Edmonton Transit is currently seeking applications for the challenging position of Conventional Transit Operator — for positions starting in Summer 2007. This is a long term posting with the successful applicants being called to fill positions on an ‘as-required’ basis.

• Transport passengers to and from destinations on prescribed scheduled routes.
) ?0 K6 ?% E4 C% D3 G• Collect proper fare, issue transfers.
* e! u$ j& d0 D4 e, f• Respond to customer queries concerning transit information.
: {' v6 Z3 ]6 f" p2 y• Operate a Transit diesel bus and/or trolley coach, on a day, night or split shift under varying weather

• Adhere to schedules.
' t2 [4 s/ Q3 p; Q• Obey and follow defensive driving guidelines, local traffic laws and Transit system regulations. 7 Q( q0 A9 w' O/ ~
• Ensure the safety of all passengers.

• Communicate effectively in a variety of situations.

• Grade eleven (11) or an equivalent educational level is required. Formal training in driving or public relations will be considered an asset.

to be diplomatic and courteous in dealing with the public, from the first passenger to the last passenger . ~+ D% L0 V: I4 A- y

• Ability to meet the physical requirements of the job (operate bus controls, re-set trolley poles, provide passengers with assistance i.e. strollers, wheelchairs etc.).
3 q5 K5 L q, t4 I$ d9 T$ q• Applicant must possess a valid class 5 Alberta Motor Vehicle Operator's license (non-probationary and non-graduated) and must have held a valid operator's license for (3) consecutive years.

* I% J |; P/ t& Hshowing no suspensions and no more than 3 demerits recorded over the previous 2 year period. a2 M; |# e5 T, J3 \; V
• Ability to pass a written English comprehension test, a public relations video-test, a driving skill
7 b/ G _4 r. l' i6 zvideo-test, a Functional Abilities Recruitment Evaluation (F.A.R.E.) test, a pre-employment City medical examination and a Police Security clearance (at their own expense, prior to training).

• Internal ETS applicants must have completed all mandatory in-house training.

Various hours of shift work (straight or split shift), any time of the day, any 5 days of the week
