7 k) r$ T8 w7 y9 `. o' WEDMONTON - Prices for new homes in Edmonton fell 5.3 per cent in July compared to the same month last year, marking the biggest year-over-year drop in 23 years, said Statistics Canada today.

Edmonton's cooling market showed the biggest year-over-year drop of any Canadian city.

Even heated Saskatoon posted a slower annual increase of 13.1 per cent, "further confirmation of a trend of deceleration in this city. Many builders reported increased prices as a result of higher material and labour costs," the agency said.3 h: m# U% l( v$ q) g: R- {6 l
~" q y7 o& S \The fastest pace was in Regina, which saw a year-over-year price increase of 29.6 per cent, down from its record rise of 34 per cent in April.0 m3 w% @6 Z1 S" A
$ _# s f `7 m. T: {1 T) K" z1 CAs the market continued to cool in Western Canada, prices for new homes rose nationally at a slower pace in July for the sixth consecutive month.

+ p: M: K5 k& P( o9 {* XPrices were up 2.7 per cent in July from a year earlier, down from June's annual pace of 3.5 per cent. On a monthly basis, prices edged up 0.1 per cent between June and July.8 B- C8 N. w! h
