What activities will I do during my road test?

The road test is about 25 to 30 minutes long, including instructions and feedback.6 Z, Y6 C( t' l4 J
You are required to know and demonstrate:6 H# H, F( c" d- n
· how to identify and operate the vehicle controls

! U, @7 e& [" t0 }7 z· school and/or playground zone times and speed limits
8 o5 J7 e% H5 k1 Y. o& B6 S7 e· how to parallel park

+ q" C [! d$ Y5 f· proper lane changing
5 @" B& Y% F1 U1 J' _$ \+ ~4 J· how to manage controlled and uncontrolled intersections

The road test will run the full time unless the Examiner feels that your safety, or the safety of others, is at risk.5 f- N+ B0 u. T9 _1 M4 {3 s. r
For example, if you do not show good judgment of time and distance when turning left in front of oncoming traffic,

Who is my Examiner?

* i: u; W" e u3 c5 n: m· The Examiner will introduce him/herself and provide proof of identification, when requested.
7 Q$ v8 @3 @9 O- S( u· All Driver Examiners are licensed by Alberta Infrastructure and Transportation under the Driver Training8 A2 c# \3 r/ B% r
and Driver Examination Regulation. They are monitored to ensure they provide high quality road
- D$ \4 X3 v. M7 @$ e: [tests. They should be courteous and professional, keeping conversation at all times relevant to the
$ y% Y* [, S0 w5 sroad test.

5 a! q3 U2 G$ B3 r7 @# f· You must have your Learner’s licence. If you have a temporary licence (non-photo): F4 f- s; F9 ]& L
then you must also provide acceptable photo ID.
4 o" {) @# j7 Q$ u+ U$ o" g3 Y· Wear clothing that is practical for driving and comfort. It should be appropriate for the' H' _# p. o# l" o" U" Q" p7 M
weather conditions (in case your vehicle breaks down and you have to wait or walk).1 c" v( N4 @2 h. W8 b* \
· Your vehicle must meet all legal requirements (good mechanical condition, valid; H- t" q/ }4 `. ?% j( [, O
insurance and registration) and have enough fuel for at least one hour of driving.4 @/ b" X; M" u4 H! b4 p1 i
· Payment for the test must be made directly to the Examiner or Registry office.

assist in checking the signal and brake lights, horn, brakes, and steering. You will be asked to describe and
5 _. _0 a; p9 Y% cdemonstrate two of the instruments or controls inside the vehicle, such as the hazard lights and windshield
% ?( D) c/ g; k4 H( }' S0 {3 Lwipers. The Examiner will provide information before you move the vehicle about the route and the instructions

· Points will be assigned for errors. You will be allowed a maximum of 75 points to pass the road test.
4 R; Y! J( o& |, [. G# XYou must not do anything that is considered unlawful, dangerous, or unsafe, (for example, speeding or not

· The Examiner will not try to trick you.

· When the road test is finished, the Examiner will highlight the areas you performed well, as well as

The Examiner will give you a copy of the Driver Examination Checklist form. You will also be given a copy of the' r+ ]8 F. d. Y' x
Test Permit. This will indicate that you have passed. Take this permit, along with your learner’s licence, to any& @2 J/ Z0 s% E
Alberta Registry Agent to have your licence changed to a Class 5 Probationary Licence. There will be a fee for this
