1 m' F0 ?0 U% IThe successful Executive Director (ED) will combine a woman centered perspective, strategic
2 d  Z8 E' ~1 H- ?thinking and be both enthusiastic and an outstanding communicator / relationship builder to lead 4 {& T4 r6 o- f8 Z4 h2 B
this multi-service agency.  With over 200 staff and an operating budget of $8 million, YWCA - J9 L" N8 [& l) r# G
Edmonton often acts as a catalyst for developing innovative services within the City and & F: i  R# i' a( u. k  n8 m* X
surrounding region.  Through generous support from a variety of funders and donors, YWCA
# e, v+ p: {" aEdmonton annually assists over 9,000 people with programming that reflects the diversity of the

Responsibilities
- x: W; Q6 i4 u 3 \( R2 \% G8 I2 Z
Reporting to the Board of Directors, the ED is responsible for development, evolution and
4 @  W" K+ r% m. f  l( dexecution of the YWCA Strategy
. X) P8 \( ?* c7 C6 H: |5 c1 _
+ a) z, U/ Y+ Z, H5 z. uSpecific responsibilities include:  
5 z& r5 H7 w; z! H% M# v  x 7 t, k5 d: t! q9 g
•  Providing leadership, general supervision, management and control of the operations of
9 }3 k1 `, `3 c, a: L. r$ I, mthe YWCA on a day-to-day basis in accordance with the plans and policies approved by
% M) `2 p" I3 [the Board of Directors;  
" G/ C9 G/ }- V! Y7 v% j+ Z•  Reporting to the board on a timely basis all relevant information regarding operations
' w+ g3 y! ~% D0 L& A2 `4 bincluding financial, policy and personnel issues and provides information necessary to - c, D8 O( V+ ^4 j6 t5 v) F
enable the Board to exercise their responsibilities; 0 [5 u) g. t) ]
•  Contributing to the development and achievement of the 1 -3 year operational plan and ( P9 G, V1 c5 y2 ^4 H
objectives ensuring that the plan is consistent with the strategic directions established by + X# A! m' b5 `! o$ |
the board;  0 W7 |8 x1 P# W
•  Developing and executing the annual operational and capital budget;  
5 Y- T6 e0 b1 W% o& ]! r% F•  Nurturing relationships with key stakeholders and community organizations to champion
( a; P  k* E% K% k  ]. Sthe development, implementation and successful execution of YWCA service offerings;   N3 ^+ S" S" o( B. k. q& e- v
•  Reviewing existing policies and programs to recommend new or revise to meet the 4 g8 z* N& z; U% P8 R
changing needs of the organization and community; ; N4 i: ~1 M% s8 s  t2 ^& t
•  Identifying, qualifying and initiating opportunities to meet the current and growth revenue ( j( O# V# C, d0 V" O# E: K' Z
commitments; ; o5 t0 C2 ^/ m) ?* i, _- H
•  Overseeing contract negotiation with various stakeholders;  : e- Q- ]( j( O, K1 q
•  Fostering an environment of fair treatment of employees and volunteers through effective
9 b' j( U* N& Tselection, development, motivation, retention and appraisal systems;  
, P0 _% C4 H: Q% ~•  Encouraging the development of high-performance team members motivated to succeed;
1 }3 g1 f% O+ e# |•  Enhancing the public imagine and working relationship within our community to
  p$ w7 s* x) z& ~! Ceffectively and positively represent the association;
1 }6 j* `2 g+ ^# e+ [1 ^) t0 ?- d* E
; y8 O* P7 R& D/ a5 ^( H$ X7 q•  Identifying the YWCA’s principle risks, reviewing those risks with the Board, and ensuring
& t4 y# Y) J4 athe implementation of systems to manage these risks;  
+ Z( V4 A: b1 P# y•  Establishing, in conjunction with the Board Chair and Board, an annual list of personal
1 ~; O2 l1 k$ Q7 F4 h7 z1 C4 v$ Sperformance objectives (within the context of the strategic plan) to be achieved by the ED 7 D& K- [# g" @- [
the forthcoming year;  
2 I# T; H) _, ^' A( e$ F•  Conducting affairs of the YWCA in accordance with the commonly accepted ethical 7 x! J8 I- U* G4 [) j: W
practices, consistent with the YWCA Vision, Mission and Values and the policies of
+ c- P! [4 d; D/ v! `! R1 `" y" YYWCA Canada; and
: M. B/ V# h* t/ F+ Y5 ]•  Acting as an Ex-Officio member of the Board, all Board Committees and Board Task & t# Z# v7 [& t
Forces.

2 ^% ~0 H7 S  h5 R& X•  Ability to develop and understand organizational goals, objectives and operations;
' m* H% C+ Z1 a0 J4 c5 q& e5 J5 H•  Ability to construct a convincing business case, express it clearly and gain consensus
. ^! R! s( S5 _; v9 s4 ^around decisions, plans and actions; " p, F  ~$ Z- [, p, K5 R. t
•  Demonstrated knowledge and ability to apply Generally Accepted Accounting Principles; 3 q# w/ j6 Y; J3 t8 `5 J
•  Ability to manage and translate objectives into actions, which are specific, measurable - J3 g3 j0 V6 h
and achievable with realistic timeframes; 8 ^# _6 b; S# h
•  Ability to plan, coordinate, and monitor a significant number of functions / tasks 9 w2 {. t# u* w
simultaneously; 1 P4 k3 i  O& B+ ?6 ]: y
•  Interpersonal Skills – Exceptional listening and communication skills and ability to build
+ I& N% r- m) ?8 T/ drapport with stakeholders and diverse audiences in a variety of settings;
8 H! ]1 h. w9 p2 K2 S5 a5 h& {•  Experience leading and empowering individuals to become star performers; and
/ H" i0 w% X: b•  Superior negotiation skills.

Required Professional Designation / Certification 9 c- d# |& E  ]# T+ l' f% _. {
•  Post secondary degree or equivalent experience.
0 R' _0 c! S) R' W3 K2 ?: k " a9 _: f' g, I; z- z
Required Experience
$ H3 Z- |' J& C# T! o$ o$ \•  Minimum of 10 years experience managing multi-service non-profit organizations;
4 \6 Q; j  B( ], _. X3 x•  Strong knowledge of government contracts and demonstrated negotiation
+ _- L, `# ]$ Q, u. fabilities; 9 j7 X* O; H8 Z$ g/ q
•  Exceptional interpersonal skills including knowledge of Public Relations,
" J9 ]& e2 T% f0 L' YNetworking and Fundraising; * J. Q, v- ^# I& R1 u* H& r
•  Strong business acumen and familiarity with risk management, budgeting, forecasting
; `; }8 B4 ^9 F0 z2 b& j$ T3 Nand financial statements; and + K; g1 c' s- z2 e0 a' O& k+ V
•  Experience advocating, empowering and championing women and girls from a women " a; K6 t" d# B3 l/ r7 [* K) h
centered perspective.
