& b+ W8 p# S: W* n& y8 u; n JDear colleague: once a year, the Waste Management Branch hosts the
' A, c& k6 W7 W% ]Master Composter-Recycler Program. Over a 3 weeks course schedule
5 _ ^& Y# D# L3 U- f8 X) \1 e' F(Tues./Thursday evenings and Saturday) volunteers will learn about
3 m; M' g- G; u9 K; G. [, I0 denvironmental stewardship in our city, such as: history of waste" L" z# u! ]! L( t5 u" F
management; home composting; household hazardous waste;3 I1 H& ?% o0 L6 k: k+ M! `
vermin-composting and residential recycling.4 k7 G' k) @1 h% d6 I3 L5 ?& R
+ W0 t5 M/ x9 g( Z
This course offers in-class instruction as well as several field trips- s. g$ p8 ~5 I6 l" v
to various City facilities. After finishing the course, graduates
+ @( C- j, c/ Z- F- lcomplete 35 hours of volunteer activity promoting the four R's:) o& ^, i5 H! e, N
reduce, reuse, recycle and recover. Graduates become important3 l7 e6 f# l6 f: f
resources in their communities as they broaden awareness about the4 b; P( O$ t% y$ X9 n
importance of composting and recycling.

. I/ x: Y( S$ ?) e( wExamples of volunteer activities include: help with Reuse Fairs & the- K" M1 T/ @$ K1 }% a; H$ i
Reuse Centre; helping friends/neighbours with composting problems;
/ v( Y6 Q; K8 m) m* h. c, v- ^& |public education display booths; assisting with programs and4 t' F- B( {4 T5 N! A
maintenance at the City Compost Education Centres; assisting at4 t5 S! S# P3 ]( g
various demonstration gardens and general public and school

There are many other opportunities for volunteers to contribute and

most. Curious about recycling and composting and sharing your; ~( O( m! ^- A _! V
knowledge with others, then apply to become a Master t3 o/ T3 q% U1 q
