& U: w2 s" u- H0 I; \% ^3 K5 e2 wThe Edmonton Mennonite Centre for Newcomers requires a fulltime Settlement Practitioner to deliver settlement services for Temporary Foreign Workers in the Edmonton region. This is a term position to March 31, 2010.

The project will focus on the following aspects of newcomers settlement services:) [. D/ w+ @0 h7 {# r
• Marketing and outreach to industry and workers
: M* F1 b& o0 G6 e0 K7 O+ r. M$ ^• Outreach delivery of “orientation, information and referral services”7 z( [4 U. P; M- h/ o, n
• Centre-based delivery of “orientation, information and referral services”
- c2 U, Y4 [' n, K• Interpretation and translation services

Position Description:
, L& l* [* K+ I+ ]The Settlement Practitioner will be a front line practitioner, providing settlement+ ~ R5 t4 g! M% @2 H0 r# i5 \
guidance, information, orientation and referral services for Temporary Foreign3 y5 f; H% C# \: |8 H4 E) @
Workers, including matters of employment, housing, language, immigration and; A0 r$ Y/ A, r
supportive counselling by telephone, emails and in-person.

The Settlement Practitioner will also be required to deliver information and

$ f; J$ H: A$ T3 O1 W0 T• Provide a detailed needs assessment of TFW’s referred from EMCN staff,other service providers, industry employers, as well as self-referrals
/ V$ L1 p! w8 \' k% A, F) f5 x" t• Establish and maintain relationships between EMCN, other service providers and industries employing temporary foreign workers and promote settlement services at EMCN' P! |( l9 ^3 y; @6 z
• Maintain close relationships with the Temporary Foreign Worker Advisory Office
8 C! ?& G$ s6 s% I• Provide counselling to help temporary foreign workers adjust to Canadian life,make referrals when appropriate, develop needs assessment and action plans if required0 F% {* c2 N2 B9 E% Q
• Assist people to fill in application forms, prepare for meetings or appointments relating to settlement or employment' D c* k0 I/ v) F# W! W! k a
• Take clients to view apartments, open bank accounts, register for healthcare and become familiar with community services8 r7 Y$ q1 d2 r
• Assess and refer individuals experiencing critical or complex immigration and employment difficulties to appropriate service provider or government agency
7 E+ h) w. i1 X/ g/ s1 a. z• Facilitate and coordinate delivery of workshops related to settlement of TFW # y) u, u% B; L, Z& A
• Promote English language services for TFW and employers
6 ^' m# M' e' Y9 P% m8 P• Arrange interpretation and translation services as required
2 z; G% }( Z# q• Strengthen and build supports with community groups and volunteers
5 F; f. O4 m: @" a" k$ i, K• Provide service delivery duties as required Desired skills, education and experience:
+ j# Z9 I8 Z: G3 h• Minimum of 2 years of previous experience as a Settlement Practitioner in an intercultural/multicultural/cross-cultural context
0 k* D( d8 y2 R, u• Relevant post-secondary education in social science or human service area5 Q+ M2 u7 H& P" _+ Q
• Excellent written and oral communication skills
( f! ?+ D% D1 B, D• Strong commitment to providing quality services to newcomers and to working in an intercultural environment with cultural competence
8 g* {9 p$ v# @6 ^* W X# [• Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively in a team-based workplace, demonstrating flexibility in organizing work, showing initiative,judgment, resourcefulness, good decision-making
% ~5 \) z+ j/ O, g9 f6 X• Proficiency in English is essential, as is fluency in other languages8 B) ~0 R1 C c6 G2 ]7 R i) B
• Spanish language proficiency is an asset
