The Advanced Materials business unit seeks a Safety Assistant to assist the business unit over the summer months. ! o% {4 V" ^- O6 A5 o; M5 E

Responsibilities include:
0 F! K6 H+ x7 C% m * m1 C2 }# P/ q1 |/ \3 l
1. Chemical list and Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS’s)1 k/ ~- Q9 u+ `6 X. D" \- n" m& p4 g" }
• help complete up-to-date chemical lists for all laboratories within the department) H( n8 E6 u) ]: M0 F* f2 w
• collect and obtain MSDS’s for all chemicals8 a( g0 V; ^$ y/ a; N2 a* R
• make sure all chemicals are properly labelled and stored3 Y7 m8 L/ q, \1 F* L
• proper disposal of all unwanted chemicals
: s5 K, }/ c* m# I% a• finalize chemical lists and then duplicate and label all MSDS’s for distribution to OH&S for the MSDS on line system.

, | M7 M+ B) f+ o6 H2. Standard Operation Procedures (SOP’s) and Hazard Assessments (HA’s)" X. c6 L9 _ N' m% W( F
• help update the department SOP’s and HA’s. This will include verification of existing SOP’s and HA’s and tracking any that are needed./ K2 T, }- u7 L

3. Tracking System
; c1 d ~7 D0 ?/ P2 B5 F• help develop a tracking system for adding or removal of chemicals as well as continual updating and verification of SOP’s and HA’s * Y7 y) ?' p0 q0 Q+ }
* f/ L3 Q6 X8 g1 u7 jCandidates should be inquisitive, thorough, and willing to learn. Some education and/or experience in safety is preferred. Strong communication and interpersonal skills and the ability to work independently as well as in a team environment are required.

This is a two-month summer position, preferably commencing the middle of June, which will pay an hourly wage commensurate with education and experience. Final candidates will be asked to undergo a security screening.$ T" V+ x( K" y% C
