CALGARY -- Alberta's new solicitor general hopes to have more boots walking the beat this year, intensifying the fight against crime in the province. - v/ Y' ?8 X# V7 R2 a& V; {

Though any moves have to be approved in the province's budget, Lindsay said he's looking at boosting the ranks of the Mounties patrolling rural Alberta, to help curb a flood of urban organized crime groups, who are moving their operations to rural areas where there is less of a police presence. / V4 n$ y; f$ X% C T

Chop shops, where stolen cars are stripped for parts, and marijuana grow-ops have all started to sprout up throughout rural Alberta, said Lindsay. 9 K9 u$ i! t1 Z7 O/ J
