CALGARY -- Liquor merchants are applauding a move by the Alberta government to restrict a price increase proposed by the province's alcohol distributor.

0 B- m& x8 y; p6 x( u9 GConnects Logistics, the sole supplier to all liquor merchants in the province, will be able to raise its rates Feb. 25, but not to the levels it recently asked for.

6 L0 L3 o) a2 f+ p0 \* tThe industry had a difficult year in 2006 when Connects Logistics chronically failed to deliver shipments because of what the distributor said was a labour shortage.

That's one of the reasons the Alberta Gaming and Liquor Commission forced the supplier to roll back its proposed increases, said spokeswoman Marilyn Carlyle-Helms.

9 s1 W8 ]  p6 G5 `$ gThe increases approved by the liquor commission would see merchants pay, on average, an extra 10 cents for a 750-millilitre bottle of wine or spirits, 40 cents for a dozen imported bottled beer and 25 cents per dozen of imported canned beer.

根据烟酒管理委员会的批准，从平均来说，每750ML的红酒或白酒零售商们会多付1毛钱；每打进口的瓶装啤酒，多付4毛；每打进口的听装啤酒多付2毛5分。
