Duties/ v a: U1 [1 j# e. m4 I4 ?/ m
% v& ?! c5 X. L * Provides routine technical and administrative support for sample preparations and mineral separation for isotopic analysis/ c6 c5 x8 e% K; n) _ ^4 ?
* Conducts mineral separation, sample imaging, grant mount preparation, sample weighing and iron exchange chromatography; ~, N$ k: p2 T* ^% J8 E
* Provides training to graduate students, visiting scientists on preparation techniques
/ @; S' b& l% O3 L/ Y. V: T * Compiles analytical data using standard office software such as Excel, Word and Corel for use by the PI or client
, ~: u" v0 k+ O+ [ * Performs routine maintenance on equipment and lab husbandry
: U, y. r, ^5 P& R/ L * Orders supplies, maintains lab records, maintain WHMIS records and compliance labeling, maintains lab inventory and safe disposal of chemicals2 d% G2 i# j6 F
* Provides safety training to students, staff and visitors using the lab
# o j) h! Q+ i- N4 d * Provides administrative support by maintaining records, (usage and expenses) and prepares invoices
) o# \1 _ Z7 f+ Y# w * Assists with laser ablation analyses on the multi-collector inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometer (ICPMS)

Qualifications6 J4 ~& { P; H1 D- u
% i- R. P& C) r- ~3 {! m
* Post Secondary diploma in laboratory technology, Chemistry or Earth Sciences; BSc in Geology or Chemistry preferred
( A, c- y% U3 H; }; ]$ ?" z * 1-2 years experience working in a research environment (analytical chemistry lab or geochemical lab) r) Y3 Q2 w" |6 s+ \0 Z8 t
* Computer proficiency using MS Office applications and Corel
- M( }5 y; l( ?7 u. V# q * A thorough knowledge of lab safety protocols and WHMIS procedures
7 k- z, m3 T! }! S' |* G * Experience conducting routine maintenance on standard rock sample preparation equipment
