" [7 ^# c( D) X* BSpecific duties vary with positions and Departments and involve performing general labouring duties that may include:
) ?6 U; m! N1 L9 Q3 s9 LDrainage Services, Asset Management & Public Works
( ?6 m/ v" |) ^/ l•        Construction of sewer lines, catch basins, access and drop manholes, watermains, feedmains, hydrants, ditches, water appurtenances, concrete structures such as storm outlets.
3 e# H1 ^) ]6 F•        Digging holes and trenches by hand, excavation activities on major open cut projects ensuring placement of shoring, timbers, and struts; cutting, grinding levelling, jointing and laying of pipe.
5 N1 M  x6 C/ m2 \. u" L& I•        Repairing sewer services, main lines and pumping stations; cleaning sewer and drainage systems by low pressure flushing; assisting drainage servicemen in inspecting, rodding and televising sewer services; repairing manholes and catchbasins; assisting equipment operators in performing high pressure flushing and vaccuum cleaning activities.
% o4 H6 @, \6 AParks, Asset Management & Public Works
•        Maintenance of parks: mowing, herbiciding and sanitation of turf, shrub and flower bed maintenance, marking & maintaining sports fields, playground inspections and servicing.
; K+ B8 D/ f; \- Z2 f% M; h•        Construction of parks: manual labour using hand tools such as shovels, rakes and stake pounders.
" b2 j; D: _1 K7 _7 Q) M: g•        Park service and trail maintenance: including sanitation of picnic sites, amenity buildings, repair of signs, roadways, trail surfaces, irrigation & homeless camps.
/ Q) V: C6 p/ ?, a7 ^•        Forestry operations including various arboriculture tasks- assist in the development and maintenance of the urban forest.
  Y2 y  G7 k; G2 [/ z/ O•        Pesticide Applicators license an asset.
  U% ~6 |3 j1 m* l# V" V9 F•        Labourers may be provided with rate up opportunities where required.
0 d0 h$ w. C: ^' j6 S, ~# VRoadway Maintenance / Traffic Field Operations, Transportation
•        Asphalt/concrete repairs, cracksealing, and paving.
3 U$ y$ }# k) f/ G7 j•        Performing structural concrete/steel duties on bridge maintenance (must be able to work heights).
1 k& ?+ v) x+ B•        Pouring, spreading, tamping and leveling soil, sand, gravel and concrete.
•        Working in traffic during street construction/maintenance projects.
0 X! C5 }% y  ]& h  w0 A•        Installation, maintenance and removal of road markings, traffic / detour control devices.
Recreation Facilities Branch, Community Services
•        Golf course, driving range, and park maintenance including turf mowing, fertilizer and pesticide application.
& f; a1 f1 [. q; I0 B5 i•        Internments at cemetaries; concrete pouring of foundations and markers; monument restoration.
•        Operating and performing minor maintenance with equipment such as: small hand tools, push lawn mowers, trimmers, edgers, small rototillers, and chain saws.
•        Set up and take down of furniture and equipment for events and bookings at Recreation Facilities.
1 W' B! G  Y+ \& ?/ ]; a6 K0 }& J! {•        Assists with on-going general facility maintenance and cleaning at Recreation Facilities.

•        Loading and unloading materials from trucks.
9 G8 Q& I: ?* \. v•        Assisting tradesman and other more experienced staff & performing other related duties as required.

•        Completion of the eighth school grade or equivalent.  Must be indicated on application/resume.
•        Possession of a valid Motor Vehicle Operator's License. Must be indicated on application/resume.
0 d) P+ _. j# C7 G•        Applicants may be tested, and where required to operate a City vehicle, must attain a City of Edmonton driving permit upon appointment.
•        Physically capable of performing heavy labour work for extended periods of time under various weather and traffic conditions.
•        Manual dexterity to operate simple hand and/or power tools and small equipment.
6 t$ j5 p$ @( O4 c•        Ability to follow oral and written instructions.
; L( K3 X( z5 l3 r•        Team player & self-motivated, possibility of working alone on scheduled shift.
HOURS OF WORK: Up to 40 hours per week. Hours of work will vary with each position.  These positions may be subject to shift work, providing coverage 7 days per week.  Please indicate if you’re interested in shift work.
8 ?" U: @! }5 J: b7 J% i9 ZSALARY RANGE: 10M, Salary Grade: 013, starting at $15.11 (Hourly).  Rates are based on employee status and length of service. The rates quoted are in accordance with an agreement between the Union and the City.
