Except as otherwise permitted under this Act, a person shall
6 J& b) E) a( c+ K& ?6 [not do any of the following:% s/ `4 p+ e' K C
(a) drive a motor vehicle on a highway unless the motor' u1 v- X5 y. M$ {$ ~" X
vehicle is an insured motor vehicle;
, t3 b( ~: Y6 ~$ N2 P1 Y# x(b) have a motor vehicle on a highway unless the motor
- b2 d5 c4 e9 e8 I f3 ]1 Rvehicle is an insured motor vehicle;" M* ?# L+ d" Z
(c) where a person is the registered owner of a motor vehicle, N4 g K2 u$ J* ]- D6 A6 K& {, d
permit another person
" k& k; X k+ I& ^/ c+ I, n(i) to drive the motor vehicle on a highway, or
- n6 r6 v b0 W; V; e(ii) to have the motor vehicle on a highway,1 _! a H1 }/ Q% k- E
unless the motor vehicle is an insured motor vehicle;2 _+ ~; q. H* `
(d) give or lend a financial/ U( \! |. @7 f, k$ }& |$ i* I3 }
responsibility card or a copy of it3 ?/ D0 g" p1 ~: o) |$ @) Y7 b, e5 U
to a person not entitled to have that financial- i- w, {* d9 u7 v2 u% O
responsibility card or copy.3 c; x2 \# ]& [: n" P
(1.1)# S0 B. u( P, a
If a person drives or has a motor vehicle on a highway
' h, z3 ?+ C4 x) wwithout the expressed or implied consent of the registered owner of
, ]0 ?* T3 A& g, F4 E* C* |2 d0 _9 Lthe vehicle, that person is deemed for the purposes of subsection* U b K) O, [2 W; u3 ?
(1)(a) or (b) to drive or have on a highway a motor vehicle that is
d A9 q- b) w' L, `; }5 \not an insured motor vehicle.6 \" u; R2 s, I0 N' O: t
(2)! z' W& G3 P% @% T. C# A0 Z8 a
If the registration of a motor vehicle is suspended under this* q2 p: w; Y3 b% |& o1 H0 Z3 G& m% _
Act, the motor vehicle is still registered for the purposes of this' F7 Y0 ^5 `) z
section.

Subsection (1)(a) and (b) do not apply to a person to whom a: x( H5 ?, Y. j& s
financial responsibility card has been issued pursuant to the) d( `6 _6 I! G5 i
Insurance Act
% V1 x& z F* o0 Bby an insurer who has issued an owner’s policy: L5 Z6 D+ N/ e$ H! M9 d
outside Alberta.
* x: z- i4 M l% P; A(4)
* L1 X3 L4 }/ w6 R9 HA person, other than a corporation, who contravenes subsection3 \) L5 u6 G6 P3 K
(1) or section 52(1)(h) or 167(8) is liable,
9 ]4 }' C6 S9 i. V& b(a) for the first contravention, to a fine of not less than $2500
. Q6 ^1 ?! n* E) d0 v4 Z$ ?% p' F$ Wand not more than $10 000 and in default of payment to
* q( H0 V# S3 U/ Z$ Zimprisonment for a term of not less than 45 days and not
5 K! i0 a1 B) Q0 A7 `( N) J: Dmore than 6 months

Minimum $2500, if you don't pay, you will go to jail for a minimum of 45 days. |
