Specific duties vary with positions and Departments and involve performing general labouring duties that may include: i& d, a, U% ]5 N# e2 y+ q! D
Drainage Services, Asset Management & Public Works
" s& h9 E5 e& S5 a. G• Construction of sewer lines, catch basins, access and drop manholes, watermains, feedmains, hydrants, ditches, water appurtenances, concrete structures such as storm outlets.& O3 c' X+ t& U" J* i6 u* J) k
• Digging holes and trenches by hand, excavation activities on major open cut projects ensuring placement of shoring, timbers, and struts; cutting, grinding levelling, jointing and laying of pipe.5 T3 F0 @: V8 [" N5 Z
• Repairing sewer services, main lines and pumping stations; cleaning sewer and drainage systems by low pressure flushing; assisting drainage servicemen in inspecting, rodding and televising sewer services; repairing manholes and catchbasins; assisting equipment operators in performing high pressure flushing and vaccuum cleaning activities.1 p) k$ b8 r3 S, Y
Parks, Asset Management & Public Works
7 r2 P! j# C% f8 x, }7 L7 |• Maintenance of parks: mowing, herbiciding and sanitation of turf, shrub and flower bed maintenance, marking & maintaining sports fields, playground inspections and servicing. ' B! v# Y! B% v% d+ j
• Construction of parks: manual labour using hand tools such as shovels, rakes and stake pounders.' Y; b0 V* e9 j2 Z
• Park service and trail maintenance: including sanitation of picnic sites, amenity buildings, repair of signs, roadways, trail surfaces, irrigation & homeless camps.
& g9 q# l" l3 x; j7 B6 ^• Forestry operations including various arboriculture tasks- assist in the development and maintenance of the urban forest.

Roadway Maintenance / Traffic Field Operations, Transportation

• Pouring, spreading, tamping and leveling soil, sand, gravel and concrete.0 L* c( `6 Q, W3 O$ N( H
• Working in traffic during street construction/maintenance projects.7 A1 ]# s1 n1 _! g4 Y# U( @6 N9 H
• Installation, maintenance and removal of road markings, traffic / detour control devices.

• Set up and take down of furniture and equipment for events and bookings at Recreation Facilities.

• Loading and unloading materials from trucks.

• Completion of the eighth school grade or equivalent. Must be indicated on application/resume.% T: n8 r4 O/ ?: r- f) q1 c' a
• Possession of a valid Motor Vehicle Operator's License. Must be indicated on application/resume.

• Physically capable of performing heavy labour work for extended periods of time under various weather and traffic conditions.( L1 n& X+ r' C9 Y6 V! q$ b
• Manual dexterity to operate simple hand and/or power tools and small equipment.( I4 W$ X2 n* ~# x1 X' j
• Ability to follow oral and written instructions.
$ Q( @3 b1 x! V9 x/ Y# f" ~• Team player & self-motivated, possibility of working alone on scheduled shift.; a: X2 H( M; w
HOURS OF WORK: Up to 40 hours per week. Hours of work will vary with each position. These positions may be subject to shift work, providing coverage 7 days per week. Please indicate if you’re interested in shift work.
7 S: Z8 ]* T3 a% X% }0 Z+ {SALARY RANGE: 10M, Salary Grade: 013, starting at $15.11 (Hourly). Rates are based on employee status and length of service. The rates quoted are in accordance with an agreement between the Union and the City.
