CHIEF RETURNING OFFICER

0 C9 k* o; Z. }+ b  E$ TJOB SUMMARY:  The Chief Returning Officer reports to the President of  
9 V  k$ y% E$ d1 d. g% a" z5 g% bthe Students' Union and oversees all electoral logistics as per Bylaw  
/ r: l$ o7 E. S% f3 [. r2000.  The Chief Returning Officer shall be recommended to Students'  
$ e* A( r4 G% X1 Q1 |1 X+ i  cCouncil in the manner set out in the Council Administration Committee  ' r' R/ N# h0 v3 F
Standing Orders by April 15 and serve from May 1 to April 30 of the  
5 ^7 {4 K7 _4 Iyear following their appointment.

1) To run the elections as per Bylaws 2000
' ]. U7 C: O" ?( i% B3 ]& e
; P3 Q, t( O0 J1 K" X! N# c2) To run referenda/plebiscites as per Bylaw 2000.( X& Y7 j0 e: z) j6 |

' S1 u6 @$ L  T3 r3) To choose the Deputy Returning Officer(s) and assign their duties.
& g: h5 l* c- H8 O$ G( V8 q# z# Q
! y9 E. c: E2 G9 T" t" Q4) To organize polls during elections/referenda, including appointing  
. b! [; p. r4 ^4 Sadequate poll staff and situating polls at appropriate locations  
: E+ ~7 D7 m0 b- H% y& a# n$ Kacross campus, and advertising the poll locations.9 G2 l5 x$ p  Q' g9 a
- L6 [4 a2 `- F, b+ a) x7 ?& K# I% ?
5) To oversee the physical count of the ballots during elections/
7 W' ?' P- O2 a- S9 k, e$ yreferenda.9 V& W9 q* |1 P: U

% a3 m, Q9 A% J+ e. f6) To report the result of an election/referendum to the appropriate  ( t/ Y+ w7 w) m* g9 U
parties.. ~- l$ \3 m* t8 l* f

# J) [. K9 `  u( k) n7) To facilitate classroom speaking arrangements during an election/
5 L0 t$ c5 h- ^9 S$ Breferendum.) |) R# Q( n0 E9 A5 K/ z

To enforce budgetary regulations as stipulated in the Elections  
7 d( `- E& d6 e' w" bBylaw 2000.
1 w* R- I6 l8 D  }. O! v1 u) R5 O5 l: Q6 A+ B
10) To be available to all parties during elections/referenda for a  
# J# t/ O6 Q, z) X9 c# Q+ _minimum of four (4) working hours a day, between Monday to Friday,  
+ t, z0 }5 w9 q: ~# rfrom the first working day after nominations close until the last day  5 h! s' n+ |  c. s
of voting.  These hours are to be posted in advance.1 R- P% X+ Y/ w3 a0 |0 n

11) To act as the arbitrator in any dispute which may arise during  2 T2 J( ~# K  c  I; }/ H
the course of an election/referendum.% [3 x; Z6 q3 q+ a- w- R; z  T1 e' o

* z- O9 L9 M$ h% t12) To ensure that a cost effective and accurate ballot counting  / O8 T$ R7 j! E9 b" @8 Z' \+ o
process is in place.3 ?; S* j- V/ }; J: w6 u0 v9 F

) |5 l  a! X5 R' z' y. ~13) To submit to Students' Council, prior to April 30, a final report  ( r# U% ~+ b, U4 o. s* ~! H- `
of activities and recommendations.

! A) L1 P, R! _& N9 Z14) To organize a minimum of one (1) forum to be held during the week  : @: ?0 s2 x$ O
of campaigning.

3 i! r; a9 K# X, J" T4 S' E, T/ p15) Perform other job related duties as required by the Council

' a+ U) M! v; PQUALIFICATIONS:
  {: e+ V1 {% n/ z7 n3 d1 B& b, F9 L* K2 G
1) Must be an undergrad student registered in at least one (1) course  & Z6 s' T% V0 Z2 J/ m4 O
for each of the terms of Winter Session and shall be a full Students'  
& F( n1 O, F9 o. {8 m* f6 m$ CUnion member./ Y4 r' \' P4 ^8 F) o* j0 w2 _

  q& W8 E. u- K% K# ^2) Must have some experience in student elections.+ Q& w3 g% k, V* T& S4 }% W( Z
6 U# _3 O* a# m  o% F+ y8 V
3) Shall not concurrently hold a position on Students' Council, or  - K4 x/ H8 R# a0 X4 E9 _( a
any of its standing boards, committees, or any other paid position  
5 q" z5 X+ t: ?9 O4 n& V9 Iwith the Students' Union.! A; N% l0 D5 F- }+ k* r% @. a- }

5 M$ y: V0 L; ~( d8 G4) Willingness and ability to work varying hours.
