Duties

* Provides routine technical and administrative support for sample preparations and mineral separation for isotopic analysis
" l6 j+ G- j0 p$ b * Conducts mineral separation, sample imaging, grant mount preparation, sample weighing and iron exchange chromatography8 W) ]' _* I9 E+ g% o0 d
* Provides training to graduate students, visiting scientists on preparation techniques
. `7 N) h7 @' k: e) W. }6 E * Compiles analytical data using standard office software such as Excel, Word and Corel for use by the PI or client$ {& h3 |3 A+ l. {) `' V2 Q
* Performs routine maintenance on equipment and lab husbandry
! `# u, Z2 F6 t5 j }) M- U * Orders supplies, maintains lab records, maintain WHMIS records and compliance labeling, maintains lab inventory and safe disposal of chemicals5 z$ W' m3 j. _+ l- O
* Provides safety training to students, staff and visitors using the lab
7 h9 r5 M4 y3 N* t8 B( L5 n p * Provides administrative support by maintaining records, (usage and expenses) and prepares invoices2 F8 t: f9 \+ D: O0 G
* Assists with laser ablation analyses on the multi-collector inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometer (ICPMS)

7 D+ l8 H% C" mQualifications) T9 y8 Y4 [5 d# y# v
& K7 J- L) z$ q0 E$ v; Q * Post Secondary diploma in laboratory technology, Chemistry or Earth Sciences; BSc in Geology or Chemistry preferred$ G9 T$ e8 c/ A8 n4 R
* 1-2 years experience working in a research environment (analytical chemistry lab or geochemical lab)

* A thorough knowledge of lab safety protocols and WHMIS procedures1 C; _ k2 ^) b+ }5 A+ p
* Experience conducting routine maintenance on standard rock sample preparation equipment
