1 [: o$ E/ M8 [+ n+ lEdmonton Transit is currently seeking applications for the challenging position of Conventional Transit Operator — for positions starting in Summer 2007. This is a long term posting with the successful applicants being called to fill positions on an ‘as-required’ basis.

9 B7 v& F& O/ y0 d( hFUNCTIONS:
•        Transport passengers to and from destinations on prescribed scheduled routes.
3 c$ f! x& H8 X9 ?7 J0 E•        Collect proper fare, issue transfers.
•        Respond to customer queries concerning transit information.
7 R5 ]- @) T2 K# Y•        Operate a Transit diesel bus and/or trolley coach, on a day, night or split shift under varying weather
and traffic conditions.
8 f* Z5 \5 a3 c5 X! U  w3 \•        Adhere to schedules.
•        Obey and follow defensive driving guidelines, local traffic laws and Transit system regulations.
•        Ensure the safety of all passengers.
•        Handle diverse and challenging situations.

•        Provide excellent customer service.

JOB REQUIREMENTS:
% h8 U1 g8 L, D7 Y# s. o( U* o•        Grade eleven (11) or an equivalent educational level is required. Formal training in driving or public relations will be considered an asset.
•        Proven ability to deal directly with the public, with well-developed customer service skills; the ability
: ?# \7 f- S% o* m9 I6 n; G) `9 Hto be diplomatic and courteous in dealing with the public, from the first passenger to the last passenger
8 O% I0 l$ F1 Y4 Kof the day.
•        Ability to meet the physical requirements of the job (operate bus controls, re-set trolley poles, provide passengers with assistance i.e. strollers, wheelchairs etc.).
•        Applicant must possess a valid class 5 Alberta Motor Vehicle Operator's license (non-probationary and non-graduated) and must have held a valid operator's license for (3) consecutive years.
•        Selected applicants must pass the Alberta Motor Vehicle Operator's class 2 written test, at their own expense, prior to training.
•        Applicant must provide a current driver's abstract (obtained within 14 days of the video test date)
& O' h; b; C& k8 P8 K+ G  dshowing no suspensions and no more than 3 demerits recorded over the previous 2 year period.
•        Ability to pass a written English comprehension test, a public relations video-test, a driving skill
video-test, a Functional Abilities Recruitment Evaluation (F.A.R.E.) test, a pre-employment City medical examination and a Police Security clearance (at their own expense, prior to training).
•        Successful completion of the ETS Training Program.

3 a8 y6 x( ~$ C: o6 V) P  P. l% w3 s3 jVarious hours of shift work (straight or split shift), any time of the day, any 5 days of the week
& x% I# m: D6 h5 i7 V1st year:  Guaranteed minimum 67.4 hours bi-weekly
' A5 ?$ ^4 T9 J7 U. a$ v3 T3 C7 j' @Thereafter:  Guaranteed minimum 74 hours biweekly

$ y6 [3 \4 V6 L% `5 F& pSALARY RANGE:  401, Salary Grade: 004
Training Rate:  $16.56 Hourly
Post Training Rate:  $20.36 - $25.45 Hourly
The rates quoted are in accordance with a collective agreement between the Union and the City of Edmonton.
