partners’ staff,
0 o, z/ e% D4 b! R" |% \8 hnewcomers accessing these services and other institutions and service providers. The Social / U7 |: K- v! X; o' }- B
Worker will assist in case planning, conferencing and providing support and advocacy as
. M; \) f- C& ]# U: N) l: jneeded. As required, the Social Worker will assist in accessing community supports for * M% x7 ^/ Z& T# Z7 L' M$ l* D- a
newcomers and their families. The Social Worker provides holistic and flexible initial
0 Y% I# {/ d2 F' Y& H5 jassessment of life circumstances, needs, goals and aspirations and adheres to the client-
' c& q0 N" E9 g5 V0 p* ?+ T) {* g$ d! xcentered delivery model.

Developing of social networks and community supports for newcomer families.

Work in partnership with settlement workers or cultural brokers to provide supplemental ; `: y) f; L3 [

Advocate on newcomers’ behalf to programs, institutions and service providers. ) [' b' U5 s) d8 {& ]/ d# j
Treat all clients with dignity and patience in order to listen deeply and give thoughtful

Relevant undergraduate degree or diploma, or equivalent combination of education and : w1 b6 V1 s |9 m, X) |" V
experience in Social Work or related human service fields. / s4 B! b8 P' V% k
Extensive knowledge of community resources, including in depth understanding of family 4 b6 y( s* m# T2 f% I4 N) C

Experience/facility with MS Office computer applications 4 d% m- f2 @, X6 a2 g
Proficiency in both official languages is an asset, as is fluency in other languages
