Roles and Functions
# _6 A0 m, S2 i' k' v/ K% ^The Coordinator is responsible for the over-all management and operations of the% v' F+ {- w* i: L M `+ G
organization. The Coordinator defines the objectives, policies and goals for the
* ?: ?. O! h# l soperations of the organization staff within the general board policies. He/she has. X# l# }8 U, F: R* L; u
the important responsibility of accurately reporting on financial progress,
: W/ P/ S! |* J% |operational concerns, organizational problems and accomplishments at regular
% f- y! p4 T2 p' aboard meetings. Short-range planning is the responsibility of the Coordinator and is+ Z& ]/ D1 d3 } ?+ `
conducted within the policy guidelines of the board. The Coordinator is an" l2 K0 W( C1 X- o& d/ o( k
employee of the board and therefore should not be part of the board which hires
$ k- P. S1 W1 [: ^staff and sets their salaries. However, the Coordinator should be required to attend
, i$ _# A9 J! H5 I* @" s& F, }- G6 Fall board meetings and be an active, nonvoting participant.7 v `3 L; j4 m2 n" ] D1 I

The specific functions of the coordinator include the following:
8 l+ @& ~' ^( x4 u1. Provides over-all coordination of Coalition activities in consultation with the* J+ k/ {5 i; @' r
officers of the Coalition
- ~! a+ G( O8 S6 S) U, ^) j7 T2. Builds and sustain relationships and partnerships with ethnocultural
( \: Q+ y0 ?+ P( F& sorganizations, immigrant and refugee communities, voluntary organizations
9 V4 n' W" Z* H9 k0 V4 S: zand public institutions
" c5 w9 t& P/ Z3 l1 j3. Seeks opportunities to ensure sustainability of the organization through
- }8 i. N& I2 Cfunding opportunities and maintaining initiatives3 V, i9 O& V' a! S$ s* w
4. Liaise with funders, public and non-profit organizations and community3 W+ I1 `4 X& v$ U
organizations as well as the media and build strategic relationships with

! O" g3 R3 A4 Q& c5. Promotes transformative leadership among formal and informal community

with groups and communities with culturally, ethnically and linguistically* V" D4 k7 H4 e% o) ^8 g" ~
diverse backgrounds, ?6 K( L$ q- J+ x4 j; M% [, b+ u6 x

Administrative responsibilities:4 J1 G5 X" K \
1. Maintain an adequate bookkeeping and accounting system; provide for its# ^8 n0 N3 U4 A+ a" I8 g; Q8 q
regular examination by competent outside auditors, selected by the board of6 g$ U+ m8 Y% t/ P, B1 O+ ]
directors, and at the regular annual meeting, present a statement to the, g- n: @5 D5 h* P* A
members of the Coalition’s financial condition.
# _7 ?. l) t V+ v# a0 n/ C6 k% T2. Recruits and hires staff for programs and other initiatives of the. Y8 _7 {2 M6 ~& Y Z

. J! r0 E( B2 }; |3 DRelationship of the Coordinator to the Board
s5 {/ M, X1 J9 e8 C0 n+ ZAll operating decisions, employing and supervising personnel, choosing ways to
0 d4 }7 D* ]/ f) E. b+ P7 I; d6 Timplement policies, planning the Coalition’s day-to-day activities, and coordinating1 W2 c4 H' B" F, E* U
operations are a part of the Coordinator’s responsibility.1 H% H$ \6 `- u% p+ W8 Z
The Coordinator shares some responsibilities jointly with the board, such as longrange planning. The Coordinator usually provides the initiative and then assists the board in decision-making. The purpose, future directions, broad basic policies, and
$ q% V7 x. s1 f" ]) s9 `$ Daims and objectives of the organizations are decided upon by this process. It should+ H' w4 _; M! \
be noted that the board members make the policy decisions guided by membership
3 M: P) q+ z1 W% Uparticipation and the Coordinator should confine his or her activities to helping and9 |- a: b! I7 D4 f
facilitating this process with the Board. The Coordinator attends all board of
1 E2 M' N9 t( i) C9 jdirectors' meetings and make available a business report and a monthly financial2 V0 m2 F( X4 c5 B# q* }) @
statement as a minimum requirement. She/he brings to the board's attention all
( v6 T* p( Z, l R! G( @matters requiring board consideration and action. She/he confers with the board of
3 B3 A3 [$ G1 \6 ndirectors on the development of new policies and appraises the effectiveness of
$ ?; R2 F3 L' Q. G) v4 o, ]policies already adopted
