T.A.N.G. Youth Program is an educational and activity-based program aiming to equip
, [6 W% e5 h1 }, O2 O6 A7 u' uAsian youth to make healthy and safe choice. Recreational challenges, volunteering
$ Z' }; S1 B8 |  @1 X& |0 |opportunities, leadership training, as well as educational sessions on
/ k6 m: `0 Q1 _1 o- v$ tinterpersonal skills, anger management, personal development,
* T- m9 }, v1 r" L' Pand  Canadian-Asian culture are some of the ways in which this goal is achieved.

* o6 O/ z/ f$ R! X( y3 m, sWhat will take place in the sessions?* Y$ T% g  N5 E. j8 X+ O
Each session presents concepts through interactive activities that encourage active discussion and participation.) Q1 n! V5 U7 p9 @% F6 d/ v$ v% _

These activities will enable youth to:
  h% A5 N' R3 C; ?' ?$ ^5 {8 G Explore personal interests in arts and recreation
2 V  N& E2 I- v. y Learn how to access community services and programs4 F, L# B4 X' |$ A5 p7 S! j' [* d" @4 X0 }
 Develop self-confidence and problem solving skills
  G+ {! K& R, Q- q0 Z3 W Identify personal leadership strengths …" K, |8 y5 }* R- d

2 e- q1 ]/ |; K4 t* r& g0 N
! v2 E* q9 u' s  K9 A& V2 VProgram Schedule:
! U* R4 K5 z4 P' c& |. cRegular Spring and Fall Group Sessions: runs on alternate Saturday afternoon from 2 to 5 p.m.% p5 y% O/ ~9 p3 u6 p) H! j2 V
Summer Group Sessions: 2 consecutive weeks in July from 9 to 5 p.m. daily
" e( G1 @" F2 [# m5 h                              2 consecutive weeks in August from 9 to 5 p.m. daily
  u4 X$ P% _% k' s: G5 X% n# b6 `& O, \( c
Who can participate?
$ m8 I" p: W! r' WAsian youth aged 11 to 15, who are new immigrants or locally born Asian living in Edmonton or surrounding area.
; O- O) @. E6 q8 f4 r8 V1 K% y5 u6 \" s5 V
What is the cost of joining the T.A.N.G. program?% l0 ?" v# O$ E: x5 J" J4 v
It is FREE and space is limited to 15 to 20 participants per group.
& I9 G+ H& C6 a, _0 K" q' \# [
+ Q8 b" N( @  \
7 f3 J) {4 D8 m- x3 R8 HVolunteer’s Duties:9 G, a5 D2 E& f7 I! P% R, C
+ \  w. Y/ k# ?: p+ r! N' j
 Distribute promotional flyers to schools, churches, communities and social services agencies $ ^+ b9 Q+ o% V. N% s
 Facilitate and/or coordinate   activity-based function such as to host a gym day or sport tournaments or workshop on personal growth development
  Y1 U, [! j) j) A Facilitate or assist in ice-breakers and/or other activities
8 m- |% S. b. B# B Facilitate or assist in small group discussions
, m; v8 j; u# Y Research activities related to the sessions’ topic
2 X1 u, ]0 H7 j' | Enforce safety rules during program sessions and fieldtrips& c/ X* H% A" C4 c
 Assist in program planning5 s# u7 X" m. T. s4 ?4 M" O
 Be a role model0 \$ L9 u5 I0 i7 V

) `7 i9 v( _! h6 J  N8 g2 O5 ^Volunteer Commitment:% o- ~* p& x- ~) N- c% W' |" M9 T! e

: r6 Y5 T+ f1 N9 c& F0 m# k On-going volunteers (we have volunteers dedicated themselves to the program for almost 4 years)
' L3 w8 H2 w4 [) H  U One time volunteers:  minimum commitment is one seasonal session, i.e. 8 – 10 sessions in Spring, Fall or Summer# l8 b1 b4 y1 Q- `; z: S

( L: v0 e. n- E- BAttitude/Skills Requirements:$ f; k, S% Q: i6 l

6 Y" j- B5 c$ ^- O. g. e& n Mature, patient, organized, willing to take and follow instruction from Program Coordinator
+ J4 p% O! [# B5 u$ b7 a Open and willing to initiate and maintain a positive relationship with youth in the program
: K3 j, w3 D* Z  {0 Y. l  l( M A team player; p7 a( ]! I8 R
 Able to work independently with minimum supervision
4 S5 v+ U3 L7 a) c* f! W8 e Value the building on strengths of  children, youth and families9 {4 a; k: V- h7 {, o. G+ X: [0 A
 Willing to work with youth including youth at risk/ F, Q1 g# f  [4 V& W
