% `8 ^; O" E: B" ]5 xThe Coordinator of the Multicultural Coalition
: i+ @7 S7 ?% \Roles and Functions0 Z+ z+ A+ x5 h
The Coordinator is responsible for the over-all management and operations of the9 |5 k* ^( E( J) z m r- ]
organization. The Coordinator defines the objectives, policies and goals for the6 @, y, d. _3 M# }; a! U4 M
operations of the organization staff within the general board policies. He/she has& l c6 t6 W/ ^
the important responsibility of accurately reporting on financial progress,
* \; k3 s% R4 poperational concerns, organizational problems and accomplishments at regular
1 `: Y* I/ \+ ~& l1 }board meetings. Short-range planning is the responsibility of the Coordinator and is
$ z& a3 @+ R: o; Jconducted within the policy guidelines of the board. The Coordinator is an! I* i& e9 a; B. J! W
employee of the board and therefore should not be part of the board which hires
$ c" I8 f/ O, W& dstaff and sets their salaries. However, the Coordinator should be required to attend% |4 _% P! B" A1 ]+ Q$ }
all board meetings and be an active, nonvoting participant.

The specific functions of the coordinator include the following:
. M" q. c e; M- _( q1. Provides over-all coordination of Coalition activities in consultation with the6 R/ `2 A. c+ K1 w

2. Builds and sustain relationships and partnerships with ethnocultural
- [: p6 ?6 J+ Q0 {) E+ V; h% w1 E- Worganizations, immigrant and refugee communities, voluntary organizations
/ J! c% `; P O) b$ O, iand public institutions0 C: _, ]( j. k" M5 `- J3 d8 B
3. Seeks opportunities to ensure sustainability of the organization through$ J: R3 [+ G$ W% k% a! V
funding opportunities and maintaining initiatives
: @1 N3 u, o0 W! `6 A4. Liaise with funders, public and non-profit organizations and community6 s+ i0 m/ |: V# @
organizations as well as the media and build strategic relationships with

5. Promotes transformative leadership among formal and informal community- K7 j: Q1 b u0 [+ r9 K. O

6. Advances the community animation process as a bridging strategy for civic* D5 q( J$ f8 K7 H' Q' G2 a! w. f
participation of ethnocultural communities with the larger Canadian society3 {! Q# R& }: U0 G$ t
7. Offer opportunities for service providers to learn and experience working

Administrative responsibilities:
7 ~$ T4 ` M4 J* j6 v- u" o1. Maintain an adequate bookkeeping and accounting system; provide for its
, z7 U# N, q8 U5 d4 nregular examination by competent outside auditors, selected by the board of
: f) @9 c6 L. T. X3 f, Odirectors, and at the regular annual meeting, present a statement to the
. e, b4 M1 I0 H d, C5 u1 b9 fmembers of the Coalition’s financial condition.! G3 e/ Y! T Y7 x7 o0 z2 h
2. Recruits and hires staff for programs and other initiatives of the5 h1 U( K, K7 c! ? v

Relationship of the Coordinator to the Board! t0 T! B4 i0 p0 l( O9 `
All operating decisions, employing and supervising personnel, choosing ways to; W0 B/ |( _0 g5 g) j4 O
implement policies, planning the Coalition’s day-to-day activities, and coordinating" N' W1 |, `5 j% ?! N. ]
operations are a part of the Coordinator’s responsibility.+ [ y7 n* ^+ C7 [8 c, e5 `: D
The Coordinator shares some responsibilities jointly with the board, such as longrange planning. The Coordinator usually provides the initiative and then assists the board in decision-making. The purpose, future directions, broad basic policies, and
& s) u* V; z; Z- r5 w. @& P# W& kaims and objectives of the organizations are decided upon by this process. It should) a. J8 c: z6 Q' v
be noted that the board members make the policy decisions guided by membership; c. q% r" I/ ^$ s( T0 U
participation and the Coordinator should confine his or her activities to helping and
; A; F2 L" P6 [; Efacilitating this process with the Board. The Coordinator attends all board of' b" ]1 ?! j0 k5 p0 M1 ^
directors' meetings and make available a business report and a monthly financial% h z! m4 C2 A0 a
statement as a minimum requirement. She/he brings to the board's attention all8 g8 b; p8 k9 R' r$ O5 w/ R) l# X
matters requiring board consideration and action. She/he confers with the board of$ h w, @5 Z& z+ P
directors on the development of new policies and appraises the effectiveness of

4. Experience in administrative work with a proven ability to multi-task and

This is a 9-month contract starting April 11, 2011 to December 31, 2011, with
