The VERTO Project

bring 12 (per intake) at-risk youth together into a unique 20 week group-based6 c# P1 t' r5 u/ b! y. K8 t
employability skills program entitled “The VERTO Project”; 16 weeks of day
+ u( b# ~/ w+ x; B% _. V3 hprogram and 4 weeks of employment exposure. YOUCAN is an acronym that9 ^* v5 n9 n$ M) R
stands for Youth Organizing to Understand Conflict and Advocate Non-Violence.3 w& {8 ]3 D. }5 i6 g
YOUCAN has served youth in the Edmonton area for almost six years and our3 o* v& z7 O6 d4 S4 T, X8 |0 y
mission is to equip youth to engage and inspire others to peacefully resolve
8 ~1 I" @$ V: s' Nconflicts and develop healthy relationships in their communities. The goal of the1 Y" f J! m1 F
VERTO Program is to assist participants in obtaining and maintaining the skills! u) s8 i. M& Q" h
necessary to bring success into their lives. The program is designed to serve
3 V+ h9 T3 Z8 F; j* P3 K! @youth who have been involved in the justice system. The program will expose
- D0 d& d: p' j: o! Q4 e- Tparticipants to a wide range of components focusing on: employment
6 ^3 o+ x6 q# A. R# n) v* @development, personal wellness, technology learning, conflict resolution and
' s! u- r9 T! z) F) J& b1 u |exposure courses. Additionally, we will incorporate topics around health and& z1 L9 \5 o& [
wellness, volunteerism and leadership courses. The youth will be provided with a4 L6 c. R1 Z+ r+ g" g L* z
6-month employment follow-up once the program is completed.( F. I( d* d/ x/ o2 p& Z
The project will run from 9:30-4:00 p.m., Monday through Friday at the Central1 N6 a) P; R+ L& H2 r9 i3 d! z/ q
YOUCAN office, located at 8718-112 Avenue in Edmonton, Alberta. U5 @8 v9 i3 T- i/ e
The following position is a one-year contract with the possibility of

Employment Developer: 1 Full-Time Position (40hrs/week)
6 e$ ^4 u+ o9 _7 K9 \• Responsible for building relationships with employers within the
/ q7 K4 Z7 m2 M: u8 Y8 Ccommunity to partner with YOUCAN to ensure there are employers that are
6 |3 k. b! X: e' D$ G1 Z$ }' S! ~willing to expose youth to the current employment opportunities* d) o% K7 O, h6 J' D1 h- E
• Ensure the youth action plans are reflecting the employment goals as
1 l5 T! V7 w) ybeing realistic to each youth participant
& X1 Q1 B, i) t7 C. G1 L0 l& U- q: e• Work with the youth to find the appropriate training needed to equip the3 f3 R9 }: g# z; d' a
youth with the necessary skills needed to find the employment suitable to
6 F4 H# A& V: \5 Y" {) |each participant; o9 o8 D, i" g! y3 Q M
• Assist youth with employment development including the development of, F2 V7 I) K& U3 N3 k) K& C
cover letters and resumes etc.$ U9 j; h7 a4 Y, F$ A9 F
• Coordinate the employment exposure component and on site work
! f# \ `. |) T; o7 M+ Z% r5 M9 cexperience of the project, and monitor the progress of each youth at the/ m( q# i* P& e j% v5 L( ~
placements9 M" x, R+ Z4 u( m8 q- o5 U
• Conduct the 6 month follow up process for each of the youth, evaluating( s m6 V9 k% d: f: c. w
the process, and supporting the youth where needed
8 P: ~& N7 S5 {) e• Work closely with staff of the Verto Project to ensure the holistic approach }1 ]. F" b& M- e% l0 L
is being fulfilled for each youth
K m1 v! ?) B% s3 M% Z• Administrative tasks, such as phone, fax, filing, copying, etc. that are
) N! v5 o- |/ I+ @% Y2 G. Y) T- zrelated to YOUCAN’s Verto Project

Experience Required: Employment Developer
" p4 e1 }" n4 l- W( X+ M2 k Post-secondary education or 3 years related experience accepted/ l% ~7 I3 b& c$ a2 x1 O
 A minimum of three years relevant experience is required.% t7 H8 k [" \! {) G) S

 Skilled in software applications, computers and other office equipment
