FUNCTIONS:

W) J: U0 {" I, {# f- OAs the Corporate Financial Co-ordinator within the Corporate Accounting and Reporting office of the Finance Branch, you will lead the year-end reporting functions within the City as well as the operating fund corporate accounting, and guide the development of related policy, procedures, and strategies.  This includes:
' s1 L( H# m- W8 i" e' M3 |' ~: {  r! v' v3 U
·         Coordinating the completion of the annual consolidated financial statements, the Provincial municipal information return, and other financial reporting for audit.
$ K7 ?" }9 n& c0 H' z  u. Q" u; |9 _! H, Y  }. X
·         Providing advice within the organization and to related Boards and Authorities on options for resolution of financial and reporting issues.

" O: Q4 ]5 j7 O% m·         Research and coordination for implementation of new professional accounting and reporting requirements for municipalities.5 i5 t- g  q2 A1 _4 z* j/ Q* t

  P* Y1 V2 Z* M·         Leading the development of related policy and procedures, and internal training where required.

  d" o% ]3 g2 {+ u·         Administration of the financial accounting module of the financial information system.

+ s  v# _: y9 P$ ^: Q! l·         Managing a group of professional and administrative staff, in completing ongoing corporate accounting functions.

7 m! r* k7 D; n4 V7 X·         Performing the regular and customary managerial functions including decisions respecting staff hire/promotion, work assignment, performance appraisal, discipline, and leave/overtime authorization.8 M1 B; ~8 f( |2 g# P

JOB REQUIREMENTS:/ z! K' P$ V+ }0 M* T+ U# v

·         University Degree majoring in accounting or finance, and a Professional Accounting Designation.0 k! N& W2 T9 x" A/ u: \* G  f

; U/ `& C  O) K; O6 z5 a·         A minimum of eight (8) years of progressive experience in the financial accounting and reporting field.

) x( s2 l1 U2 a& K  m; Y·         Experience with complex computerized financial systems. Familiarity with SAP would be advantageous.) Y/ B9 b) Z; r8 ?

·         Experience in preparing complex, consolidated financial statements for audit.

  C! m4 S( L7 j% s·         A thorough knowledge of municipal accounting and reporting practices and standards.

: T) P$ S# H& s·         An understanding of the Municipal Government Act (MGA) and of commodity tax in a municipal environment would be of benefit.1 M9 `( q2 n( e
