% x5 {: [' ~3 PThe YOUCAN VERTO Project is a Government of Canada funded project that will
( }. z0 h5 ^) y' Q7 ^( b; R' fbring 12 (per intake) at-risk youth together into a unique 20 week group-based
1 ?8 N3 B0 M9 c6 P; e1 @2 iemployability skills program entitled “The VERTO Project”; 16 weeks of day4 f3 v& g: M. ^' V. H8 o
program and 4 weeks of employment exposure. YOUCAN is an acronym that4 @) ^- U1 g* y
stands for Youth Organizing to Understand Conflict and Advocate Non-Violence.
, u" [- s0 c2 qYOUCAN has served youth in the Edmonton area for almost six years and our
' l8 |* ~" t5 L4 s- h1 |% ]mission is to equip youth to engage and inspire others to peacefully resolve
* c8 ?8 i% W" k; Pconflicts and develop healthy relationships in their communities. The goal of the
4 n+ Q' D; \1 vVERTO Program is to assist participants in obtaining and maintaining the skills
6 [8 R/ n+ \1 I& unecessary to bring success into their lives. The program is designed to serve' Q# `0 l- j B# X( ~
youth who have been involved in the justice system. The program will expose1 V5 |) n; h. R: y' Q6 ~
participants to a wide range of components focusing on: employment, s" a6 H' c l
development, personal wellness, technology learning, conflict resolution and
) c7 x4 ^5 q5 g9 Lexposure courses. Additionally, we will incorporate topics around health and$ g' W6 S. C& z
wellness, volunteerism and leadership courses. The youth will be provided with a
! v0 `: {' J, J6 K6-month employment follow-up once the program is completed.. ~9 _5 C2 [( q& E0 w
The project will run from 9:30-4:00 p.m., Monday through Friday at the Central
# y3 M& Y1 ?1 U* X) v) N/ wYOUCAN office, located at 8718-112 Avenue in Edmonton, Alberta.: \; n% D. w% Q/ `# U& L
The following position is a one-year contract with the possibility of

Employment Developer: 1 Full-Time Position (40hrs/week)
7 H" _7 n( T% J! r R' Q* {: H- C$ l, f• Responsible for building relationships with employers within the7 ^% i" @2 O. C7 D+ L
community to partner with YOUCAN to ensure there are employers that are
7 i7 ?: O& M: L# L9 O2 k8 swilling to expose youth to the current employment opportunities
9 a" |( T7 ^4 W) v% M; N3 j• Ensure the youth action plans are reflecting the employment goals as/ B- e4 E( `$ w3 Y4 A( m) H
being realistic to each youth participant
* J# b6 I2 f! j. q• Work with the youth to find the appropriate training needed to equip the
8 X0 l; Y" n2 u% Tyouth with the necessary skills needed to find the employment suitable to6 K8 D- z+ |/ |6 x9 G2 b9 a
each participant" p; Q& O! ]! y3 H
• Assist youth with employment development including the development of
* Z G' J, r" K% h* o* `# g' a( k9 Hcover letters and resumes etc.
1 R( Y. Q% g9 v$ T' B' I& C8 ]# H• Coordinate the employment exposure component and on site work
9 N1 O% c; ]6 X6 O' z! Kexperience of the project, and monitor the progress of each youth at the
6 c# F h# n4 ^; `- G5 U% L" cplacements" B6 D/ `4 W, C) d
• Conduct the 6 month follow up process for each of the youth, evaluating/ C1 t: I8 r8 I K5 W
the process, and supporting the youth where needed
) s- p. t4 C) ~% \; a3 Q• Work closely with staff of the Verto Project to ensure the holistic approach
# W8 E* s/ K* n. k) wis being fulfilled for each youth
2 \5 C7 {8 b: |! C. p+ s• Administrative tasks, such as phone, fax, filing, copying, etc. that are# m: q7 v# Z8 d. |" s9 R7 o
related to YOUCAN’s Verto Project

Experience Required: Employment Developer2 `) k! A2 u0 Q4 z
 Post-secondary education or 3 years related experience accepted
8 ]2 _$ E, `7 ~' r8 [3 v. J A minimum of three years relevant experience is required.( y6 z" c( F4 s: n, c: N
 Enthusiastic and energetic innovator who is process-oriented and committed

 Strong interpersonal and leadership skills.) D' l6 X8 h6 Z; r+ i
 Excellent written and verbal communication, presentation, organizational and

 Strong connections with industry, or the ability to make those connections
' G8 |' v; I) Z2 K$ c$ B, Xquickly( ^5 w9 Q, M7 O8 S4 A9 m
 Strong skills in building relationships with industry and youth
! Z2 J$ E! I, S! G7 M Experience working with youth at risk, and able to assess the needs of youth1 P" u5 s3 F8 ^. |( Q
at risk as it pertains to employment
2 K; H" \$ W( \ Skilled in software applications, computers and other office equipment3 I+ k( P$ p9 i! M; }/ N% |% a7 w
 Strong leadership and active listening skills8 f0 a0 N$ @2 Z
