The YOUCAN VERTO Project is a Government of Canada funded project that will
# z0 Y; b4 q& N" O" @3 g( b; x7 Sbring 12 (per intake) at-risk youth together into a unique 20 week group-based
. o5 ~" @% `* R8 T+ X7 Zemployability skills program entitled “The VERTO Project”; 16 weeks of day
$ p9 b+ W6 Q- c; t' tprogram and 4 weeks of employment exposure. YOUCAN is an acronym that
stands for Youth Organizing to Understand Conflict and Advocate Non-Violence.
YOUCAN has served youth in the Edmonton area for almost six years and our
mission is to equip youth to engage and inspire others to peacefully resolve
conflicts and develop healthy relationships in their communities. The goal of the
  n: U7 h7 O. t  d2 u& _VERTO Program is to assist participants in obtaining and maintaining the skills
0 L  {, K5 ~; s8 |% tnecessary to bring success into their lives. The program is designed to serve
  g9 T8 Q  c/ G3 A. uyouth who have been involved in the justice system. The program will expose
) b% R# D2 A: g$ _8 g/ Vparticipants to a wide range of components focusing on: employment
) _5 }% u% z7 W* z6 odevelopment, personal wellness, technology learning, conflict resolution and
exposure courses. Additionally, we will incorporate topics around health and
wellness, volunteerism and leadership courses. The youth will be provided with a
0 C3 m7 v" l( x( a6-month employment follow-up once the program is completed.
6 t7 F" C, \! a1 B( `The project will run from 9:30-4:00 p.m., Monday through Friday at the Central
  @% D2 J8 S% C+ `YOUCAN office, located at 8718-112 Avenue in Edmonton, Alberta.
The following position is a one-year contract with the possibility of
extension dependant of funding and performance. Resumes will be

• Responsible for building relationships with employers within the
# q4 p7 d/ g  o+ Dcommunity to partner with YOUCAN to ensure there are employers that are
4 K' h, H9 {; }# k7 ]  Uwilling to expose youth to the current employment opportunities
• Ensure the youth action plans are reflecting the employment goals as
" S# H4 J, T+ Y# @6 f. y- ]being realistic to each youth participant
• Work with the youth to find the appropriate training needed to equip the
youth with the necessary skills needed to find the employment suitable to
4 P: E0 X  F4 Ieach participant
( w" w7 U4 s$ o2 h9 ^" z! A5 K• Assist youth with employment development including the development of
+ V& N4 u2 S2 ~! D# @) a& Lcover letters and resumes etc.
: y, A& h0 k" l! k1 T5 s• Coordinate the employment exposure component and on site work
experience of the project, and monitor the progress of each youth at the
$ u9 J$ v$ j; V# P0 Dplacements
0 k& w  F$ M: k• Conduct the 6 month follow up process for each of the youth, evaluating
- U) U0 n3 i; z' I. H, j; athe process, and supporting the youth where needed
+ L1 d' S$ {0 J5 z5 q: _; L• Work closely with staff of the Verto Project to ensure the holistic approach
is being fulfilled for each youth
• Administrative tasks, such as phone, fax, filing, copying, etc. that are
% d% n7 S% J8 _4 k* T2 @) srelated to YOUCAN’s Verto Project

0 P5 T! X! F3 Y" R$ r" W3 W: S. s: J Post-secondary education or 3 years related experience accepted
0 [* l! M6 B# P2 q& g A minimum of three years relevant experience is required.
3 `/ c' |3 J# ^6 J" s1 N0 y Enthusiastic and energetic innovator who is process-oriented and committed
2 f# G" {0 ?5 \% mto success.
( o$ ~0 [; X' E Strong interpersonal and leadership skills.

 Experience working with youth at risk, and able to assess the needs of youth
% i# g; Z+ Z& `6 @! `, `/ l1 [at risk as it pertains to employment
 Skilled in software applications, computers and other office equipment
 Strong leadership and active listening skills
