Duties

, W( s6 g3 c* l. d! e  P    * Develops, implements, monitors, and evaluates programs and services to address the unique educational and social needs of lesbian, gay, bisexual, trans-identified,two-spirited and queer (LGBTTQ) youth in the Edmonton region
9 {6 K7 R/ C2 h2 x: p  p6 Y6 z    * Develops and delivers community-based programming and provides support services for Youth Understanding Youth, Edmonton's sexual minority community youth group
) v* A1 z& T. a+ M5 e+ ?    * Trains,motivates and supports volunteer adult facilitators
    * Acts as a resource on LGBTTQ youth issues for Institute staff, community, and governmental organizations
    * Provides interim quarterly reports and an overall annual productivity report and evaluation to the Assistant Director
) w1 q" P! k. i& |7 l) K    * Liaises with the Assistant Director in budget planning and management; monitors project related expenses
; e  u" z9 M8 S0 ~0 M+ g# R  I    * Advocates to meet the health, social and safety needs of LGBTTQ and questioning youth
4 A2 ~; s0 |+ U# f/ H/ P+ N    * Researches and develops a LGBTTQ youth mentoring program
    * Develops, implements and monitors a LGBTTQ youth risk and needs assessment
; q4 a8 Q$ m  t- }. H& Q4 L    * Develops benchmarks to assist in the evaluation of YUY programming and outreach supports
    * Develops promotional materials such as posters, brochures, and displays to promote the youth group and mentoring programs
    * Participates in the development of leadership training and educational programming at Camp fYrefly
$ R2 w. N) K6 k7 x: `    * Supports University of Alberta campus organizations for sexual minority students and gay-straight student alliances in local high schools and communities
    * Develops a communications and advertising strategy targeting community agencies, youth groups/programs, and schools

$ Z2 ~: a9 U$ U! M, x, l* e& Y: B6 ]( _    * Bachelor's degree in education, social work, psychology, or a related professional discipline
    * Three to five years experience in community development with a particular emphasis on sexual minority youth
    * Knowledge in adolescent development, health and sex education, violence prevention,suicide intervention, alcohol and substance abuse, HIV and STI prevention and harm reduction strategies
    * Experience in developing and providing youth-oriented programs
! ?; b6 [0 b3 L4 K4 u% r7 q    * Demonstrated effectiveness in working with the LGBTTQ community
2 ^/ Y, w: d# `& z  b8 C2 l  O! G    * Fundraising skills an asset
1 I' L/ n' Y4 a- e, t3 Y# W    * Demonstrated experience in development of youth group programming, community outreach,volunteer management and training and conflict resolution skills
    * Outstanding group facilitation, training, and counselling skills
* J/ k0 m- \7 r1 x    * Proven leadership, and strong team, and relationship building skills
    * Excellent communication (oral, written, and web-based), organizational and interpersonal skills
* s3 s% o8 ?' G# t' ~2 o2 X( G    * Understanding of other languages and experiences working within Aboriginal and ethnocultural communities an asset
