Specific duties vary with positions and Departments and involve performing general labouring duties that may include:" G, Y2 B9 J. ^, X6 F1 Z% P
Drainage Services, Asset Management & Public Works! M: ?+ a0 w2 j$ {
• Construction of sewer lines, catch basins, access and drop manholes, watermains, feedmains, hydrants, ditches, water appurtenances, concrete structures such as storm outlets.7 C0 `9 }2 y/ D! N J8 J
• Digging holes and trenches by hand, excavation activities on major open cut projects ensuring placement of shoring, timbers, and struts; cutting, grinding levelling, jointing and laying of pipe.$ d" a* A6 M4 ]
• Repairing sewer services, main lines and pumping stations; cleaning sewer and drainage systems by low pressure flushing; assisting drainage servicemen in inspecting, rodding and televising sewer services; repairing manholes and catchbasins; assisting equipment operators in performing high pressure flushing and vaccuum cleaning activities.& Z9 `5 g0 b( b! e" ]; X, m( r: g
Parks, Asset Management & Public Works/ u R& m0 `3 _1 m: E* \/ r4 {
• Maintenance of parks: mowing, herbiciding and sanitation of turf, shrub and flower bed maintenance, marking & maintaining sports fields, playground inspections and servicing. i7 P6 t1 q2 D
• Construction of parks: manual labour using hand tools such as shovels, rakes and stake pounders.
" Y. P9 p7 e) \( Y• Park service and trail maintenance: including sanitation of picnic sites, amenity buildings, repair of signs, roadways, trail surfaces, irrigation & homeless camps.
4 Q2 [" u* F( N* e/ K! ?+ V• Forestry operations including various arboriculture tasks- assist in the development and maintenance of the urban forest.
, z- N5 z8 F; T• Pesticide Applicators license an asset.

Roadway Maintenance / Traffic Field Operations, Transportation, Q, Q2 K( L P Q' z' Q
• Asphalt/concrete repairs, cracksealing, and paving.
$ M+ s( Z% H. h8 S) l3 k8 ?• Performing structural concrete/steel duties on bridge maintenance (must be able to work heights).
) T2 B# y& |# s# e% j• Pouring, spreading, tamping and leveling soil, sand, gravel and concrete.8 z [% u/ F$ @5 I7 f
• Working in traffic during street construction/maintenance projects.

Recreation Facilities Branch, Community Services4 a! R& Q! i# w0 f& O* R+ k
• Golf course, driving range, and park maintenance including turf mowing, fertilizer and pesticide application.& i5 P# J1 Y; }3 {
• Internments at cemetaries; concrete pouring of foundations and markers; monument restoration.7 f1 X$ O3 L$ z+ e5 x
• Operating and performing minor maintenance with equipment such as: small hand tools, push lawn mowers, trimmers, edgers, small rototillers, and chain saws.
+ B$ {# ]. z+ d# {. k• Set up and take down of furniture and equipment for events and bookings at Recreation Facilities.
) p# h$ I/ T. s' I% }9 B• Assists with on-going general facility maintenance and cleaning at Recreation Facilities.3 @( x5 U4 V4 t6 P" h

• Loading and unloading materials from trucks.

& ~! P) g( U0 X3 r+ d• Completion of the eighth school grade or equivalent. Must be indicated on application/resume.
4 d' T( l4 q, z7 E/ e; u• Possession of a valid Motor Vehicle Operator's License. Must be indicated on application/resume.
, J% t! @. c, j# `& d Z• Applicants may be tested, and where required to operate a City vehicle, must attain a City of Edmonton driving permit upon appointment.
' ^/ Z3 A' B2 A: q U9 x• Physically capable of performing heavy labour work for extended periods of time under various weather and traffic conditions.; [; w3 ~: D) d! X1 ]6 U, ?
• Manual dexterity to operate simple hand and/or power tools and small equipment.
" A9 j2 e* ?0 A# a' \$ t) h: Y X• Ability to follow oral and written instructions.

* B! b0 ?" B1 m( X/ O% UHOURS OF WORK: Up to 40 hours per week. Hours of work will vary with each position. These positions may be subject to shift work, providing coverage 7 days per week. Please indicate if you’re interested in shift work.
