( q9 Y: l5 l! }! W. k# }* B' uSpecific duties vary with positions and Departments and involve performing general labouring duties that may include:
& q/ Q: ~# _+ ]' n" e7 k& CDrainage Services, Asset Management & Public Works
+ [' W, p& T0 }/ |- T•        Construction of sewer lines, catch basins, access and drop manholes, watermains, feedmains, hydrants, ditches, water appurtenances, concrete structures such as storm outlets.
•        Digging holes and trenches by hand, excavation activities on major open cut projects ensuring placement of shoring, timbers, and struts; cutting, grinding levelling, jointing and laying of pipe.

C! ^# U/ x2 @•        Repairing sewer services, main lines and pumping stations; cleaning sewer and drainage systems by low pressure flushing; assisting drainage servicemen in inspecting, rodding and televising sewer services; repairing manholes and catchbasins; assisting equipment operators in performing high pressure flushing and vaccuum cleaning activities.
Parks, Asset Management & Public Works
•        Maintenance of parks: mowing, herbiciding and sanitation of turf, shrub and flower bed maintenance, marking & maintaining sports fields, playground inspections and servicing.
4 M# M, o* Y. j) {0 L* a& a•        Construction of parks: manual labour using hand tools such as shovels, rakes and stake pounders.
•        Park service and trail maintenance: including sanitation of picnic sites, amenity buildings, repair of signs, roadways, trail surfaces, irrigation & homeless camps.
•        Forestry operations including various arboriculture tasks- assist in the development and maintenance of the urban forest.
" B. F2 J5 `$ O, L4 ]•        Pesticide Applicators license an asset.
1 p% w/ d2 L4 o' J•        Labourers may be provided with rate up opportunities where required.
2 Q" E9 B+ A5 [. rRoadway Maintenance / Traffic Field Operations, Transportation
9 d$ S, L; r: d! I4 E3 m•        Asphalt/concrete repairs, cracksealing, and paving.
) u+ B" h9 b- r4 M- [7 z8 p•        Performing structural concrete/steel duties on bridge maintenance (must be able to work heights).
•        Pouring, spreading, tamping and leveling soil, sand, gravel and concrete.
2 u  i, n5 `! Q5 d) U•        Working in traffic during street construction/maintenance projects.
/ _# D! m( U: B! Z5 h" a0 |9 b•        Installation, maintenance and removal of road markings, traffic / detour control devices.
Recreation Facilities Branch, Community Services
2 g% K% V1 L0 |0 b) b•        Golf course, driving range, and park maintenance including turf mowing, fertilizer and pesticide application.
. O) `: o2 H( U3 l  L# W5 G# U•        Internments at cemetaries; concrete pouring of foundations and markers; monument restoration.
•        Operating and performing minor maintenance with equipment such as: small hand tools, push lawn mowers, trimmers, edgers, small rototillers, and chain saws.
•        Set up and take down of furniture and equipment for events and bookings at Recreation Facilities.
( R$ }& v7 x$ u& s! \8 N•        Assists with on-going general facility maintenance and cleaning at Recreation Facilities.
Functions of all positions:
•        Loading and unloading materials from trucks.
# T' Y9 i' Y. K•        Assisting tradesman and other more experienced staff & performing other related duties as required.
Job Requirements:
•        Completion of the eighth school grade or equivalent.  Must be indicated on application/resume.
•        Possession of a valid Motor Vehicle Operator's License. Must be indicated on application/resume.
# i6 z/ i) m# H•        Applicants may be tested, and where required to operate a City vehicle, must attain a City of Edmonton driving permit upon appointment.
: q. V7 u/ o/ H7 X  D! [•        Physically capable of performing heavy labour work for extended periods of time under various weather and traffic conditions.
•        Manual dexterity to operate simple hand and/or power tools and small equipment.
•        Ability to follow oral and written instructions.
" c& t' H1 |; U( P/ W2 D& E•        Team player & self-motivated, possibility of working alone on scheduled shift.
3 @* c, }+ A0 X9 C% Q6 MHOURS OF WORK: Up to 40 hours per week. Hours of work will vary with each position.  These positions may be subject to shift work, providing coverage 7 days per week.  Please indicate if you’re interested in shift work.
5 @  A! `6 d$ X% e& ?! m% aSALARY RANGE: 10M, Salary Grade: 013, starting at $15.11 (Hourly).  Rates are based on employee status and length of service. The rates quoted are in accordance with an agreement between the Union and the City.
