. f) O/ }9 M) o5 I- ^3 }Specific duties vary with positions and Departments and involve performing general labouring duties that may include:
Drainage Services, Asset Management & Public Works
•        Construction of sewer lines, catch basins, access and drop manholes, watermains, feedmains, hydrants, ditches, water appurtenances, concrete structures such as storm outlets.
•        Digging holes and trenches by hand, excavation activities on major open cut projects ensuring placement of shoring, timbers, and struts; cutting, grinding levelling, jointing and laying of pipe.
6 E* Z) @) E- ]2 v7 V" T•        Repairing sewer services, main lines and pumping stations; cleaning sewer and drainage systems by low pressure flushing; assisting drainage servicemen in inspecting, rodding and televising sewer services; repairing manholes and catchbasins; assisting equipment operators in performing high pressure flushing and vaccuum cleaning activities.

•        Maintenance of parks: mowing, herbiciding and sanitation of turf, shrub and flower bed maintenance, marking & maintaining sports fields, playground inspections and servicing.
- d8 x. {5 ^/ n8 I0 d•        Construction of parks: manual labour using hand tools such as shovels, rakes and stake pounders.
+ _0 @! K% _& Y: b  ^: b8 N" h•        Park service and trail maintenance: including sanitation of picnic sites, amenity buildings, repair of signs, roadways, trail surfaces, irrigation & homeless camps.
% i* `# T1 ^  I' y  R% B) `•        Forestry operations including various arboriculture tasks- assist in the development and maintenance of the urban forest.
5 ^; d3 I; T" M6 f8 U/ Y•        Pesticide Applicators license an asset.
•        Labourers may be provided with rate up opportunities where required.
# i3 b5 ?! {  d, }' [( `* KRoadway Maintenance / Traffic Field Operations, Transportation
•        Asphalt/concrete repairs, cracksealing, and paving.
1 [8 z$ Q1 U- |" e; H•        Performing structural concrete/steel duties on bridge maintenance (must be able to work heights).
9 ?" P2 A( B8 {8 H/ t3 _) e•        Pouring, spreading, tamping and leveling soil, sand, gravel and concrete.
•        Working in traffic during street construction/maintenance projects.
•        Installation, maintenance and removal of road markings, traffic / detour control devices.
Recreation Facilities Branch, Community Services
•        Golf course, driving range, and park maintenance including turf mowing, fertilizer and pesticide application.
) M4 A5 }% r; t6 x& I! ^, b! L& e•        Internments at cemetaries; concrete pouring of foundations and markers; monument restoration.
•        Operating and performing minor maintenance with equipment such as: small hand tools, push lawn mowers, trimmers, edgers, small rototillers, and chain saws.
•        Set up and take down of furniture and equipment for events and bookings at Recreation Facilities.
: D) o3 C, A: [0 h6 ~0 D•        Assists with on-going general facility maintenance and cleaning at Recreation Facilities.

•        Assisting tradesman and other more experienced staff & performing other related duties as required.
% f7 E$ j) }- }( M# O+ n% `Job Requirements:
•        Completion of the eighth school grade or equivalent.  Must be indicated on application/resume.
•        Possession of a valid Motor Vehicle Operator's License. Must be indicated on application/resume.
•        Applicants may be tested, and where required to operate a City vehicle, must attain a City of Edmonton driving permit upon appointment.
. ^: ?& x4 H+ S, L; @5 h•        Physically capable of performing heavy labour work for extended periods of time under various weather and traffic conditions.
•        Manual dexterity to operate simple hand and/or power tools and small equipment.
/ K4 j( }! T# A8 c6 t•        Ability to follow oral and written instructions.
, t$ p" h3 Y, Z: }' q' P•        Team player & self-motivated, possibility of working alone on scheduled shift.
8 K+ M1 x5 `7 f+ z- w' RHOURS OF WORK: Up to 40 hours per week. Hours of work will vary with each position.  These positions may be subject to shift work, providing coverage 7 days per week.  Please indicate if you’re interested in shift work.
, \2 k# k+ r) sSALARY RANGE: 10M, Salary Grade: 013, starting at $15.11 (Hourly).  Rates are based on employee status and length of service. The rates quoted are in accordance with an agreement between the Union and the City.
