# W: Z; D2 [1 q7 m5 e6 fDear colleague: once a year, the Waste Management Branch hosts the( c& ^1 Q5 r2 j" p/ L
Master Composter-Recycler Program. Over a 3 weeks course schedule
3 h/ O. R6 x7 H% \4 j- }(Tues./Thursday evenings and Saturday) volunteers will learn about
0 O e4 S% L+ L- renvironmental stewardship in our city, such as: history of waste
" } M. K: W, a) w; e! d7 xmanagement; home composting; household hazardous waste;
; Z8 h& g$ o- hvermin-composting and residential recycling.
% V# K; J% f9 E( |7 Y2 m; x
T# R$ L% I1 Y+ O& a" |/ F1 ?& `This course offers in-class instruction as well as several field trips1 {: L7 O( ?' P8 O& d8 y! q
to various City facilities. After finishing the course, graduates
$ i/ B8 D0 F- e- R9 r. n3 `complete 35 hours of volunteer activity promoting the four R's:8 M4 z; P" A# r7 B; L4 l( y
reduce, reuse, recycle and recover. Graduates become important
1 |4 p! j& f/ t, b# tresources in their communities as they broaden awareness about the' c# N1 @% ~, k- e
importance of composting and recycling.( O) H6 n. J+ O+ W
d r3 X3 Q% v5 `0 M# o3 _) R2 F lExamples of volunteer activities include: help with Reuse Fairs & the
, N1 H: N" r6 Z. [1 `6 o) |Reuse Centre; helping friends/neighbours with composting problems;* k# O/ Z- t% q. t3 n- m4 F: b1 h! C
public education display booths; assisting with programs and% o. g8 [. L/ [3 p2 g) P7 ^
maintenance at the City Compost Education Centres; assisting at7 B: ^8 b) } R
various demonstration gardens and general public and school% b; M) H3 `% W! }
presentations.' r$ }. w5 g/ r$ l

There are many other opportunities for volunteers to contribute and
& q% p, a' i& K! t+ ovolunteers are able to choose the opportunities that interest them the, j5 O4 B; j& O. N) t

knowledge with others, then apply to become a Master
