5 P- _! |% e0 K: l4 A/ ?Dear colleague: once a year, the Waste Management Branch hosts the8 [1 v! K3 N+ _8 x, ~! e
Master Composter-Recycler Program. Over a 3 weeks course schedule9 f# C+ j7 |$ ^0 `) u- m3 V
(Tues./Thursday evenings and Saturday) volunteers will learn about9 U/ m4 K' y! M1 x" y- l
environmental stewardship in our city, such as: history of waste
: w: m& e# Y/ Z# `% J c7 _# Wmanagement; home composting; household hazardous waste;
; g% O' Q# v I' j Mvermin-composting and residential recycling.
1 I% q" c @+ Z1 \( r6 U8 {1 i g
This course offers in-class instruction as well as several field trips3 {# V; A6 F+ E; I
to various City facilities. After finishing the course, graduates9 u t) G' J0 w6 E9 A5 F8 ?- P( u
complete 35 hours of volunteer activity promoting the four R's:2 l4 P. {7 l: j+ k" n, F' q
reduce, reuse, recycle and recover. Graduates become important% d* A. O: c) z8 v4 s( f
resources in their communities as they broaden awareness about the
( x9 L h) i- G* ? x8 ?0 _importance of composting and recycling.

Examples of volunteer activities include: help with Reuse Fairs & the
5 b8 `1 x( d9 M& A* n9 PReuse Centre; helping friends/neighbours with composting problems;
$ A1 }5 [6 @' upublic education display booths; assisting with programs and
# D! N) @' V, ~$ X$ Bmaintenance at the City Compost Education Centres; assisting at
5 U, n; N) @; }! gvarious demonstration gardens and general public and school
# R5 u6 v+ E! e- M8 bpresentations.

There are many other opportunities for volunteers to contribute and; F$ l/ |6 w3 J3 y
volunteers are able to choose the opportunities that interest them the& W0 Q% F1 @% B$ w) ^. y. N
