The Advanced Materials business unit seeks a Safety Assistant to assist the business unit over the summer months. & M3 N# y2 R$ d. O

1. Chemical list and Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS’s)) ]" }! ~; _, N) B. y! b
• help complete up-to-date chemical lists for all laboratories within the department
* F7 _) l, K" S7 z( n• collect and obtain MSDS’s for all chemicals
4 n+ I& L' ^( ~1 S Q3 K• make sure all chemicals are properly labelled and stored
% M6 U) o4 s! X3 U0 m• proper disposal of all unwanted chemicals
" V$ d$ W$ G4 D7 \1 Y• finalize chemical lists and then duplicate and label all MSDS’s for distribution to OH&S for the MSDS on line system./ l7 g2 I/ K5 F6 Y, \
- j8 j5 q! c: G) V, i5 m6 L6 B2. Standard Operation Procedures (SOP’s) and Hazard Assessments (HA’s)" m2 ^9 |, L. j; q9 [
• help update the department SOP’s and HA’s. This will include verification of existing SOP’s and HA’s and tracking any that are needed.

• help develop a tracking system for adding or removal of chemicals as well as continual updating and verification of SOP’s and HA’s 4 q( E* K+ K+ q, c4 o4 I& D8 \

Candidates should be inquisitive, thorough, and willing to learn. Some education and/or experience in safety is preferred. Strong communication and interpersonal skills and the ability to work independently as well as in a team environment are required.

This is a two-month summer position, preferably commencing the middle of June, which will pay an hourly wage commensurate with education and experience. Final candidates will be asked to undergo a security screening.6 O: m4 z: J2 q* Q
