Edmonton Transit is currently seeking applications for the challenging position of Conventional Transit Operator — for positions starting in Summer 2007. This is a long term posting with the successful applicants being called to fill positions on an ‘as-required’ basis.: @2 C0 I$ L: O; H! l

•        Transport passengers to and from destinations on prescribed scheduled routes.
( V- d8 y) e, U( y•        Collect proper fare, issue transfers.
* k7 X( R. L- T$ A& H  ^( A•        Respond to customer queries concerning transit information./ p* x5 F9 Y6 p+ B( P9 ?
•        Operate a Transit diesel bus and/or trolley coach, on a day, night or split shift under varying weather " a1 H/ Z5 p; ]; t# F, ?6 y7 o5 h
and traffic conditions.

! O5 M7 X; e; q•        Obey and follow defensive driving guidelines, local traffic laws and Transit system regulations.

•        Grade eleven (11) or an equivalent educational level is required. Formal training in driving or public relations will be considered an asset.
' n& I/ p3 q9 N- R7 B- J/ ~! i•        Proven ability to deal directly with the public, with well-developed customer service skills; the ability
  V8 ~9 N. q$ N( L  }. M4 fto be diplomatic and courteous in dealing with the public, from the first passenger to the last passenger - e3 s& V! v% a5 y. [* V

•        Ability to meet the physical requirements of the job (operate bus controls, re-set trolley poles, provide passengers with assistance i.e. strollers, wheelchairs etc.).( e. u+ y4 ?  n* o# A2 w' r8 M! U! w
•        Applicant must possess a valid class 5 Alberta Motor Vehicle Operator's license (non-probationary and non-graduated) and must have held a valid operator's license for (3) consecutive years.5 I5 ~2 H: P5 S) z; ~/ Y* Z
•        Selected applicants must pass the Alberta Motor Vehicle Operator's class 2 written test, at their own expense, prior to training.6 J9 v- t6 ?/ J6 K9 `" S; \& H9 @
•        Applicant must provide a current driver's abstract (obtained within 14 days of the video test date)
3 a, q: ]& L6 Z8 d% [7 N9 Z" i8 eshowing no suspensions and no more than 3 demerits recorded over the previous 2 year period.   f6 ^+ h1 v0 @4 g7 a7 o
•        Ability to pass a written English comprehension test, a public relations video-test, a driving skill ) R, G1 }6 S$ K! }
video-test, a Functional Abilities Recruitment Evaluation (F.A.R.E.) test, a pre-employment City medical examination and a Police Security clearance (at their own expense, prior to training).
: F3 f$ ^7 z1 J/ a, t$ Z, L0 H4 h•        Successful completion of the ETS Training Program.6 k, `1 u/ f  t" Y. K: @* M
•        Internal ETS applicants must have completed all mandatory in-house training.4 b0 Z  _* Q7 W4 O9 X8 `, J, W

HOURS OF WORK:0 h! V% O5 h! c# Q' V
Various hours of shift work (straight or split shift), any time of the day, any 5 days of the week ) c" y" `, H3 Y% J) A  }  ~  G
1st year:  Guaranteed minimum 67.4 hours bi-weekly  [- l8 E' l4 R+ u/ E! U
Thereafter:  Guaranteed minimum 74 hours biweekly

SALARY RANGE:  401, Salary Grade: 004 ; z2 Q2 M. V1 ~+ f5 y
Training Rate:  $16.56 Hourly2 ]8 |4 ?9 K6 U2 G7 U
Post Training Rate:  $20.36 - $25.45 Hourly0 _$ b6 F6 j% v4 _- d, L4 b
The rates quoted are in accordance with a collective agreement between the Union and the City of Edmonton.
