% v2 W6 {. g: o. I4 ^The YOUCAN VERTO Project is a Government of Canada funded project that will
4 M& K; y; e/ Z" g4 I/ ?bring 12 (per intake) at-risk youth together into a unique 20 week group-based
( h* ~6 j/ L* A2 n) l- p$ ?employability skills program entitled “The VERTO Project”; 16 weeks of day! E i, _5 c8 D3 y
program and 4 weeks of employment exposure. YOUCAN is an acronym that
" \. s* m4 W8 vstands for Youth Organizing to Understand Conflict and Advocate Non-Violence.
% E9 X- g6 K1 h z! i" K" AYOUCAN has served youth in the Edmonton area for almost six years and our+ S2 }* |8 K2 q: _5 P' y- j
mission is to equip youth to engage and inspire others to peacefully resolve8 @, v3 e0 m/ u" e+ b! Q
conflicts and develop healthy relationships in their communities. The goal of the
. }2 d4 N* o7 s9 UVERTO Program is to assist participants in obtaining and maintaining the skills
6 W& s* g% k! F+ `' Q ?necessary to bring success into their lives. The program is designed to serve' k0 l8 X3 S1 |7 {4 j) w
youth who have been involved in the justice system. The program will expose
( c3 \& O* [; e8 _: l; Lparticipants to a wide range of components focusing on: employment
* A1 }$ A% I7 adevelopment, personal wellness, technology learning, conflict resolution and. \3 j* B* v7 M% I+ q
exposure courses. Additionally, we will incorporate topics around health and7 V; x2 L, h: a; x: o
wellness, volunteerism and leadership courses. The youth will be provided with a
: `) F. g6 E( u4 [0 ~) ~) r) F6-month employment follow-up once the program is completed.) t9 v/ z6 I% N( E7 ?& z0 o
The project will run from 9:30-4:00 p.m., Monday through Friday at the Central
0 M2 Y& I- ~4 E/ Y8 ~YOUCAN office, located at 8718-112 Avenue in Edmonton, Alberta.' k' r7 q5 R9 I4 O
The following position is a one-year contract with the possibility of3 u/ {. ~' g0 ]9 F4 `$ b

• Responsible for building relationships with employers within the
5 T& N" f# a3 f2 w& G; ^community to partner with YOUCAN to ensure there are employers that are
. |& P9 C& g% Nwilling to expose youth to the current employment opportunities* `% f- Y: }6 R9 u# P3 F6 y
• Ensure the youth action plans are reflecting the employment goals as# X! Q( J0 J! h! T
being realistic to each youth participant. f+ J A$ @- u9 W
• Work with the youth to find the appropriate training needed to equip the
; ~, Q8 \. o2 s( q; s- lyouth with the necessary skills needed to find the employment suitable to E$ d2 w* p8 I
each participant9 Y7 A6 w! M/ F! p3 R% W0 G& N
• Assist youth with employment development including the development of1 n. b0 `" M+ W& b/ C
cover letters and resumes etc.
4 d* b' [. ~, I7 }' ~• Coordinate the employment exposure component and on site work+ a/ x9 h! c7 P n
experience of the project, and monitor the progress of each youth at the
% }5 x: J! o7 f5 g! bplacements: h% e& I. o6 x6 c
• Conduct the 6 month follow up process for each of the youth, evaluating2 f$ |2 T* h/ t
the process, and supporting the youth where needed- B4 n8 H; ]6 N
• Work closely with staff of the Verto Project to ensure the holistic approach, T2 }* S$ D8 k+ k4 ?/ E
is being fulfilled for each youth
- Y' C4 y( f, s: j• Administrative tasks, such as phone, fax, filing, copying, etc. that are
1 d& Z$ e! Y) yrelated to YOUCAN’s Verto Project4 q8 a5 J- _% }8 _2 I6 L
• Other tasks as they arise within the position8 ^, a/ G! P/ Q) `4 q' t
Experience Required: Employment Developer# h9 I/ U0 h9 v7 v
 Post-secondary education or 3 years related experience accepted& A4 \0 P6 }6 g, O
 A minimum of three years relevant experience is required.
