Specific duties vary with positions and Departments and involve performing general labouring duties that may include:
% {* J. F8 ]6 Q( Y8 V# |Drainage Services, Asset Management & Public Works
. d H6 _$ V" D( G' @6 n• Construction of sewer lines, catch basins, access and drop manholes, watermains, feedmains, hydrants, ditches, water appurtenances, concrete structures such as storm outlets.
7 }+ E, ]* U2 w' ?• Digging holes and trenches by hand, excavation activities on major open cut projects ensuring placement of shoring, timbers, and struts; cutting, grinding levelling, jointing and laying of pipe.

L' w a9 q7 B• Repairing sewer services, main lines and pumping stations; cleaning sewer and drainage systems by low pressure flushing; assisting drainage servicemen in inspecting, rodding and televising sewer services; repairing manholes and catchbasins; assisting equipment operators in performing high pressure flushing and vaccuum cleaning activities.( H% p6 }% o- q
Parks, Asset Management & Public Works, u% B9 [8 L/ b1 j, p6 X
• Maintenance of parks: mowing, herbiciding and sanitation of turf, shrub and flower bed maintenance, marking & maintaining sports fields, playground inspections and servicing. " ?! G& I+ W) j1 z. |
• Construction of parks: manual labour using hand tools such as shovels, rakes and stake pounders.
0 `+ h! ^9 n+ @ Y; ?" q• Park service and trail maintenance: including sanitation of picnic sites, amenity buildings, repair of signs, roadways, trail surfaces, irrigation & homeless camps.

• Pesticide Applicators license an asset. [: e" q! o5 V

Roadway Maintenance / Traffic Field Operations, Transportation5 O( |2 S+ W8 n% ]
• Asphalt/concrete repairs, cracksealing, and paving.3 ]) z6 [7 b$ f+ E/ l$ S! ?
• Performing structural concrete/steel duties on bridge maintenance (must be able to work heights).

• Working in traffic during street construction/maintenance projects.

Recreation Facilities Branch, Community Services7 K7 E9 M9 J- M; K
• Golf course, driving range, and park maintenance including turf mowing, fertilizer and pesticide application.
. d/ m. H: `& Y• Internments at cemetaries; concrete pouring of foundations and markers; monument restoration.
6 I, r( ?' D5 ^• Operating and performing minor maintenance with equipment such as: small hand tools, push lawn mowers, trimmers, edgers, small rototillers, and chain saws.
% ^6 y. B, D, y: Z• Set up and take down of furniture and equipment for events and bookings at Recreation Facilities.
+ h g; \! ]9 i• Assists with on-going general facility maintenance and cleaning at Recreation Facilities.

• Loading and unloading materials from trucks.

Job Requirements:5 x; X& K# X/ C
• Completion of the eighth school grade or equivalent. Must be indicated on application/resume.6 v# A- g5 t- c7 i Q+ a
• Possession of a valid Motor Vehicle Operator's License. Must be indicated on application/resume.+ K5 n6 \- M2 ]7 c5 P; c
• Applicants may be tested, and where required to operate a City vehicle, must attain a City of Edmonton driving permit upon appointment.5 y- G) R9 x; Y% _
• Physically capable of performing heavy labour work for extended periods of time under various weather and traffic conditions.) H6 l) Z( o6 [5 G0 ~% M) K
• Manual dexterity to operate simple hand and/or power tools and small equipment.
+ x$ Q- L" ]: U1 i2 e+ |2 r• Ability to follow oral and written instructions.0 x! G8 g. u% Y5 o$ Y3 b
• Team player & self-motivated, possibility of working alone on scheduled shift.3 C5 k% a ~1 D* r9 Z
HOURS OF WORK: Up to 40 hours per week. Hours of work will vary with each position. These positions may be subject to shift work, providing coverage 7 days per week. Please indicate if you’re interested in shift work.
* P0 A) v; g/ |! J/ `/ H ASALARY RANGE: 10M, Salary Grade: 013, starting at $15.11 (Hourly). Rates are based on employee status and length of service. The rates quoted are in accordance with an agreement between the Union and the City.
