T.A.N.G. Youth Program is an educational and activity-based program aiming to equip ' M- ^; N' T7 L$ T+ y
Asian youth to make healthy and safe choice. Recreational challenges, volunteering
2 f. Y  L! O+ S5 Q( zopportunities, leadership training, as well as educational sessions on
! M$ F4 \+ i# l; m$ C" [! @  Einterpersonal skills, anger management, personal development,
, s% }* ?/ B* t9 f: k" D$ jand  Canadian-Asian culture are some of the ways in which this goal is achieved.

What will take place in the sessions?
/ J$ e7 ~- }- b4 E8 b2 m- N4 cEach session presents concepts through interactive activities that encourage active discussion and participation.

These activities will enable youth to:
: D% }: y, W6 @% v Explore personal interests in arts and recreation5 i+ v2 f/ _8 ^9 K$ I& i9 K& I
 Learn how to access community services and programs
( `& j3 ]3 w' V# t5 k" O) V  d: m Develop self-confidence and problem solving skills
" C/ T8 p5 h# ~0 e! ^ Identify personal leadership strengths …

9 d" ^3 ^/ @, aProgram Schedule:
$ \4 C& @5 V% L& oRegular Spring and Fall Group Sessions: runs on alternate Saturday afternoon from 2 to 5 p.m.
! p* Z) F* |' O4 uSummer Group Sessions: 2 consecutive weeks in July from 9 to 5 p.m. daily, T+ I6 h+ X6 }; p
                              2 consecutive weeks in August from 9 to 5 p.m. daily

" Y2 K: o! z) S' qWho can participate?  ]% e& u* O( U. @9 }/ a6 b* \
Asian youth aged 11 to 15, who are new immigrants or locally born Asian living in Edmonton or surrounding area.
% k; R( @5 m: e8 j& k3 E$ z6 ~/ H( S6 [8 C2 c6 n, T
What is the cost of joining the T.A.N.G. program?
+ M  X( s! X; S* NIt is FREE and space is limited to 15 to 20 participants per group.

2 {# F/ y3 {7 ]/ ^( x5 p3 a. T( L
Volunteer’s Duties:
1 Z$ @- w  x$ J% H/ F  i6 r! t
  a% i( a" S0 h Distribute promotional flyers to schools, churches, communities and social services agencies
% Y. h) H; {( Q+ G# w Facilitate and/or coordinate   activity-based function such as to host a gym day or sport tournaments or workshop on personal growth development
' w& H; p, Q5 a1 G Facilitate or assist in ice-breakers and/or other activities
# ?6 j! D) f* ~% ?( ? Facilitate or assist in small group discussions" a+ g! t- o( K1 {0 h- E
 Research activities related to the sessions’ topic
; R5 `; d5 ?! t1 h5 z" k Enforce safety rules during program sessions and fieldtrips
4 K( u# R2 E2 E8 u  L( M1 h4 r; @ Assist in program planning
+ M+ V" o8 G/ Y) q3 E Be a role model) A/ P: T0 o4 N$ ~& G& `( r

" [) ^& p: b. @. `, a5 l# ~9 xVolunteer Commitment:
7 |. v1 q1 H+ Z2 b ' Q! d7 ]4 G( b8 ~  d
 On-going volunteers (we have volunteers dedicated themselves to the program for almost 4 years)) X* [9 Y% l; O' t3 t/ A4 q4 y
 One time volunteers:  minimum commitment is one seasonal session, i.e. 8 – 10 sessions in Spring, Fall or Summer, V" r; x6 u* _- u8 O3 e" t% f( K

 Mature, patient, organized, willing to take and follow instruction from Program Coordinator
# }, e/ a0 A% v8 [) O( D6 g Open and willing to initiate and maintain a positive relationship with youth in the program8 O8 t$ o; j3 B$ W1 g
 A team player
( \9 \  O# u! C( o Able to work independently with minimum supervision; F( {- P; E8 j+ e! C8 t8 w
 Value the building on strengths of  children, youth and families! U8 Q4 B/ v( o9 I5 {
 Willing to work with youth including youth at risk4 j0 J$ [: K. a$ J5 H
