Edmonton police are investigating two killings from early Sunday morning, the city's 20th and 21st homicides of the year.

In the first incident, a 30-year-old man is dead in what police are calling a "gang motivated" shooting near Whitemud Drive, the Edmonton Police Service said in a press release., ]; u- B, R. g/ [$ g# ]$ z

At approximately 2:20 a.m. MT, the EPS responded to a call of shots fired at a silver Infiniti near a Whitemud Drive overpass at 170th Street.

The driver of the car was found dead at the scene.

One male passenger fled from the vehicle before police arrived, and reports indicate a small white car was seen fleeing the scene after the shots were fired." H9 v7 [% r( N k& @6 k- i

The circumstances leading up to the shooting are still under investigation, but police believe the incident is not random and is likely gang-related.

At approximately 2:45 a.m. MT, officers spotted a vehicle being driven the wrong way on Gateway Boulevard near Whyte Avenue.
( ]' M' I5 Y9 o3 m; V7 h& z) D; m. N. }/ [
Upon stopping the car, the officers learned that one of the passengers, a 24-year-old male, was seriously injured.

He was taken to hospital, where he died of his injuries.

1 n/ G8 y) `( ~' B% S2 FA police investigation revealed that the three male occupants of the vehicle had been involved in a physical altercation with two other males and a female near an alley south of Whyte Avenue, between Gateway Boulevard and Calgary Trail, which resulted in one male being stabbed.- X8 F' [7 t h4 j$ F8 k

The three suspects were located by police immediately following the vehicle stop. A 32-year-old male is in custody and charges are pending.
