Specific duties vary with positions and Departments and involve performing general labouring duties that may include:
+ Q9 {' Y7 [7 J. L. EDrainage Services, Asset Management & Public Works
•        Construction of sewer lines, catch basins, access and drop manholes, watermains, feedmains, hydrants, ditches, water appurtenances, concrete structures such as storm outlets.
3 a. C. B: v2 j# n7 z8 Z6 c•        Digging holes and trenches by hand, excavation activities on major open cut projects ensuring placement of shoring, timbers, and struts; cutting, grinding levelling, jointing and laying of pipe.
/ t, ]& B- K4 ]. ?: k1 P& L+ u# n•        Repairing sewer services, main lines and pumping stations; cleaning sewer and drainage systems by low pressure flushing; assisting drainage servicemen in inspecting, rodding and televising sewer services; repairing manholes and catchbasins; assisting equipment operators in performing high pressure flushing and vaccuum cleaning activities.
% M6 I" X7 {0 i6 D8 k% b3 SParks, Asset Management & Public Works
•        Maintenance of parks: mowing, herbiciding and sanitation of turf, shrub and flower bed maintenance, marking & maintaining sports fields, playground inspections and servicing.
6 M3 [1 j9 ^, d3 g' }•        Construction of parks: manual labour using hand tools such as shovels, rakes and stake pounders.
9 E$ p( u0 f6 N1 j9 J# X7 W+ o0 o•        Park service and trail maintenance: including sanitation of picnic sites, amenity buildings, repair of signs, roadways, trail surfaces, irrigation & homeless camps.
•        Forestry operations including various arboriculture tasks- assist in the development and maintenance of the urban forest.
' t5 V0 \$ G8 r8 p+ n•        Pesticide Applicators license an asset.
9 m1 V$ ^3 k: v% z. f•        Labourers may be provided with rate up opportunities where required.
Roadway Maintenance / Traffic Field Operations, Transportation
. M5 n9 \2 U! D7 B& j•        Asphalt/concrete repairs, cracksealing, and paving.
8 u; M$ @: w  F7 j$ i8 j- O•        Performing structural concrete/steel duties on bridge maintenance (must be able to work heights).
% T3 i6 z! h. j•        Pouring, spreading, tamping and leveling soil, sand, gravel and concrete.
•        Working in traffic during street construction/maintenance projects.
) p/ Z( E5 m8 e( `0 o7 t•        Installation, maintenance and removal of road markings, traffic / detour control devices.
. R; F% H9 g: C. d; n1 cRecreation Facilities Branch, Community Services
•        Golf course, driving range, and park maintenance including turf mowing, fertilizer and pesticide application.
•        Internments at cemetaries; concrete pouring of foundations and markers; monument restoration.
5 P5 E9 Q2 y( S% F•        Operating and performing minor maintenance with equipment such as: small hand tools, push lawn mowers, trimmers, edgers, small rototillers, and chain saws.
•        Set up and take down of furniture and equipment for events and bookings at Recreation Facilities.
•        Assists with on-going general facility maintenance and cleaning at Recreation Facilities.

•        Loading and unloading materials from trucks.
, v% z+ j2 z0 M' ^" [! i6 v9 ^% x•        Assisting tradesman and other more experienced staff & performing other related duties as required.

) ^; L. g5 D8 O+ Q; E& R•        Completion of the eighth school grade or equivalent.  Must be indicated on application/resume.
•        Possession of a valid Motor Vehicle Operator's License. Must be indicated on application/resume.
•        Applicants may be tested, and where required to operate a City vehicle, must attain a City of Edmonton driving permit upon appointment.
•        Physically capable of performing heavy labour work for extended periods of time under various weather and traffic conditions.
7 d3 Q) ~5 j+ ?5 ^3 T3 O•        Manual dexterity to operate simple hand and/or power tools and small equipment.
6 n, ~. }- w- e) G9 T1 W•        Ability to follow oral and written instructions.
. [; w2 K* S! j8 x) P0 V•        Team player & self-motivated, possibility of working alone on scheduled shift.
HOURS OF WORK: Up to 40 hours per week. Hours of work will vary with each position.  These positions may be subject to shift work, providing coverage 7 days per week.  Please indicate if you’re interested in shift work.
SALARY RANGE: 10M, Salary Grade: 013, starting at $15.11 (Hourly).  Rates are based on employee status and length of service. The rates quoted are in accordance with an agreement between the Union and the City.
