and most of the newly admitted students who applied for housing were 5 X- }8 ~) O3 c7 A
asked to look for a residence on open market.$ j- j& m3 }/ M. X+ A n" ^$ q

While the average cost of living for a typical graduate student has
! [, c0 h/ N" S; K9 U) hincreased by something more than 70% percent we are getting paid
+ x* B7 u' R6 f4 N8 Kexactly for the same amount of money that we were offered in our 5 Y3 w4 D! C5 W" i6 H
admission letter (18000 CAD + 1500 CAD for international students ) l' g4 T8 H0 s1 o( C
=19500CAD. What I get is something around 1000CAD/month!!! after : Y9 ?) j8 s9 J7 I
tuition fee and taxes). To make the argument easy to understand just % z r! O& F) H1 _4 A5 R! O
imagine that a new student gets the same amount of money that I am
/ w% U6 L$ B- K7 Fgetting now and I was getting 3 years ago but he or she (like all of
) \9 `1 \! h9 R" {us) has to pay twice as much as I was paying for housing when I was . d1 l0 y# }) Q. R1 n9 W- r
admitted and has to incur at least 70% more in average living costs.

Also have in mind that Alberta is a rich province and University of

; o- ~' D1 o9 O/ _9 }* L5 fespecially international students. Isn抰 it time for the GSA to take* H& ?% \. ]2 k1 N3 U
3 R5 W5 g7 e+ ?# ?& h0 k6 q, G
initiative in raising the issue of increasing financial aid for
# H' U/ D* D+ E Y. k' Y4 c" R2 igraduate students so that the can afford this increase in costs?9 f3 `/ R8 Y( |) `1 h
& I8 E K3 j; Y& H
