The Advanced Materials business unit seeks a Safety Assistant to assist the business unit over the summer months.

0 N6 T( [! Q, ?: K6 b  f: TResponsibilities include:

- o% J9 L! F) t6 j0 ^" i. B! g9 ?1. Chemical list and Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS’s)
• help complete up-to-date chemical lists for all laboratories within the department
• collect and obtain MSDS’s for all chemicals
• make sure all chemicals are properly labelled and stored
/ Y6 l8 f) a  j• proper disposal of all unwanted chemicals
• finalize chemical lists and then duplicate and label all MSDS’s for distribution to OH&S for the MSDS on line system.
& N6 B( v4 d5 Z- ~6 `, ]6 S
- [6 [- D. ^3 V" j" ~( j2. Standard Operation Procedures (SOP’s) and Hazard Assessments (HA’s)
! m( _- g/ i' E( u3 q. ~• help update the department SOP’s and HA’s. This will include verification of existing SOP’s and HA’s and tracking any that are needed.

• help develop a tracking system for adding or removal of chemicals as well as continual updating and verification of SOP’s and HA’s

) N5 q9 x6 }5 R5 v; bCandidates should be inquisitive, thorough, and willing to learn. Some education and/or experience in safety is preferred. Strong communication and interpersonal skills and the ability to work independently as well as in a team environment are required.

This is a two-month summer position, preferably commencing the middle of June, which will pay an hourly wage commensurate with education and experience. Final candidates will be asked to undergo a security screening.
