5 d. m% r! Q, B! WSpecific duties vary with positions and Departments and involve performing general labouring duties that may include:
/ b  I2 O5 Z& {* fDrainage Services, Asset Management & Public Works
  b+ ?9 N, s# J9 i8 o( I& X7 Q•        Construction of sewer lines, catch basins, access and drop manholes, watermains, feedmains, hydrants, ditches, water appurtenances, concrete structures such as storm outlets.
•        Digging holes and trenches by hand, excavation activities on major open cut projects ensuring placement of shoring, timbers, and struts; cutting, grinding levelling, jointing and laying of pipe.
•        Repairing sewer services, main lines and pumping stations; cleaning sewer and drainage systems by low pressure flushing; assisting drainage servicemen in inspecting, rodding and televising sewer services; repairing manholes and catchbasins; assisting equipment operators in performing high pressure flushing and vaccuum cleaning activities.
Parks, Asset Management & Public Works
$ \' A. D2 Z# m/ V•        Maintenance of parks: mowing, herbiciding and sanitation of turf, shrub and flower bed maintenance, marking & maintaining sports fields, playground inspections and servicing.
•        Construction of parks: manual labour using hand tools such as shovels, rakes and stake pounders.
7 n4 s3 y1 k' |•        Park service and trail maintenance: including sanitation of picnic sites, amenity buildings, repair of signs, roadways, trail surfaces, irrigation & homeless camps.
9 k, x& E# z, w: I•        Forestry operations including various arboriculture tasks- assist in the development and maintenance of the urban forest.
' ^( D. i+ X) k•        Pesticide Applicators license an asset.
+ c% U5 L% M, G. `# ~•        Labourers may be provided with rate up opportunities where required.
4 H: l8 Y$ h8 k5 t% YRoadway Maintenance / Traffic Field Operations, Transportation
9 K  P; J$ D, d4 |•        Asphalt/concrete repairs, cracksealing, and paving.
) L; U/ h3 L; u% _8 C7 ~. y! b3 I; A•        Performing structural concrete/steel duties on bridge maintenance (must be able to work heights).
•        Pouring, spreading, tamping and leveling soil, sand, gravel and concrete.
•        Working in traffic during street construction/maintenance projects.
( M# C( b) G8 C( G•        Installation, maintenance and removal of road markings, traffic / detour control devices.
5 y( g# p$ \+ M0 i1 h& BRecreation Facilities Branch, Community Services
•        Golf course, driving range, and park maintenance including turf mowing, fertilizer and pesticide application.
•        Internments at cemetaries; concrete pouring of foundations and markers; monument restoration.
7 L7 q: c5 K0 J3 Y' _•        Operating and performing minor maintenance with equipment such as: small hand tools, push lawn mowers, trimmers, edgers, small rototillers, and chain saws.
•        Set up and take down of furniture and equipment for events and bookings at Recreation Facilities.
9 H5 O* U" q/ B  s7 ~•        Assists with on-going general facility maintenance and cleaning at Recreation Facilities.
1 o, G; T8 t' F! V! yFunctions of all positions:
•        Loading and unloading materials from trucks.
•        Assisting tradesman and other more experienced staff & performing other related duties as required.
1 K5 e3 {8 H3 Z* oJob Requirements:
/ Y, X8 D+ q( y0 _0 Y! {•        Completion of the eighth school grade or equivalent.  Must be indicated on application/resume.
•        Possession of a valid Motor Vehicle Operator's License. Must be indicated on application/resume.
•        Applicants may be tested, and where required to operate a City vehicle, must attain a City of Edmonton driving permit upon appointment.
* x/ g* l3 }% f" M) i; U•        Physically capable of performing heavy labour work for extended periods of time under various weather and traffic conditions.
+ r/ R' D, ~+ X+ ~$ ?/ z9 {•        Manual dexterity to operate simple hand and/or power tools and small equipment.
5 A, _9 q' _+ c% G! a4 d5 K•        Ability to follow oral and written instructions.
•        Team player & self-motivated, possibility of working alone on scheduled shift.
HOURS OF WORK: Up to 40 hours per week. Hours of work will vary with each position.  These positions may be subject to shift work, providing coverage 7 days per week.  Please indicate if you’re interested in shift work.
& r9 k1 v( c* [) x+ T6 KSALARY RANGE: 10M, Salary Grade: 013, starting at $15.11 (Hourly).  Rates are based on employee status and length of service. The rates quoted are in accordance with an agreement between the Union and the City.
