+ W* X2 r) P6 H: B
) ?' ^: T* C) t
        1. I couldn't care less.
/ m9 c2 b3 ]# O+ [( T
, A" Z7 I$ \' q 这句话的意思是“我不在乎”,“缺乏兴趣”(lack of interest),也就是:I don''t care at all. 或 I don''t give a hoot. 例如: - q: I9 l0 ?& [+ o
3 N9 q% e8 T7 U! K+ P8 V" O
What do you think of the budget-cut?(你对预算削减有何看法?) 0 E4 u7 `2 z! \/ [1 _* V
, Z. T' W: L( a
  F  x3 [8 a5 {' V7 O9 ?
6 d- k6 V- t  X" X0 l9 F How do you like Mr. Lee's political point of view?(你喜欢李先生的政见吗?) 6 g* C/ H* t9 B; S- o. T) U- c
. C; p- z* D! k+ C+ t
  I couldn't care less.(我才不在乎呢!)
  V8 O0 Y0 |, S: J1 u! O
: k0 e8 ]8 }! ?9 g9 ?% x9 M9 s0 p) P
I couldn't care less about the promotion or pay raise.(我不在乎升级或加薪)
/ Y/ n& W' l2 Z! G9 f( O" h4 W4 K7 T. N
Yes, you do(care). 2 ]( R9 g( |& a
3 h+ _' ~( x9 [) C% D' z) M
I couldn't care more. 就是“我很在乎”(I care a lot.)或 I care deeply. 同理: 9 ?1 w4 j1 i" N2 @
- I3 G' v8 A4 d' R
  I couldn't agree more.=I totally agree.(我完全同意) 1 R$ |' X9 C; r" K# j# ~
+ _, q- ~6 `# l' P9 F
I couldn't please you more.=I did my best to please you.(我尽量使你高兴)
9 g! O$ T. U6 l% E! c# P
2 G5 v, Y+ w+ }: m I couldn't be more right.=I am totally right. 1 b8 g0 v& L% ~+ y! _" Q& x
1 e" R; y1 E* c8 S& N% I5 ?) x
! V8 x; T. \' t; C& D8 e2 H% s, h! w/ A  }$ f4 y' r% q
  I couldn't be more wrong. 8 x" s& V, x$ e6 ]  I
7 {/ {; {! ^8 W, e
. M  l$ t+ i* I- c4 n
" ?  @$ d$ [# E( e- K/ _
I could care less. = I care to some degree.(care 的程度可能减少)
( k: `+ H/ j' L) Z& }0 H! X) K5 s$ f6 \
  I could care more.=I care some.(care的程度也许增加)(主词可用任何人称代名词:he, she, you, we, they 等。但只用 could,不用 can。)
; F6 |( M, H% Y4 w& t
9 Z' B, B, w6 O 2. No bones about it.
7 H+ ^7 K; w# {- R
% ~( u7 y' B1 o 意思是:真实的,诚恳的(truly, sincerely or exactly),也就是 to make no bones about it.(bone 要加 s, it 是指 something)例如:
# I9 v9 i4 r: }2 D" _0 c9 t
# J- I- B5 L' j, W* F5 f His wife is beautiful;no bones about it.(他的太太真是很漂亮)
+ Y8 r  @( P4 j' O# }
! `8 J8 B+ z# [1 T( N) X3 X8 H8 x  X Mr. A made no bones about it when he talked about abortion issue.(当 A 先生谈到堕胎问题时,他是诚恳的。)
5 b% ?! s/ z3 N# ]5 U; s7 W' Q  v& Z+ L: a' U
  When I spoke on the topic,he said, "No bones about it."(也就是他同意我的看法) - Z; k- g4 |/ V2 w
( M, d5 g4 Q/ J4 l6 `+ c- v
  No bones about it;the weather is very chilly today.(今天是真的太冷了) 8 J: {2 J$ A" z0 k8 m8 q
* ^4 s/ T7 X" `) I" \  z" O
  3. take it on me! + a3 f" E1 x: p1 P. X

- S! K' [$ J6 E$ S7 o8 ^+ ? 意思是:“这是我的,请用吧!”“这是免费的”(help yourself to it; it is free),这多半是指吃的东西或一些不贵重的东西。例如:
, O0 A& U0 s& D, s, b% g
7 }7 Z2 n1 p8 \6 M* D1 O% H Here are some candies from England; take one on me. (one = candy) 6 B$ ~0 ^# y. N. y

# h  K; @* |' q4 J& v4 y The restaurant owner said to me, "Take the dessert on me."
8 b: {9 K8 Z0 W/ r
, \) p8 D, _  W$ S7 V! v+ a. J8 ?; V Please take these pencils on me.(取用一些我的铅笔吧!) * x% u/ ?/ a% [* {) D& N' P
9 C8 d9 x( K" @
3 `7 u' F; g# t* H
9 y9 F2 e" B" o; R, s+ W2 l$ O" O/ u (假如夫妇在一起,也可以说:Take it on us.)
6 P, H. N" K; D2 Y% h" `' q. g( w; b$ x& V
  4. I am from Missouri. 3 i8 M3 J$ X& n' Z2 |) m" I

+ }! O5 L. ?7 E 这句话有时后面要加一句:“I need to be shown.”或“You have got to show me.”,意思是 Missouri 州的人很固执 (stubborn),不太信任别人,一定要人家证明一下(prove it to me),所以密苏里州也被称为“The Show Me State”。
' X5 z+ k7 K- n& [6 ~. u% @# k) q" i2 K6 [9 t
& z- O, y! I7 m1 j7 D" U0 J9 R) u  M( q/ C9 T4 R
He is not easily convinced because he is from Missouri.
4 }- y0 h  g, B5 }
- p# ~% s! A7 M; h8 g Don''t try to fool me; I am from Missouri.(You have got to show me.)
6 A4 u0 |8 J. ^' |
4 N' O* E$ q; S' r) ]/ I8 D We are all from Missouri; we need to be shown.
, L2 j3 p4 s1 I8 r9 W9 f6 X- f! x5 o: h/ D1 j
As Mr. Smith is a tough guy; he must be from Missouri. (Smith
