Edmonton home builders working 'flat out' to meet demand

Edmonton home builders say they are working non-stop to meet a demand they haven’t seen since the boom of 2005.

Builders started construction on 468 new single detached homes last month, a 34 per cent increase from August 2013.

“Right now we're running flat out, we’re building as much as we can,” said Rob Busby, construction manager for Landmark Homes./ a. B2 e& D' S9 ~0 q
* u5 W+ i+ D, M- GThe increased demand is due to strong job and population growth, according to Christina Butchart, senior analyst with the Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation.- ?' o$ U8 m% {; S

“If you look at the number of people who are moving into Edmonton, it’s record high levels so that’s contributing to that expanding demand,” she said.
