The Advanced Materials business unit seeks a Safety Assistant to assist the business unit over the summer months.

Responsibilities include:( ~8 P4 {( N# u& a7 K% Z5 B

1. Chemical list and Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS’s)+ b3 t% S( l$ ` u* ] O
• help complete up-to-date chemical lists for all laboratories within the department- {5 F% m) T5 p
• collect and obtain MSDS’s for all chemicals9 a) T+ Y- m; ?
• make sure all chemicals are properly labelled and stored- S/ K. Y: J2 f" N
• proper disposal of all unwanted chemicals% [6 R% E. Z4 J
• finalize chemical lists and then duplicate and label all MSDS’s for distribution to OH&S for the MSDS on line system.

2. Standard Operation Procedures (SOP’s) and Hazard Assessments (HA’s)
- Y/ a& o$ U# A+ C6 F• help update the department SOP’s and HA’s. This will include verification of existing SOP’s and HA’s and tracking any that are needed.% O Z$ F( X: k0 t, }7 \
/ E0 Y' A! P2 `* h1 M* Y5 X' q3. Tracking System
8 R$ V$ C5 _% y) g; O# X" i2 X• help develop a tracking system for adding or removal of chemicals as well as continual updating and verification of SOP’s and HA’s

$ Q6 |5 S4 x) U/ _; N9 jCandidates should be inquisitive, thorough, and willing to learn. Some education and/or experience in safety is preferred. Strong communication and interpersonal skills and the ability to work independently as well as in a team environment are required.
