, `2 _( M* A& y0 P. OEDMONTON — The West Edmonton Mall has reopened after police investigated a suspicious package Tuesday morning.

. ~0 h6 m/ l" K) h, O! tThe item, which turned out to be a DVD player, was reported to police just after 8:30 a.m. and officers swooped in to shut down entrances to the shopping centre.* d- ]0 {* O3 j4 X
8 {5 U/ Y7 h4 sPolice evacuated the mall, and a short time later determined the package was merely a DVD player left on a bench outside the SportCheck store.9 A! z1 U4 I9 r

"I think we made a very measured response and dealt with the safely issues appropriately," said Staff Sgt. Steve Jones. "We just contained an area within the mall."
