Master Composter/Recycler Program / Free!

9 R7 @9 }1 K2 O. s1 NDear colleague: once a year, the Waste Management Branch hosts the# E4 F. I1 C' q; ?" @1 ?
Master Composter-Recycler Program. Over a 3 weeks course schedule, ]& u* n. E1 v, }+ D( B, R+ |
(Tues./Thursday evenings and Saturday) volunteers will learn about
- |) p7 @0 b& K6 n) _2 ]% h' Cenvironmental stewardship in our city, such as: history of waste4 c! G. M8 B2 D" L* ?- T" u& ~
management; home composting; household hazardous waste;! N1 i5 x! s U) V, N; R: g* D1 I# F2 i
vermin-composting and residential recycling.
% D! n* C& M7 E1 r8 N' d1 C0 Q5 R. A5 b/ p: z& m- o8 \
This course offers in-class instruction as well as several field trips/ o0 `6 e0 d3 X4 K0 e, Y
to various City facilities. After finishing the course, graduates9 b" t& g8 K2 S
complete 35 hours of volunteer activity promoting the four R's:
% W2 I" z2 v/ B T/ yreduce, reuse, recycle and recover. Graduates become important: U0 M# J4 @9 n" I" N
resources in their communities as they broaden awareness about the
9 B* D# ?* W. h' ` }* p$ ?importance of composting and recycling.! l, v( `; ^! j7 v4 H* G
i3 h* h& d0 T2 N8 j6 N2 o5 I8 k
Examples of volunteer activities include: help with Reuse Fairs & the$ J$ Y; s* B& ]3 m" C2 j2 Z
Reuse Centre; helping friends/neighbours with composting problems;
2 a1 O; ~# S% w5 E5 R4 r/ I/ N) m7 Epublic education display booths; assisting with programs and
& Y# F) N* o9 k* J( z+ H, U5 `maintenance at the City Compost Education Centres; assisting at& Z- S6 _' r" Q. Q; @
various demonstration gardens and general public and school
. x7 w; m1 u7 ], M( C+ E1 dpresentations.- q, L: T, S) d4 P0 T7 }

There are many other opportunities for volunteers to contribute and1 ^% w6 `* U* j
volunteers are able to choose the opportunities that interest them the
; ^5 d2 e5 j+ Mmost. Curious about recycling and composting and sharing your
/ R- C7 q, i! y1 nknowledge with others, then apply to become a Master; \' c' g8 P: b2 y

Course Dates: April 14 - May 2nd, 2009 -Tuesday and Thursday evenings
