Master Composter/Recycler Program / Free!

& ?$ _, j3 D# H2 F b! qDear colleague: once a year, the Waste Management Branch hosts the
; W' p+ o( [: E) }Master Composter-Recycler Program. Over a 3 weeks course schedule3 h8 c3 y1 B$ \( d0 N9 t
(Tues./Thursday evenings and Saturday) volunteers will learn about9 y6 H3 o3 k) ?* k
environmental stewardship in our city, such as: history of waste
x+ X- A' V |1 ~management; home composting; household hazardous waste;, {2 @, ^' d+ I" N
vermin-composting and residential recycling.
/ a# S, T5 p1 Y6 _" i+ K6 j0 [
9 c$ X7 E" U. y; d! N( kThis course offers in-class instruction as well as several field trips
" P) y# |1 R: y. x" _. m3 ]to various City facilities. After finishing the course, graduates% `, {! I7 G( N+ _( e8 z
complete 35 hours of volunteer activity promoting the four R's:2 y& n8 c) w5 a9 p+ ]+ m2 X
reduce, reuse, recycle and recover. Graduates become important
9 `4 p# V7 L9 }. k( Q& |% Dresources in their communities as they broaden awareness about the
9 O. T3 S, n$ h+ Gimportance of composting and recycling.6 N- K" n" O1 W
, w/ i) G0 W/ O. \
Examples of volunteer activities include: help with Reuse Fairs & the; L& z! W: U: ?' P
Reuse Centre; helping friends/neighbours with composting problems;( A" A- I( ?1 f. x2 q$ u6 n
public education display booths; assisting with programs and
: U4 Z" E; v$ M6 }' Omaintenance at the City Compost Education Centres; assisting at
1 f( M. u4 Y, s1 `& @4 a5 L0 fvarious demonstration gardens and general public and school8 w0 }$ I: O Y; P5 a1 v% ~
presentations.

V1 l& W) R" {0 z% Z) xThere are many other opportunities for volunteers to contribute and
4 J2 [5 U4 c. |; ^0 {( P2 Tvolunteers are able to choose the opportunities that interest them the
& @% ?5 s. K; t& R9 G* omost. Curious about recycling and composting and sharing your. ~5 B, b! M* R' e9 a0 L
knowledge with others, then apply to become a Master; c9 q/ i$ f& `* F8 b! C& y
