JOB SUMMARY:  The Chief Returning Officer reports to the President of  
8 ]9 s! ~5 U7 d7 z7 z' O5 Jthe Students' Union and oversees all electoral logistics as per Bylaw  $ V+ I: ~3 R% m- s! _% H, i1 j3 [
2000.  The Chief Returning Officer shall be recommended to Students'  ! S) B' }" [9 f$ l1 g; E% W
Council in the manner set out in the Council Administration Committee  
# A5 k  T" t7 n  Y! c% ZStanding Orders by April 15 and serve from May 1 to April 30 of the

( A3 p0 R; ?4 ~6 TDUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:+ _/ y5 z- W2 u7 y& i5 M7 H

* X5 d7 i2 p6 Y0 @7 l' A1) To run the elections as per Bylaws 2000

, I; b1 e) v8 [( ^5 ?( D2) To run referenda/plebiscites as per Bylaw 2000.

8 P' c& |/ K3 F7 B8 L& q3) To choose the Deputy Returning Officer(s) and assign their duties.

8 Y# t3 @+ `! u2 y1 w4) To organize polls during elections/referenda, including appointing  
0 b/ U0 y# @. C  D0 ^# a+ fadequate poll staff and situating polls at appropriate locations  
' H1 @" C% Y! @. T; [across campus, and advertising the poll locations.5 v7 o( g! J3 ^. o$ t

$ d2 @0 u7 j& o$ E7 W5) To oversee the physical count of the ballots during elections/
: ]6 y# y6 c) [/ w. Q7 r7 _# K3 ^referenda.9 l+ r2 |" @3 d" H- H0 Z* U

5 O2 K, C3 }1 e3 j- k6) To report the result of an election/referendum to the appropriate  8 U! e* h  c, u6 X; V, Z. y/ `
parties.+ u4 i5 S0 Q& Q* r. o. z# S

9 m, K4 _$ l# Q3 y1 J7) To facilitate classroom speaking arrangements during an election/ 6 \$ \- o9 W) P5 S& |4 v9 j' I
referendum.

1 L7 Y5 C. P# w To enforce budgetary regulations as stipulated in the Elections  
) E& }; ]7 h% W( u- N5 B" T. WBylaw 2000.

2 T  J1 k" Y% K) w1 d+ j, V10) To be available to all parties during elections/referenda for a  
$ x8 U) E) O4 zminimum of four (4) working hours a day, between Monday to Friday,  5 X$ U& G% T+ x0 z
from the first working day after nominations close until the last day  
; J& H6 m* ~* `3 v3 F7 J9 }# [of voting.  These hours are to be posted in advance.* f9 p; i4 \; B% _% L/ h' X. D

11) To act as the arbitrator in any dispute which may arise during  + j+ y0 l4 r3 ]# v
the course of an election/referendum." G1 T7 K* p$ c) w$ M

6 @: v) w$ Z3 k12) To ensure that a cost effective and accurate ballot counting  0 p( ?6 j; A; B, s5 P
process is in place.

; |/ _  t  K( Z9 u13) To submit to Students' Council, prior to April 30, a final report    @+ \' J) ?. C$ _' M4 _2 W+ B3 E% m
of activities and recommendations.

% _% b4 a1 g  C6 M14) To organize a minimum of one (1) forum to be held during the week  
3 Z4 T0 ~0 B# H$ x5 z5 S+ ^  d* }of campaigning.

$ K" o# v% ], ^* |! M( v15) Perform other job related duties as required by the Council  ; w9 V; u* s; O8 P5 X( T  z! y

QUALIFICATIONS:, R0 V+ }$ T# P

1) Must be an undergrad student registered in at least one (1) course  
3 g+ `, @- G, Z" D$ Y& J& }  c+ l5 zfor each of the terms of Winter Session and shall be a full Students'  , \% g2 X0 u# O- l1 b0 [
Union member.& w( I4 _2 B$ F: r- P5 B9 J

+ T* p* i5 o8 F1 [! x: e2) Must have some experience in student elections.9 B6 S  ~) {& X, |  ]9 e4 P2 Q

) Z3 y# T% c: [" `4 ^' S8 m3) Shall not concurrently hold a position on Students' Council, or  
+ z# o9 l7 _0 h  {1 eany of its standing boards, committees, or any other paid position  # O$ g, W3 ?0 b3 c8 A; ^
with the Students' Union.
