This is a temporary position for approximately 11 months.  Applicants must be eligible to work in Canada at the time of their application.$ k, H: l% b6 @% `6 d

As part of the City of Edmonton's Newcomer Internship Program, we are seeking a highly motivated internationally trained Accountant to work as an intern for a period of 11 months.  The objective of this program is to provide foreign trained professionals with meaningful Canadian work experience related to their qualifications, skills and experience. 8 t7 I- S# ^3 k) M

" B% g' b& @) u. ~$ EReporting to the Manager of Corporate Accountants Payable and Receivable, you will perform professional/senior technical accounting work involving control over processing and maintenance of complex and diverse accounts receivable and billing financial systems and records.  This may include:5 ]) F2 [: e1 {; g- _
•        Assisting in reviewing the overall accounting system and inter-related financial processes within a diversified accounting environment
+ X: A7 W, r$ e6 \" S' g# k  N•        Developing performance reports, including monthly billing and collection activity, customer profile, and specialized reports including year end financial statements
, Q0 a+ B" X# ^  I9 U: f6 I6 O. z% X•        Providing technical and professional advice and assistance to business are officials in matters of financial policies and procedures under the shared services delivery module8 M1 O- W- E) n# b
•        Performing complex trend analysis, transactional analysis and reconciliation's/ D* w, {: w# j- ?/ A7 `
•        Applying a high level of analysis in providing value added AP/AR services and recommendations to customers

. i% p6 y$ Q' Y! i( @+ H+ E  s( y•        University degree obtained outside of Canada (bachelor or applied) in an accounting-related discipline
2 r! n( Z3 ^; W/ o& }/ g& C; @0 x5 h•        Working towards a Canadian accounting designation (CGA, CMA, CA) would be considered an asset# o' H' O# [6 O$ Q
•        Three (3) years of progressively responsible international accounting experience
+ ~/ H, V8 K2 Y3 {  V$ r" y•        A basic working knowledge of Corporate Financial Systems
2 u4 _+ B3 }+ o( L  W  x* K" b•        Demonstrated competency in the use of Microsoft Office applications and spreadsheets6 z4 d2 p7 c# P( V
•        Demonstrated ability to deal courteously with the public and make decisions within established policies
- D: a* T! _3 X9 v•        A basic knowledge of accounting, administrative procedures and regulations including GAAP and GST
" c/ @4 H! U' i$ @% b0 D$ B& O- X•        Excellent verbal and written communication skills
" x6 S- f7 i& j# v# z( {4 T8 DHours of Work:  33.75 hours per week, Monday - Friday.
