Speed and power, without compromise. That’s how I’d sum up my impression

now inside a phenomenal, incredibly responsive Nikon machine. At 36.3; u% u9 L' l1 U. C, k: U2 T
megapixels, the D800 produces unprecedented image quality and resolution
) a' Z) @1 r8 J, {' lwithin a body that boasts revolutionary technological advances. The 3D color( D$ `$ p+ Y+ ^
matrix metering III, wide dynamic range and the improved AF performance
: j- D, e3 T. [' c7 e1 jin low light are just a few features that are glaring improvements. The D800
* T9 h4 v* n @: y9 R; eallows me to concentrate on the light, the composition and my subject, a2 G% H) ?( F& ?$ F. X
without having to think about much else. In years past, wedding photography
. A& x2 y& @1 m4 ?/ }# m6 Cwas traditionally captured with medium-format equipment for maximum$ S9 v6 x3 n# e
image quality. When the 35mm format was adopted within the genre, it was
8 U- ^2 U3 o1 y$ i0 pwidely accepted that image quality was compromised in lieu of speed and$ E! G& b2 F; o, B: [" E) w
convenience. Now, my wedding portraiture will have a depth it’s never shown* O. t5 ]* @) y+ J
before, and my style of shooting will be enhanced rather than compromised,
% x6 y3 v8 a* b' K9 H3 ~thanks to the D800.
) x; y$ N( K- z, C; V- t) {5 V9 \3 eWhen I’m shooting beauty and jewelry in the studio or fashion on location,
; V0 G+ x( g4 Q7 P: F36.3 megapixels changes the industry standard: in image quality, dynamic: \) A. i) b+ I& @
range, color rendering and the final print. The detail from the D800 produces
5 x7 e1 I2 s) \8 H5 pthe look of a medium-format camera, but gives me the feel and response of a* e7 O B, X# U+ w* p6 g
D-SLR. The improvements in rendering skin tone and specular highlights, as+ W2 v5 i6 h' K( ]' p
well as fabric and hair detail are superior to anything that has come before.% g7 \ |: \5 z
Autofocus quickly tracks models in motion. Nikon’s 91K-pixel RGB sensor) m M) z' v' N! A5 g
has noticeable improvements in metering accuracy, while the larger LCD is
+ B! V: e5 l( measier to read. The camera body feels solid and ergonomically simple, while
( F( F1 K+ f. f" m v( P4 ~; W) walso feeling lighter and smaller than previous high-resolution Nikons. New
* v$ J* U1 V5 P1 Ocameras always inspire me to test and explore, and all the useful features9 f1 Q- m: E b9 w* X
in such a compact package will open huge creative possibilities for my highquality+ T3 b2 y: K( t2 [0 o
prints and video.) n. l. Z0 P: E: f% @4 Z; B
To me, cameras are more like paintbrushes than technology. The goal is
$ c: f/ ^( W, S4 y. O3 `) \not megapixels or technique but the image, and while camera models F, J3 P5 L+ l5 Y, o: I
are important, they are not the be-all or end-all. But after a lifetime using& R, A% n% b% N' I8 Q
countless cameras, I have found a new best friend. It was not love at first$ v& r7 I: M! T s
sight. The sharpness and detail were initially intimidating, exposing my flaws
6 h1 _3 R1 r) n$ xlike never before. Subtle camera movements showed and differences of, C# m" ~; a5 p" Q* q
acuity between aperture choices on various lenses were apparent. But now I
$ y) }" U! h. A! M v; v, Q4 ^am enthralled with this technology. Why? Because the images almost feel as9 _/ X, h: n* z* i2 J2 H, I
though they were made with a 4x5 view camera! Special features like timelapse
1 y. l" g9 C! L3 Wphotography and the improved HD video quality and flexibility also add1 S' {' @8 ^) N
tremendously to the camera’s personality. After spending a month with the! F5 y% }/ J G% w: f* `
D800, I’ll never be the same again. Perhaps the best compliment I can express3 i/ M2 K* S4 V. l4 I7 }9 K+ Z
is that now I will think differently about the images I make.
7 A2 r3 X% D7 l2 H) E& i8 SAs a modern architectural photographer I am always looking for a lightweight,
2 N7 R6 E: Z& H* rcompact and reliable camera system fulfilling the requirements of my personal
. Y) V* \3 \0 U) E3 martistic and client expectations. The Nikon D800 will set new standards for* E' j* d W$ W3 ~6 R6 R, @
the high-end 35mm D-SLR market. I have never worked with a 35mm digital

quality lenses such as the PC NIKKOR tilt & shift lineup are indispensable for
# y! e; }4 y2 L% Varchitectural photography. From my hands-on experience I found that they
, Z: q& i. O3 H. e! F/ T& lperfectly match with the newly invented system and produce breathtakingly
9 g9 i% z4 K5 [3 E9 |clean, clear and sharp files. This camera gives me the photographic flexibility+ E. w- c% O* |. u$ I3 S* x6 V. u
to work at unusual shooting locations and capture images in an exceptional
