Duties

* Provides routine technical and administrative support for sample preparations and mineral separation for isotopic analysis# x$ P( h& V* c2 V7 b8 m
* Conducts mineral separation, sample imaging, grant mount preparation, sample weighing and iron exchange chromatography
, s1 l: m" ?0 C0 w% A m2 b, d * Provides training to graduate students, visiting scientists on preparation techniques5 L) w! n/ `+ _, ~2 A
* Compiles analytical data using standard office software such as Excel, Word and Corel for use by the PI or client4 K. G3 {6 |1 v4 k# _6 ]7 i0 u
* Performs routine maintenance on equipment and lab husbandry9 _9 [$ Z. C9 |: G H2 Y" f
* Orders supplies, maintains lab records, maintain WHMIS records and compliance labeling, maintains lab inventory and safe disposal of chemicals7 _+ ]2 X% t) t+ u' G
* Provides safety training to students, staff and visitors using the lab, k7 ~4 j$ q( K- A! ?! Q: ^: y' T* B
* Provides administrative support by maintaining records, (usage and expenses) and prepares invoices X+ i7 F7 _! Z% p. F
* Assists with laser ablation analyses on the multi-collector inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometer (ICPMS)) K# x5 g# R/ Z, C o
' d8 U* Z* T1 L) z/ OQualifications

x2 V M. f# b' V; ` * Post Secondary diploma in laboratory technology, Chemistry or Earth Sciences; BSc in Geology or Chemistry preferred
4 I; ]6 T8 Y6 E5 c; c& m8 ` * 1-2 years experience working in a research environment (analytical chemistry lab or geochemical lab)
* G: C* L3 G) t( `! \ * Computer proficiency using MS Office applications and Corel
3 M6 n2 ~* S* K; G4 p * A thorough knowledge of lab safety protocols and WHMIS procedures
5 @1 W5 Q% k! ?( D, ~+ m" ?0 x * Experience conducting routine maintenance on standard rock sample preparation equipment6 ~/ N5 V0 B/ l
