The Coordinator of the Multicultural Coalition5 M( P1 ^; ~' ]! u( m8 }
Roles and Functions
0 t+ N+ j+ [8 _3 D& m5 y* z4 {& bThe Coordinator is responsible for the over-all management and operations of the
* V- k4 O" D) s: Jorganization. The Coordinator defines the objectives, policies and goals for the7 f& M. a9 ?" b8 O+ J% J
operations of the organization staff within the general board policies. He/she has
0 v! l; W- z6 j2 B* m, T [the important responsibility of accurately reporting on financial progress,, J8 A0 ]" f4 L4 `2 c4 C; W, f1 \
operational concerns, organizational problems and accomplishments at regular, K8 r! V3 \& Q5 X% S" H
board meetings. Short-range planning is the responsibility of the Coordinator and is4 n" _1 Q) U' Q7 Q
conducted within the policy guidelines of the board. The Coordinator is an
/ e1 X. w# B' a q; l8 q( gemployee of the board and therefore should not be part of the board which hires
7 w9 }: ?# o X" u4 P$ hstaff and sets their salaries. However, the Coordinator should be required to attend5 Z7 S% v+ U9 N
all board meetings and be an active, nonvoting participant.

Functions and responsibilities:, ^9 _8 A. Q" ~! d B3 P6 F( M. ]
The specific functions of the coordinator include the following:' ~ S) {7 [% P1 ^) ~. ]
1. Provides over-all coordination of Coalition activities in consultation with the) ^$ [4 |8 V% n
officers of the Coalition
) Y3 H" J! V8 h0 [2. Builds and sustain relationships and partnerships with ethnocultural; Q" D( e" G1 P' a, Z7 N5 \6 s$ l% \6 K
organizations, immigrant and refugee communities, voluntary organizations2 u0 _7 F7 o7 V6 Y! [1 Q
and public institutions* z' S) \' U7 s+ _2 m- n
3. Seeks opportunities to ensure sustainability of the organization through3 X; r! H" }7 p5 M' e' q$ f
funding opportunities and maintaining initiatives
1 x: }: L8 o5 \+ ?# R4. Liaise with funders, public and non-profit organizations and community; X, c+ Z. {3 E1 d$ S
organizations as well as the media and build strategic relationships with

5 |0 O% {! T% J+ Z2 Z6 _5. Promotes transformative leadership among formal and informal community

6. Advances the community animation process as a bridging strategy for civic* Y2 w# {9 z" M* F, {! \9 z) }! i# t
participation of ethnocultural communities with the larger Canadian society
$ P6 M& E7 z, }* x7. Offer opportunities for service providers to learn and experience working
( u+ w' S* S% u3 C* uwith groups and communities with culturally, ethnically and linguistically; }5 I& a, Z0 M% l8 Y/ V% ?

Administrative responsibilities:
1 g8 v7 e, s2 v1. Maintain an adequate bookkeeping and accounting system; provide for its
1 H; ?# t q- L( c; k( W1 E# uregular examination by competent outside auditors, selected by the board of
. E! l) K' D* j, l3 r9 R3 `& adirectors, and at the regular annual meeting, present a statement to the" H3 |5 X' w$ O2 B6 o' J8 o
members of the Coalition’s financial condition." s( p; g; e" \5 Y
2. Recruits and hires staff for programs and other initiatives of the9 s# W. W; J/ w! {$ U1 V4 p' n$ N" Z
Multicultural Coalition
/ y& T) \) O6 SRelationship of the Coordinator to the Board; j1 G1 e7 q; L9 X) d# o( M
All operating decisions, employing and supervising personnel, choosing ways to! v$ X4 H$ m; ]0 _; i, V
implement policies, planning the Coalition’s day-to-day activities, and coordinating
1 j4 G% a( Y8 b( soperations are a part of the Coordinator’s responsibility.
6 z3 c4 r# b6 v* T: u* h3 sThe Coordinator shares some responsibilities jointly with the board, such as longrange planning. The Coordinator usually provides the initiative and then assists the board in decision-making. The purpose, future directions, broad basic policies, and
" y, ~" |8 @9 z5 {3 }- i/ O# paims and objectives of the organizations are decided upon by this process. It should1 }' d0 H2 q7 i$ d, C
be noted that the board members make the policy decisions guided by membership# B" t* Y c, |+ r! u
participation and the Coordinator should confine his or her activities to helping and y S# g- g2 E" x% @& r b
facilitating this process with the Board. The Coordinator attends all board of2 t% G( S. P: ~6 B) ]
directors' meetings and make available a business report and a monthly financial
( M7 x( P" k$ J5 Rstatement as a minimum requirement. She/he brings to the board's attention all+ l' F9 s& F6 L. H0 ]
matters requiring board consideration and action. She/he confers with the board of- {; A0 [# F9 ?, ~
directors on the development of new policies and appraises the effectiveness of

This is a 9-month contract starting April 11, 2011 to December 31, 2011, with
