Master Composter/Recycler Program / Free!, L; r$ a: _9 O% S7 j3 o: R

Dear colleague: once a year, the Waste Management Branch hosts the6 W2 j- H5 v0 g2 s8 [! f$ ]
Master Composter-Recycler Program. Over a 3 weeks course schedule& e" O5 Q" j9 W4 D t
(Tues./Thursday evenings and Saturday) volunteers will learn about
0 M) G9 @' w" d Y( t$ ], cenvironmental stewardship in our city, such as: history of waste! d" o) z3 h8 _ ] D" u
management; home composting; household hazardous waste;
' ]3 i# F) Z7 Z+ ~' M1 o7 ?' s2 cvermin-composting and residential recycling.4 N7 j8 a/ B9 `* W; G
- d9 J* j1 o q
This course offers in-class instruction as well as several field trips
, D( @, t& b: z# ^8 i- w1 h9 ~to various City facilities. After finishing the course, graduates
. t# z' p. f5 G5 ^complete 35 hours of volunteer activity promoting the four R's:8 k* B K; E% `
reduce, reuse, recycle and recover. Graduates become important0 w, P1 }* w) [
resources in their communities as they broaden awareness about the
% O* r0 ?$ e b1 R$ X" L& T& wimportance of composting and recycling.
$ V$ w# @& W+ w! h7 a% z- ]/ w+ r% }4 {4 s( V
Examples of volunteer activities include: help with Reuse Fairs & the
! c9 L3 I {; p2 O5 o% t- ~Reuse Centre; helping friends/neighbours with composting problems;9 @$ ?% X9 G% @" g D. w& ^# c
public education display booths; assisting with programs and
- V; q+ p2 X! n0 R3 \' \maintenance at the City Compost Education Centres; assisting at* u( I( M# a) g' U6 H. `! m
various demonstration gardens and general public and school
: M2 G- m! k- L) @- t# O4 f7 lpresentations.

There are many other opportunities for volunteers to contribute and
5 }0 b! W6 Y8 x C5 f5 a/ Tvolunteers are able to choose the opportunities that interest them the
