Duties

9 l" P) ?/ ?8 q* H- L0 W    * Develops, implements, monitors, and evaluates programs and services to address the unique educational and social needs of lesbian, gay, bisexual, trans-identified,two-spirited and queer (LGBTTQ) youth in the Edmonton region
    * Develops and delivers community-based programming and provides support services for Youth Understanding Youth, Edmonton's sexual minority community youth group
    * Trains,motivates and supports volunteer adult facilitators
    * Acts as a resource on LGBTTQ youth issues for Institute staff, community, and governmental organizations
% C, f7 a' B  m0 F    * Provides interim quarterly reports and an overall annual productivity report and evaluation to the Assistant Director
    * Liaises with the Assistant Director in budget planning and management; monitors project related expenses
8 q7 h) u/ I4 p& g% Y. ?4 `  A% w  b    * Advocates to meet the health, social and safety needs of LGBTTQ and questioning youth
    * Researches and develops a LGBTTQ youth mentoring program
    * Develops, implements and monitors a LGBTTQ youth risk and needs assessment
; r% e: r; D! C9 U2 G& Q) c    * Develops benchmarks to assist in the evaluation of YUY programming and outreach supports
" k% y/ @# N3 M0 L    * Develops promotional materials such as posters, brochures, and displays to promote the youth group and mentoring programs
* h3 v$ ?5 y/ x# }; ]    * Participates in the development of leadership training and educational programming at Camp fYrefly
    * Supports University of Alberta campus organizations for sexual minority students and gay-straight student alliances in local high schools and communities
    * Develops a communications and advertising strategy targeting community agencies, youth groups/programs, and schools

Qualifications

2 M, Q/ D: F% o* L1 @4 m7 ~2 A$ V    * Bachelor's degree in education, social work, psychology, or a related professional discipline
( B. r- f, t5 b* O    * Three to five years experience in community development with a particular emphasis on sexual minority youth
; Q  k+ Y' X4 a5 K    * Knowledge in adolescent development, health and sex education, violence prevention,suicide intervention, alcohol and substance abuse, HIV and STI prevention and harm reduction strategies
    * Experience in developing and providing youth-oriented programs
- v/ c* c$ g2 y; |/ o    * Demonstrated effectiveness in working with the LGBTTQ community
    * Fundraising skills an asset
    * Demonstrated experience in development of youth group programming, community outreach,volunteer management and training and conflict resolution skills
    * Outstanding group facilitation, training, and counselling skills
    * Proven leadership, and strong team, and relationship building skills
    * Excellent communication (oral, written, and web-based), organizational and interpersonal skills
    * Understanding of other languages and experiences working within Aboriginal and ethnocultural communities an asset
