SCOPE OF THE CONSTRUCTION ELECTRICIAN OCCUPATION& _; b( g0 l9 d9 E5 U
The title “construction electrician” defines a person who, because of his or her knowledge, K" d# D: C0 a6 J0 l
training and abilities, is capable of laying out, installing, testing, troubleshooting, and repairing electrical+ M. Y7 m# m3 j5 N6 B. U
systems, which provides light, heat, communications, and power to a variety of new and existing! Q3 r8 T" z0 u5 r6 i" F/ K+ V
residential, commercial, and industrial structures.1 P* o2 P8 p8 w1 _3 w5 t" \ `
Construction electricians read and interpret electrical, mechanical, and architectural drawings1 Y. T$ ?! H7 e' Y+ V6 K
and electrical code specifications to determine wiring layout. They cut, thread, bend, assemble, and& b: Z, c9 a$ E& t
install conduits and other types of electrical conductor enclosures and fittings. They pull wire and cable
+ z# b2 r( w$ A/ Z9 hthrough conduits, position, maintain and install distribution and control equipment such as switches,% R; U5 Q9 O% M9 I
relays, circuit breaker panels, and fuse enclosures, install single and multi-wire cables above and1 F4 X: _, S3 c# B
underground, install data cabling, and install and maintain fibre optic and signalling systems.

manufacturing plants. The work often requires considerable standing, bending, crawling, lifting,

Construction electricians are required to have good mechanical ability, a thorough( Y3 E- T8 h& [5 X% g1 Q
knowledge of the principles of electricity, circuitry, and power distribution systems, and familiarity with6 R! D# n9 k) W
the materials and techniques of construction. All construction electricians are required to be competent in

audio, video, signalling, and communication cabling. Electrical control systems are also becoming more
