! U) \( L9 z* i0 i! \& KEdmonton Transit is currently seeking applications for the challenging position of Conventional Transit Operator — for positions starting in Summer 2007. This is a long term posting with the successful applicants being called to fill positions on an ‘as-required’ basis.

FUNCTIONS:5 i+ [9 @' `5 Y; B0 B. Y1 b
• Transport passengers to and from destinations on prescribed scheduled routes.
" x: z+ }$ `, h* m2 X ]# Z/ j& I3 @• Collect proper fare, issue transfers.2 q& R O1 R# {4 g/ s
• Respond to customer queries concerning transit information.+ G& u4 n/ X' Y: n2 x
• Operate a Transit diesel bus and/or trolley coach, on a day, night or split shift under varying weather

JOB REQUIREMENTS:! v- m0 L6 e+ w! z) t* r8 c
• Grade eleven (11) or an equivalent educational level is required. Formal training in driving or public relations will be considered an asset.
5 b, S+ x; a( m! }( F( }• Proven ability to deal directly with the public, with well-developed customer service skills; the ability ( c Y; V i. c& X$ V1 c
to be diplomatic and courteous in dealing with the public, from the first passenger to the last passenger

% ^( f+ z2 z% z, I. W# Q) T• Ability to meet the physical requirements of the job (operate bus controls, re-set trolley poles, provide passengers with assistance i.e. strollers, wheelchairs etc.).
% a4 p$ j$ O) F5 D1 f2 [+ x+ E& w• Applicant must possess a valid class 5 Alberta Motor Vehicle Operator's license (non-probationary and non-graduated) and must have held a valid operator's license for (3) consecutive years.
' e- \0 \5 u& m; R6 y! E6 O" s( F• Selected applicants must pass the Alberta Motor Vehicle Operator's class 2 written test, at their own expense, prior to training.& |1 C* Y/ R/ R9 [4 n% b8 z
• Applicant must provide a current driver's abstract (obtained within 14 days of the video test date) ! M: L4 U/ m. i. u- G1 L3 |. N+ u
showing no suspensions and no more than 3 demerits recorded over the previous 2 year period. 6 T' L6 [: W" y; S! e
• Ability to pass a written English comprehension test, a public relations video-test, a driving skill 6 m8 U; n4 n2 M2 j5 _# N) m! g. s
video-test, a Functional Abilities Recruitment Evaluation (F.A.R.E.) test, a pre-employment City medical examination and a Police Security clearance (at their own expense, prior to training).( A% E1 f0 L! Y2 m
• Successful completion of the ETS Training Program.# O- G2 [, W+ j, Y2 P
• Internal ETS applicants must have completed all mandatory in-house training.

Various hours of shift work (straight or split shift), any time of the day, any 5 days of the week 9 `' c. m! k2 P4 D) O; Y
1st year: Guaranteed minimum 67.4 hours bi-weekly6 y$ N0 L! n* I/ K' d
Thereafter: Guaranteed minimum 74 hours biweekly

SALARY RANGE: 401, Salary Grade: 004
