. u0 Z0 o ?; W4 ?; _; TThere are no changes in the way Albertans register for publicly-funded health care. However, as announced in the 2008 budget, health premiums have been eliminated as of January 1, 2009.

; J; c" M7 v+ _- M( DPayment and collection of health care premiums owed prior to January 1, 2009 will continue under these guidelines:

1. All Albertans are responsible to pay premiums unless they qualify for premium assistance, government-sponsored income support programs, or are senior citizens.' y( S/ B7 e) h
2. Employers and benefit administrators who register and pay premiums on behalf of their employees will continue to do so.
3 K# ~! m6 @$ z( _. m 3. Alberta Health and Wellness will continue to pursue collections from those who fail to pay premiums.% C2 P: U! M; C E" l5 t
4. Contributors to Alberta Blue Cross or other supplementary insurance plans that provide prescription drug, dental, and other extended coverage, will still pay those premiums, as they have not been eliminated.
