The successful Executive Director (ED) will combine a woman centered perspective, strategic
% ~# z/ k9 f7 ]! \  M, E" L. Gthinking and be both enthusiastic and an outstanding communicator / relationship builder to lead & Q/ |, B3 a2 W' G8 S- M3 C
this multi-service agency.  With over 200 staff and an operating budget of $8 million, YWCA
: Y: V/ f% g; S) n* Y. SEdmonton often acts as a catalyst for developing innovative services within the City and
, q& i- @/ o6 i* ?2 \2 ]surrounding region.  Through generous support from a variety of funders and donors, YWCA , V7 {2 N5 S- q+ d( w$ n
Edmonton annually assists over 9,000 people with programming that reflects the diversity of the 0 U7 g/ b0 q7 y& k; a0 V3 F& k

Responsibilities ! S+ l" O0 y; `& Y+ G

Reporting to the Board of Directors, the ED is responsible for development, evolution and 2 W+ \, \9 j( O, ~/ K
execution of the YWCA Strategy
: E* u8 r9 s: o( b  q* P& c . o8 L" b& e$ P4 s1 o( r+ T
Specific responsibilities include:  
" ?: a, r* f- k: m
) K6 w9 v) e# O5 l9 m# j" x5 S' h•  Providing leadership, general supervision, management and control of the operations of ! F6 ^1 F. P" I) H
the YWCA on a day-to-day basis in accordance with the plans and policies approved by
% e, \7 S3 g2 e. E& Qthe Board of Directors;  
* ]; N# a$ T' `3 y•  Reporting to the board on a timely basis all relevant information regarding operations 6 o2 R4 K/ p2 k( V  a8 D$ L* w
including financial, policy and personnel issues and provides information necessary to
4 [; N0 g9 i, P+ i; B( menable the Board to exercise their responsibilities;
* }+ Z- q$ W! o! j+ p* m7 v•  Contributing to the development and achievement of the 1 -3 year operational plan and 9 T1 x$ [/ Z. \% p& N: h
objectives ensuring that the plan is consistent with the strategic directions established by 9 Y; p" f% M/ G* b3 C( \
the board;  $ Q: q( G% {: l4 w$ p
•  Developing and executing the annual operational and capital budget;  
  a( M; @! Q6 _9 n•  Nurturing relationships with key stakeholders and community organizations to champion 7 k2 q+ w! ~0 O
the development, implementation and successful execution of YWCA service offerings;
7 K4 Q2 ?" h) o/ T" x# h4 o•  Reviewing existing policies and programs to recommend new or revise to meet the
' k6 e+ s- ^/ C* Schanging needs of the organization and community; ) z8 P1 o5 U- n7 K5 @( ?7 a- ]
•  Identifying, qualifying and initiating opportunities to meet the current and growth revenue
7 _# H1 y% x2 y9 j. |1 acommitments; 8 |" D: d& ~7 W9 a5 Q2 {( I
•  Overseeing contract negotiation with various stakeholders;  
5 U' A7 N5 `3 r- H•  Fostering an environment of fair treatment of employees and volunteers through effective
. u8 t1 L3 A! [" W9 W3 jselection, development, motivation, retention and appraisal systems;  . L4 o! G: `3 i* Y- u5 |7 ?; q. V
•  Encouraging the development of high-performance team members motivated to succeed;
: s8 W$ \% C. z& f+ t1 t- ^( ^9 y•  Enhancing the public imagine and working relationship within our community to
" V$ N" r) _4 `! @8 E4 {effectively and positively represent the association; 3 a0 Q* j5 g. W" g0 s1 ~
9 q6 j0 q( G- Z8 ]" k2 ~
•  Identifying the YWCA’s principle risks, reviewing those risks with the Board, and ensuring
' b8 [/ ^0 a$ z/ k' Wthe implementation of systems to manage these risks;  8 o6 k% o7 z* h& J; X( l
•  Establishing, in conjunction with the Board Chair and Board, an annual list of personal + t  F  T: c. |. |+ ]7 {( z
performance objectives (within the context of the strategic plan) to be achieved by the ED 6 C3 _1 a4 e8 h8 h! |- [& w
the forthcoming year;  
) ^2 E( d- M% Y3 \•  Conducting affairs of the YWCA in accordance with the commonly accepted ethical ) \/ R3 p3 Q0 L
practices, consistent with the YWCA Vision, Mission and Values and the policies of ' G$ S# r' K/ }* h
YWCA Canada; and 6 t# `$ t0 Y3 w+ T: o9 X
•  Acting as an Ex-Officio member of the Board, all Board Committees and Board Task
: }* y# e0 Y& S5 F# M% UForces.  
: D  C2 F  M6 Q$ K6 p( v4 [  * L" Y8 n+ p8 I: Q2 ^
Required Skills & Abilities * E* o9 t( M9 `% @, ?! n
•  Ability to develop and understand organizational goals, objectives and operations;
% ]: |7 x/ R( ^6 V0 ^! U•  Ability to construct a convincing business case, express it clearly and gain consensus
4 W6 |! G5 r& n4 ]: Yaround decisions, plans and actions; * ?4 Y5 \4 b# `$ t; ~  j$ t7 x( P
•  Demonstrated knowledge and ability to apply Generally Accepted Accounting Principles; : n) v" }+ \) @$ g8 L
•  Ability to manage and translate objectives into actions, which are specific, measurable 9 a; r* B0 `/ C7 X
and achievable with realistic timeframes; ! U! [4 x5 L) O' r% b
•  Ability to plan, coordinate, and monitor a significant number of functions / tasks
; H3 ^4 x1 U' H. Tsimultaneously;
' @: d. B, h) R* P" G; |# N* Z•  Interpersonal Skills – Exceptional listening and communication skills and ability to build
( g3 G  N, N& l& d% q- I! p% g( xrapport with stakeholders and diverse audiences in a variety of settings; 0 }. r- ~) r" S
•  Experience leading and empowering individuals to become star performers; and

Required Professional Designation / Certification 3 d' G: U7 K4 T$ A1 h
•  Post secondary degree or equivalent experience.
9 n: d8 W: g# u2 R; ] . P/ {) O, L* H# Z; B) R
Required Experience
: p/ P# E% x* [3 }, e' b. Z•  Minimum of 10 years experience managing multi-service non-profit organizations;
: y; x& c% y2 \4 u: J5 Q•  Strong knowledge of government contracts and demonstrated negotiation 0 `- k$ w: A5 s/ {
abilities; 2 F% E6 z6 N9 Y  K
•  Exceptional interpersonal skills including knowledge of Public Relations,
! o* @+ Z, H9 I3 ^8 |1 C5 O) B" p% x5 ANetworking and Fundraising;
- H: u, B6 v$ B$ p" p•  Strong business acumen and familiarity with risk management, budgeting, forecasting $ I/ A$ @! z; N
and financial statements; and
7 L5 Y# T- i/ [& e$ ?  u•  Experience advocating, empowering and championing women and girls from a women
5 ^2 i2 e$ l5 ^; O: M" f' Icentered perspective.
