Duties

    * Develops, implements, monitors, and evaluates programs and services to address the unique educational and social needs of lesbian, gay, bisexual, trans-identified,two-spirited and queer (LGBTTQ) youth in the Edmonton region
9 Q, l- A, w4 u6 S/ \7 W1 m    * Develops and delivers community-based programming and provides support services for Youth Understanding Youth, Edmonton's sexual minority community youth group
  l7 E8 F6 `6 a# u9 t5 M    * Trains,motivates and supports volunteer adult facilitators4 m3 l4 Q* `2 J- A7 N. C
    * Acts as a resource on LGBTTQ youth issues for Institute staff, community, and governmental organizations
4 l! {' B& [  ?5 ?6 D6 M/ S    * Provides interim quarterly reports and an overall annual productivity report and evaluation to the Assistant Director
% w& S9 i4 q" \# |4 F    * Liaises with the Assistant Director in budget planning and management; monitors project related expenses/ }" `! x1 m, E
    * Advocates to meet the health, social and safety needs of LGBTTQ and questioning youth6 e5 t9 w3 r7 h4 B3 i* x; _6 G/ w3 k
    * Researches and develops a LGBTTQ youth mentoring program. A, Z: X& _8 h+ S
    * Develops, implements and monitors a LGBTTQ youth risk and needs assessment
$ y/ ]" a, R# [    * Develops benchmarks to assist in the evaluation of YUY programming and outreach supports9 ^0 ]  G3 j- h6 z( m6 [
    * Develops promotional materials such as posters, brochures, and displays to promote the youth group and mentoring programs
8 ]: w, p9 x) ~0 i( ~7 n$ \    * Participates in the development of leadership training and educational programming at Camp fYrefly
* Y' \3 Z3 c- D0 @0 n+ r" K! [" j    * Supports University of Alberta campus organizations for sexual minority students and gay-straight student alliances in local high schools and communities

Qualifications
8 R! X2 F% n$ _$ p% m0 Y# G5 S; h8 A
    * Bachelor's degree in education, social work, psychology, or a related professional discipline
' L) s" L3 G& ]( R    * Three to five years experience in community development with a particular emphasis on sexual minority youth
+ d% ^' Z0 x$ J  _    * Knowledge in adolescent development, health and sex education, violence prevention,suicide intervention, alcohol and substance abuse, HIV and STI prevention and harm reduction strategies& B3 J9 s; K2 }6 S  i
    * Experience in developing and providing youth-oriented programs9 }! e* g: j; g' f5 }
    * Demonstrated effectiveness in working with the LGBTTQ community! \. |2 t, n( ~) D7 F/ k, M
    * Fundraising skills an asset
, @7 g* M9 i/ J: t( I    * Demonstrated experience in development of youth group programming, community outreach,volunteer management and training and conflict resolution skills4 M  e$ Q4 f* w' j7 U* `
    * Outstanding group facilitation, training, and counselling skills
% ]( ^1 F# q! y6 G& V    * Proven leadership, and strong team, and relationship building skills
& V0 T* @  J8 x9 d" ^& s    * Excellent communication (oral, written, and web-based), organizational and interpersonal skills
: m& c) i8 N3 X( _5 d6 `& q0 G    * Understanding of other languages and experiences working within Aboriginal and ethnocultural communities an asset
