As part of the City of Edmonton's Newcomer Internship Program, we are seeking a highly motivated internationally trained Accountant to work as an intern for a period of 11 months. The objective of this program is to provide foreign trained professionals with meaningful Canadian work experience related to their qualifications, skills and experience. ' D8 D+ e* s* D* |6 U
' m2 ?2 p- w. I7 `Reporting to the Manager of Corporate Accountants Payable and Receivable, you will perform professional/senior technical accounting work involving control over processing and maintenance of complex and diverse accounts receivable and billing financial systems and records. This may include:
- c$ X, o' ?4 D7 J: c: |• Assisting in reviewing the overall accounting system and inter-related financial processes within a diversified accounting environment6 j/ {' c/ F* R0 l2 j1 [# ~& t
• Developing performance reports, including monthly billing and collection activity, customer profile, and specialized reports including year end financial statements
5 D$ [8 }' o0 X, o4 d9 C- ?; _4 w• Providing technical and professional advice and assistance to business are officials in matters of financial policies and procedures under the shared services delivery module
" Y4 S2 y1 `1 s# k• Performing complex trend analysis, transactional analysis and reconciliation's2 W# y% e! A: ^
• Applying a high level of analysis in providing value added AP/AR services and recommendations to customers 2 ^7 J/ q: h* i. ]* d8 l$ E8 t; v
Job Requirements: 6 a+ ^' x- h! u/ K6 D
• University degree obtained outside of Canada (bachelor or applied) in an accounting-related discipline
1 f5 G0 N$ r. @( l+ R' n• Working towards a Canadian accounting designation (CGA, CMA, CA) would be considered an asset
& c4 Z4 p9 ]9 n1 a• Three (3) years of progressively responsible international accounting experience1 K5 E4 O5 C- g) Z6 u
• A basic working knowledge of Corporate Financial Systems% d8 ]- f8 I5 O; ?+ @" n
• Demonstrated competency in the use of Microsoft Office applications and spreadsheets
! z* r# {5 G1 \0 Y; q% _• Demonstrated ability to deal courteously with the public and make decisions within established policies; A- v: x W% n# a P& ?/ z
• A basic knowledge of accounting, administrative procedures and regulations including GAAP and GST, m9 y. G* _0 \8 o! I+ q
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills

Hours of work may be subject to the terms and conditions of a variable hours of work program.
