Master Composter/Recycler Program / Free!( r! ?" `/ N$ J4 R/ I. D
City of Edmonton, Waste Management Branch

4 i; r; `7 ^0 g# CDear colleague: once a year, the Waste Management Branch hosts the, l; C3 I, R0 ~' O' D8 \* o
Master Composter-Recycler Program. Over a 3 weeks course schedule
$ d3 d6 r- }0 ]# p! s& x" W(Tues./Thursday evenings and Saturday) volunteers will learn about
2 S Y7 W4 O8 m: \: G8 H benvironmental stewardship in our city, such as: history of waste
2 t3 M' Z2 P3 L p( ymanagement; home composting; household hazardous waste;
# m" X, s4 G4 U2 ^1 e9 n2 z5 Overmin-composting and residential recycling.
+ ^' ]+ x+ C. ^# t7 `
# |7 X, D2 E8 v# i4 ^This course offers in-class instruction as well as several field trips1 y! D, O7 \, I5 h2 F2 Z
to various City facilities. After finishing the course, graduates: @9 U$ y2 l+ s. B# v
complete 35 hours of volunteer activity promoting the four R's:4 c. B/ }3 _; Y. s. Q. A
reduce, reuse, recycle and recover. Graduates become important+ z" a/ f, L1 H4 _5 R0 |
resources in their communities as they broaden awareness about the) \) {& c+ d4 B0 K5 J
importance of composting and recycling.% b `. I& G2 @% Q$ o( E( U; c
' }) e/ R7 o# C3 q+ b& `6 Q9 u
Examples of volunteer activities include: help with Reuse Fairs & the
" j' k3 B0 S M( D7 q3 eReuse Centre; helping friends/neighbours with composting problems;) I$ a4 F6 D9 k- d9 Q4 \9 w
public education display booths; assisting with programs and. o2 v! o( c6 w8 C, [& m* Z
maintenance at the City Compost Education Centres; assisting at
$ U2 r# w" e/ O" f( tvarious demonstration gardens and general public and school& l7 D7 ^; ], O8 l; Z8 Q; u5 ~& s8 |
presentations.

- a- a* ?% n7 x: HThere are many other opportunities for volunteers to contribute and
: G6 h+ h- @+ X3 {! D" i& o- `volunteers are able to choose the opportunities that interest them the

Course Dates: April 14 - May 2nd, 2009 -Tuesday and Thursday evenings
