8 J9 V9 E* K7 Sbring 12 (per intake) at-risk youth together into a unique 20 week group-based
. v q1 F! C2 G; m- Y; `( Uemployability skills program entitled “The VERTO Project”; 16 weeks of day
9 E! ` ?5 q! P- bprogram and 4 weeks of employment exposure. YOUCAN is an acronym that
- A7 j1 | b9 \- dstands for Youth Organizing to Understand Conflict and Advocate Non-Violence.% M4 ^; P9 [8 z- u" c! ~( [
YOUCAN has served youth in the Edmonton area for almost six years and our
1 i7 q p0 h0 q9 J, ?( H9 emission is to equip youth to engage and inspire others to peacefully resolve
2 P; z, C+ g( U, d# P: G: nconflicts and develop healthy relationships in their communities. The goal of the/ }- R" [, `- r7 o
VERTO Program is to assist participants in obtaining and maintaining the skills3 F9 e% X- _, i+ e( c( T/ E
necessary to bring success into their lives. The program is designed to serve
4 y2 o8 a4 ^5 B& a& k5 L# cyouth who have been involved in the justice system. The program will expose
b" p; P$ N, ~ w' Zparticipants to a wide range of components focusing on: employment
/ p5 D3 M% j0 U9 Edevelopment, personal wellness, technology learning, conflict resolution and i. f4 u! D. m8 Q, i& Q
exposure courses. Additionally, we will incorporate topics around health and" n; A" u( }% Y d5 Z: J; ^" f8 L
wellness, volunteerism and leadership courses. The youth will be provided with a7 Y7 C+ G8 E4 y/ o1 [
6-month employment follow-up once the program is completed.
J0 _8 Q+ Q; u: xThe project will run from 9:30-4:00 p.m., Monday through Friday at the Central
9 `: w k- i! Q' X' jYOUCAN office, located at 8718-112 Avenue in Edmonton, Alberta.
4 P5 Y" n% P5 `The following position is a one-year contract with the possibility of

Employment Developer: 1 Full-Time Position (40hrs/week)9 }2 }! {* [7 K; D' O/ \
• Responsible for building relationships with employers within the
% h: p! e0 F# ?& I4 P6 [8 Ccommunity to partner with YOUCAN to ensure there are employers that are) P1 R/ ^# a+ n. ?( j' n4 X1 j( A
willing to expose youth to the current employment opportunities
: b) }9 E# D/ m3 U' K• Ensure the youth action plans are reflecting the employment goals as
0 v. q# h1 v* A2 N ?being realistic to each youth participant
" H' f2 X8 S5 K9 w) L• Work with the youth to find the appropriate training needed to equip the
3 ]7 L. ]8 D0 Wyouth with the necessary skills needed to find the employment suitable to# h3 u$ W! S" h# T! o2 J& `
each participant' _0 b% @ B* [# B' U
• Assist youth with employment development including the development of8 D5 P% _9 s: U: S: L/ _3 \* G
cover letters and resumes etc.# U2 q6 y! X) E& @8 I% W0 X
• Coordinate the employment exposure component and on site work7 F* f3 O: @ k1 r! `# i
experience of the project, and monitor the progress of each youth at the; S% T i' k5 `" o2 i
placements
& f. o4 Q/ T) E1 a) r9 w• Conduct the 6 month follow up process for each of the youth, evaluating: B8 K2 J& |: S- |2 G7 Z% h
the process, and supporting the youth where needed. V# g: E3 Z, M5 l5 F- Q# {
• Work closely with staff of the Verto Project to ensure the holistic approach
- a7 @0 T6 z1 S" yis being fulfilled for each youth* {6 m0 q6 \7 H2 c+ q
• Administrative tasks, such as phone, fax, filing, copying, etc. that are
: f. g7 n( A7 b/ X: m8 z4 L% [* V7 Lrelated to YOUCAN’s Verto Project
: M2 y' V. ^& G• Other tasks as they arise within the position

$ c8 a- ]$ f! S8 c Post-secondary education or 3 years related experience accepted
( B8 P$ j9 X7 H! v2 d' i2 F A minimum of three years relevant experience is required.
