JOB SUMMARY:  The Chief Returning Officer reports to the President of  6 P* W2 U; n% b8 W& u7 q- D
the Students' Union and oversees all electoral logistics as per Bylaw  
2 \; I: z1 Y0 t- F6 t( b2000.  The Chief Returning Officer shall be recommended to Students'  
( l' U6 f: x8 e; Z8 L% I" cCouncil in the manner set out in the Council Administration Committee  ( A* Z7 M, {! _1 z8 X
Standing Orders by April 15 and serve from May 1 to April 30 of the  / M! w  R5 H  {, c
year following their appointment.9 o( A" I- v& m( u6 S, @- ]

1 h0 I5 v( E1 e& ^& K7 jDUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:. ^: O5 K2 N3 j! G) W7 G

( }* T" d; j  x7 g/ I# s1) To run the elections as per Bylaws 2000
0 O- K+ y/ d, S
; G( U' M+ ]0 s- e2) To run referenda/plebiscites as per Bylaw 2000.

+ T. Y; ^7 B" M- z  d% j( A3) To choose the Deputy Returning Officer(s) and assign their duties.
1 C3 p; }# j" P' Q8 q9 W+ x+ C
7 r7 O6 S" g3 Y. B+ m/ v4) To organize polls during elections/referenda, including appointing  
. F4 B6 l: w  o/ u8 Radequate poll staff and situating polls at appropriate locations  
1 E1 e) P! c# eacross campus, and advertising the poll locations.
3 o5 r" I. U. H5 H7 |9 s# G7 i5 X" H
5) To oversee the physical count of the ballots during elections/
$ e. o  K9 N% v: ]referenda.
4 }; |. w! F# T9 q( V# t5 ?3 V0 w( @# G6 R& _7 r
6) To report the result of an election/referendum to the appropriate  
( C1 y& @' g; `0 Wparties.

- J( M9 b  [; W  Q* F* O( S7) To facilitate classroom speaking arrangements during an election/ 9 X; z: z7 ^; Y  L0 M0 R4 D, f
referendum.

. p$ i# b% b& o" _- t/ t4 c To enforce budgetary regulations as stipulated in the Elections  
* U3 O) T; M- P' s! I. D% }# y  D) HBylaw 2000.' @4 N' O: `( b! K- W

# v1 ?4 B4 H3 X3 U( a. u10) To be available to all parties during elections/referenda for a  
& L$ s) I3 V1 {1 @7 iminimum of four (4) working hours a day, between Monday to Friday,  
* I5 C  h9 }" p0 Z9 ~from the first working day after nominations close until the last day  
( i' H- @$ ?" x5 V3 Zof voting.  These hours are to be posted in advance.+ Q, E# K2 Q1 i7 R$ \
9 g9 }4 D$ ^% h8 _
11) To act as the arbitrator in any dispute which may arise during  
9 i5 u6 C# Z9 C7 J- zthe course of an election/referendum.
; h+ j- n( U' }  h& N0 p$ M2 r5 ~
12) To ensure that a cost effective and accurate ballot counting  
% \$ f, N9 a$ Q# h( j3 nprocess is in place.! ]& ^2 r( H* f
+ Z3 [+ ~* `+ r( B4 @% }1 a' K* ^8 U
13) To submit to Students' Council, prior to April 30, a final report  
0 W2 ^0 G% |# tof activities and recommendations.

14) To organize a minimum of one (1) forum to be held during the week  
5 O9 p  c6 Q* d  c5 fof campaigning.7 R' d; f  s8 T; T

! [) e( V! l/ U$ K/ L! L  ~15) Perform other job related duties as required by the Council  - g* v& r5 z' j) {. r* b% K( [

0 T! A/ d* @& P5 tQUALIFICATIONS:# ^+ P5 m' B( t6 l7 q& q  q

1) Must be an undergrad student registered in at least one (1) course  
8 ^6 ?0 P8 ]  |. @1 A$ c" pfor each of the terms of Winter Session and shall be a full Students'  ! I* v+ o0 `8 Z; G' D' `7 T5 r$ P
Union member.
' f- j, P8 c8 x# ~6 z+ U4 P- t8 k/ Z' D1 K, H
2) Must have some experience in student elections.
8 u/ ^" v0 E  F! q$ A: X1 k+ F5 ~4 q+ k( W  h4 o
3) Shall not concurrently hold a position on Students' Council, or  
+ i& _) a' D1 y; _- aany of its standing boards, committees, or any other paid position  3 g; L. H9 z: x) a) }8 J
with the Students' Union.

4) Willingness and ability to work varying hours.

5) Excellent project management skills are required.8 }9 b1 }- r$ w. Q6 w+ o5 P
