4 e: _3 F+ x4 v+ l4 S2 tEdmonton Transit is currently seeking applications for the challenging position of Conventional Transit Operator — for positions starting in Summer 2007. This is a long term posting with the successful applicants being called to fill positions on an ‘as-required’ basis.

% M, s( N6 H, ]; [4 j•        Transport passengers to and from destinations on prescribed scheduled routes.
) S+ Y1 k( c! i& D/ a•        Collect proper fare, issue transfers.
  t; ]1 C$ {. q/ k•        Respond to customer queries concerning transit information.
$ i1 A  T0 V+ D$ G•        Operate a Transit diesel bus and/or trolley coach, on a day, night or split shift under varying weather

' T4 h) f, z7 x+ k& r•        Adhere to schedules.
8 Z! g1 T7 u$ }( i: G6 s& ~# v. @•        Obey and follow defensive driving guidelines, local traffic laws and Transit system regulations.

•        Handle diverse and challenging situations.

•        Provide excellent customer service.

JOB REQUIREMENTS:
; t1 @# o' L1 l* \; h% S•        Grade eleven (11) or an equivalent educational level is required. Formal training in driving or public relations will be considered an asset.
& T! K! @' Y/ f7 a1 I•        Proven ability to deal directly with the public, with well-developed customer service skills; the ability
to be diplomatic and courteous in dealing with the public, from the first passenger to the last passenger
: h9 C% A2 @* i. w$ ?8 lof the day.
, Z6 _9 A5 v( I$ M•        Ability to meet the physical requirements of the job (operate bus controls, re-set trolley poles, provide passengers with assistance i.e. strollers, wheelchairs etc.).
: I, Z$ P& {' ~  F" k! g•        Applicant must possess a valid class 5 Alberta Motor Vehicle Operator's license (non-probationary and non-graduated) and must have held a valid operator's license for (3) consecutive years.
•        Selected applicants must pass the Alberta Motor Vehicle Operator's class 2 written test, at their own expense, prior to training.
•        Applicant must provide a current driver's abstract (obtained within 14 days of the video test date)
0 W1 c( n5 C/ d# fshowing no suspensions and no more than 3 demerits recorded over the previous 2 year period.
•        Ability to pass a written English comprehension test, a public relations video-test, a driving skill
video-test, a Functional Abilities Recruitment Evaluation (F.A.R.E.) test, a pre-employment City medical examination and a Police Security clearance (at their own expense, prior to training).
3 S0 [- C! @( C•        Successful completion of the ETS Training Program.
•        Internal ETS applicants must have completed all mandatory in-house training.

HOURS OF WORK:
Various hours of shift work (straight or split shift), any time of the day, any 5 days of the week
1st year:  Guaranteed minimum 67.4 hours bi-weekly

Training Rate:  $16.56 Hourly
Post Training Rate:  $20.36 - $25.45 Hourly
