The Coordinator of the Multicultural Coalition
$ `1 [8 t% M# c- n: `0 I, `2 IRoles and Functions
J* c4 e. Q8 `. C# UThe Coordinator is responsible for the over-all management and operations of the1 ~) r8 s2 ?- J: F
organization. The Coordinator defines the objectives, policies and goals for the
. S, }0 R3 T* n1 ]# _operations of the organization staff within the general board policies. He/she has. z# E( Q2 x( Q# I4 J: f
the important responsibility of accurately reporting on financial progress,
. b g# @# q/ i G3 noperational concerns, organizational problems and accomplishments at regular$ q4 }* [7 R/ h! a( W7 N2 s
board meetings. Short-range planning is the responsibility of the Coordinator and is
& |& Q! i# L2 b$ `- N, \' t0 Yconducted within the policy guidelines of the board. The Coordinator is an. _) e C5 C. p3 @! u) \
employee of the board and therefore should not be part of the board which hires0 ?! \# W x S/ k
staff and sets their salaries. However, the Coordinator should be required to attend5 h6 D0 \5 t b7 \
all board meetings and be an active, nonvoting participant.

Functions and responsibilities:

2. Builds and sustain relationships and partnerships with ethnocultural2 P4 y- }) o* {' C' x: a# X
organizations, immigrant and refugee communities, voluntary organizations, f/ q- E* H7 q
and public institutions
# O! r7 h: Y( Q9 h& u, e! X8 T3. Seeks opportunities to ensure sustainability of the organization through8 o: r7 C6 Y/ P- A
funding opportunities and maintaining initiatives; ~ ?" k. P- x$ ~! l- R
4. Liaise with funders, public and non-profit organizations and community- R6 C, ?0 i& ~' d5 \/ n
organizations as well as the media and build strategic relationships with, a( z% a+ C! n: ^" Q8 P

1. Maintain an adequate bookkeeping and accounting system; provide for its4 x0 f1 O- Z' u/ }. U
regular examination by competent outside auditors, selected by the board of
/ o; }; j7 g0 G$ g |directors, and at the regular annual meeting, present a statement to the

2. Recruits and hires staff for programs and other initiatives of the8 n) A+ H9 O. v8 l- d

/ b5 L9 C# y1 \( B; K7 IAll operating decisions, employing and supervising personnel, choosing ways to
! [" k" W/ x& Bimplement policies, planning the Coalition’s day-to-day activities, and coordinating
, r$ \$ B/ m/ g+ c1 u" d/ D6 C& Woperations are a part of the Coordinator’s responsibility.3 d% U( T2 d7 k, I' E( b$ l8 d
The Coordinator shares some responsibilities jointly with the board, such as longrange planning. The Coordinator usually provides the initiative and then assists the board in decision-making. The purpose, future directions, broad basic policies, and
# X( c9 k4 T( i% n6 X$ B# Kaims and objectives of the organizations are decided upon by this process. It should
7 i5 }1 Q) k4 H! Z9 N1 l$ ibe noted that the board members make the policy decisions guided by membership; @ F( R9 d( S( d5 I( k
participation and the Coordinator should confine his or her activities to helping and
2 j. r* H# ]4 l$ P+ X5 N1 Hfacilitating this process with the Board. The Coordinator attends all board of
; c# j/ e' V' T0 Rdirectors' meetings and make available a business report and a monthly financial% E- p1 ?: H4 \& L% x9 i8 b
statement as a minimum requirement. She/he brings to the board's attention all

This is a 9-month contract starting April 11, 2011 to December 31, 2011, with
