Edmonton Transit is currently seeking applications for the challenging position of Conventional Transit Operator — for positions starting in Summer 2007. This is a long term posting with the successful applicants being called to fill positions on an ‘as-required’ basis.

1 m& N6 M& \+ X: h& l5 ~FUNCTIONS:
2 w% _: ~9 k/ n4 B" ~6 O+ {: i•        Transport passengers to and from destinations on prescribed scheduled routes.
•        Collect proper fare, issue transfers.
•        Respond to customer queries concerning transit information.
•        Operate a Transit diesel bus and/or trolley coach, on a day, night or split shift under varying weather
and traffic conditions.
•        Adhere to schedules.
•        Obey and follow defensive driving guidelines, local traffic laws and Transit system regulations.

•        Handle diverse and challenging situations.
•        Communicate effectively in a variety of situations.
•        Provide excellent customer service.

JOB REQUIREMENTS:
+ P8 n+ T; {6 h$ j( `•        Grade eleven (11) or an equivalent educational level is required. Formal training in driving or public relations will be considered an asset.
•        Proven ability to deal directly with the public, with well-developed customer service skills; the ability
4 j& r5 w- H3 z5 p! uto be diplomatic and courteous in dealing with the public, from the first passenger to the last passenger
) k# _6 ]) p, g: p  H7 q( t( t: I5 H* Zof the day.
•        Ability to meet the physical requirements of the job (operate bus controls, re-set trolley poles, provide passengers with assistance i.e. strollers, wheelchairs etc.).
•        Applicant must possess a valid class 5 Alberta Motor Vehicle Operator's license (non-probationary and non-graduated) and must have held a valid operator's license for (3) consecutive years.
•        Selected applicants must pass the Alberta Motor Vehicle Operator's class 2 written test, at their own expense, prior to training.

showing no suspensions and no more than 3 demerits recorded over the previous 2 year period.
•        Ability to pass a written English comprehension test, a public relations video-test, a driving skill
* J' H6 i! y$ J, C; s% J, Zvideo-test, a Functional Abilities Recruitment Evaluation (F.A.R.E.) test, a pre-employment City medical examination and a Police Security clearance (at their own expense, prior to training).
•        Successful completion of the ETS Training Program.
5 H" j4 I! @6 R8 ?•        Internal ETS applicants must have completed all mandatory in-house training.

HOURS OF WORK:
7 k' ?$ _  i( e- y% F( L+ YVarious hours of shift work (straight or split shift), any time of the day, any 5 days of the week
1st year:  Guaranteed minimum 67.4 hours bi-weekly
7 Y4 [) k* d. W: M+ @- f$ KThereafter:  Guaranteed minimum 74 hours biweekly

SALARY RANGE:  401, Salary Grade: 004
