The YOUCAN VERTO Project is a Government of Canada funded project that will7 q5 }2 G# G8 x0 E
bring 12 (per intake) at-risk youth together into a unique 20 week group-based
: w' \6 g( ~) L1 R1 ?2 aemployability skills program entitled “The VERTO Project”; 16 weeks of day
6 H0 L1 f, M. t' i! b. z* m& h( tprogram and 4 weeks of employment exposure. YOUCAN is an acronym that: S: Q7 j: ^" z0 M
stands for Youth Organizing to Understand Conflict and Advocate Non-Violence.5 Y# @! \1 u/ v ]. U3 K
YOUCAN has served youth in the Edmonton area for almost six years and our( q0 m, Q0 _, p" E9 c
mission is to equip youth to engage and inspire others to peacefully resolve6 g0 C( J' f- k8 W2 _2 c
conflicts and develop healthy relationships in their communities. The goal of the
7 z# A8 A- {/ ~" }VERTO Program is to assist participants in obtaining and maintaining the skills
. W4 a) x* K3 V; N& p3 [6 G) A! Xnecessary to bring success into their lives. The program is designed to serve1 h/ {- v1 q) c" A
youth who have been involved in the justice system. The program will expose Q( `% p+ W6 s7 ]9 f$ X" P
participants to a wide range of components focusing on: employment
# \# n4 D! G& n) \' Udevelopment, personal wellness, technology learning, conflict resolution and8 c, {& H$ w* m4 b' v. T6 _
exposure courses. Additionally, we will incorporate topics around health and
( |0 A S' c' V. y) gwellness, volunteerism and leadership courses. The youth will be provided with a
+ `4 e6 z, G" v! L$ P+ O0 d% v6-month employment follow-up once the program is completed.3 e- z& x6 k4 X i2 h1 |
The project will run from 9:30-4:00 p.m., Monday through Friday at the Central
# r7 U2 _( H; W, o' b9 b( cYOUCAN office, located at 8718-112 Avenue in Edmonton, Alberta.

& a/ V2 _$ ]4 a4 R* S* q• Responsible for building relationships with employers within the
e! ^/ d5 e7 Q7 \' a4 o% Mcommunity to partner with YOUCAN to ensure there are employers that are$ w3 v0 t& n$ `, L6 a4 ~( j; J. |9 y
willing to expose youth to the current employment opportunities, B6 n! F. C/ [. {
• Ensure the youth action plans are reflecting the employment goals as
( w" q; v4 m5 c0 bbeing realistic to each youth participant6 j# U% J$ q' A3 L9 m1 C
• Work with the youth to find the appropriate training needed to equip the
- U9 {- V. ]' D4 b9 Dyouth with the necessary skills needed to find the employment suitable to
! R& m: m, O; Feach participant. D, `# G! \" a, I
• Assist youth with employment development including the development of* ]6 F6 _* X+ L5 ?
cover letters and resumes etc.
' ]+ J- [+ Q* v" e• Coordinate the employment exposure component and on site work
! u |& h4 @ ]" S* cexperience of the project, and monitor the progress of each youth at the
2 W- ]: m! W0 p Q8 e0 L% wplacements9 R3 r, L9 P0 G+ p2 L
• Conduct the 6 month follow up process for each of the youth, evaluating! D( J' N8 T- R7 U
the process, and supporting the youth where needed
/ @, }8 [/ c0 I \0 X• Work closely with staff of the Verto Project to ensure the holistic approach) a% Y# h! ?5 w7 {( e# x. N
is being fulfilled for each youth

related to YOUCAN’s Verto Project

 Post-secondary education or 3 years related experience accepted$ F) w5 H5 ~1 Q" x8 g7 w
 A minimum of three years relevant experience is required.
